Notice!
This preset is in early development. It is largely untested, and is incomplete.
If you find anything wrong with this preset, constructive criticism, suggestions, and advice are welcome, and encouraged.

Updating!
If you are updating from v0.1.x, please completely reinstall ReShade before updating to v0.2. v0.1 and v0.1.1 both contained a dxgi.ini file, which is the probably source of installation issues for some users. Do not simply delete the dxgi.ini file from your game folder. ReShade will not recreate it, and you must reinstall ReShade to rebuild this file. This step is unnecessary if you are not updating from a previous version.

Updating from Version 0.2b does not require this step.

Moving Forward:
Moving forward from version 0.3b, my feelings are... I want to play Skyrim now. I am quite pleased with the preset I've created, and, while I'm certain I'll continue to make tweaks as I go on, perhaps even indefinitely. However, I will likely not be supporting this mod like I have been these past few days. Maybe if this preset picks up momentum, and becomes more popular, that may change, but for now, I just want to enjoy the work I've put into it.

I was uncertain as to when I should pull this out of beta, but I've decided now, that version 1.0 will be out shortly after I've finished my first play through in Special Edition. I was generally unenthused with this game at first, even though the original Skyrim was my most played game of all time, and I think it's because there was something lost moving to it. That something was those "Wow..." moments. Those times when you just look off into the sunset from the bridge just outside of Riverwood that take your breath away. I know it sounds absurd to be talking about a video game like this, but that was my experience with Skyrim from the very beginning. Before ReShade, before ENB, before I even played on PC, Skyrim gave me those moments, and that was missing in Special Edition. Making this preset, tweaking all these values on my own for once, and making something that truly appeals to my sense of aesthetic, it reignited that beauty that was lost in SE.

I'm going to play Skyrim now. I'll be back eventually, but for now, I'm going to enjoy myself. Thank you.

Introduction:
This mod essentially came to be because I wanted to use the Dolomite Weathers (NVLA II) mod, but there were no ReShades or ENBs available for it at the time. Thus, this mod was born. I downloaded the vanilla ReShade package, and got to tweaking. I still have much work ahead of me, though, so bear with some of the inevitable flaws.

Performance:
This is not a performance preset. That doesn't mean that you won't be able to run it well, but it does mean that if you have a medium to low-end computer, you will take a performance hit. My personal computer has a Core i5-2380P (basically a 2400 without the iGPU), an EVGA GTX 970 SSC, 8GB of system memory, and I run Skyrim from its own SSD (A Crucial 128GB MX100). With the GPU (only OCable part in my rig) at stock speeds, I get roughly a 10 fps drop in relatively low-demand areas (Whiterun) when using this preset, but a solid 60 indoors. Performance is not the aim of this preset, for many years ago, I accepted that if I want Skyrim to look beautiful, I'm just going to have to live with 45 fps. If you're more concerned with performance, and you know what you're doing, feel free to tweak my preset yourself.

Features:

  • A palette that is, paradoxically, both warm and cool
  • Bloom out the wazoo!
  • Sharpening, guaranteed to wipe that TAA-brand grease off of your screen
  • HDR
  • Swanky DoF
  • And much more

Installation:
I refuse to package this mod with the ReShade binaries or shaders. I'm aware that most other ReShade preset authors do this for convenience sake, but the fine developers of ReShade ask not to redistribute their hard work, which I am glad to respect. What this means for you, is a few extra steps.

  • Make sure your Skyrim folder is clean of ReShade, ENB, or similar files. ENB and ReShade Manager is a wonderful that does this for you.
  • Download and run the ReShade installer; point the application to your Skyrim folder by selecting SkyrimSE, click on Direct3D 10+, allow the installer to download the stock ReShade files, and click "Okay"; viola, ReShade installed.
  • Download the latest ENB binaries and install them; open the .zip file, and drag its contents to your Skyrim folder (where SkyrimSE.exe is located).
  • Download my preset manually, and extract the files to your Skyrim folder (again, where SkyrimSE.exe is located), and let it overwrite any files of the same name.
  • Launch Skyrim as you normally do. Once it has loaded hold Shift and press F2 to open the ReShade overlay. Follow the tutorial. Select "Kam's Preset" in the dropdown box at the top of the home tab.

Requirements:
None of these are technically required, but this preset was designed with them in mind.

Compatibility:
Compatible:
Anything that doesn't mess with the lighting or weathers (textures, meshes, scripts, etc.)

Incompatible:
Any other lighting or weather mods (RLO, ELE, CoT, True Storms, Vivid Weathers, etc.)
Any other ENB or ReShade presets

Recommended Mods:

To-do List:
  • Figure out why ReShade isn't showing me fine-tuning options
  • See if there's any way that I can change the general brightness of the game depending on time of day (this probably won't happen until Boris can figure out how to get SkyrimSE and Fallout 4 to play nicely with ENB)
  • Add some swanky DoF effects
  • Try to make the reflections less intense while preserving the overall look it gives the game
  • Try to better tackle the issue of aliasing. I would prefer to avoid SMAA and FXAA, and that just might be possible, as I suspect Luma Sharpening to be the culprit of so much shimmering, but I fear that I may have to result to SMAA or FXAA, both of which have their issues
  • Make the bloom less horizontally stretched. I'm not a fan of windows being strung together by a beam of light
This was an issue with Skyrim, not ENB or ReShade.
  • Figure out why altering the "Dawn", "Sunset", "Dusk", and "Night" parameters added by DNI do nothing
  • Play Skyrim

Thank you:
