This mod is the release of a mod developed by me initially for the Legendary Edition, now available here also for the Special Edition and Anniversary Edition versions of Skyrim. The .esp is converted to Form 44 format, and all the .NIFs (meshes) and .DDSs (textures) are optimized in the correct ways to run in both SE and AE, requiring absolutely no further work on your part.
When possible, my releases to SE and AE are flagged as .ESLs, which means they don't take up an .ESP slot in the users load order. However, this is not always possible. Below, you can check the three possible scenarios and check which scenario applies to this specific release. Since the other two will be crossed out, and the correct one will be marked in yellow:
The mod is flagged as .ESL, so it won't take up space in your load order, and yet it will be read and executed perfectly by your game;
The mod is not flagged as .ESL, just like a normal .ESP, because it has FaceGen data on it, so if it was flagged, whoever is not using the last official updates for SE or AE, including most pirated Skyrim users, will have the NPCs added by this mod having the gray face bug. However, if you have the latest update installed, you can flag this mod as an .ESL using SSEEdit, at your own risk, but generally with no problems;
The mod is not flagged as .ESL, just like a normal .ESP, as it requires the use of .SEQ files. In all the tests I did, even regenerating the .SEQ files after flagging the .ESPs as .ESLs, the dialogues stopped working. So, to maintain the integrity of dialogues and even quests added by my mods with .SEQ files, you should not attempt to flag this file under any circumstances, and you should use it in the exact way I made it available for download.
One last comment: there is a common misconception that all LE meshes need to go through NifOptimizer in order to be used in SE or AE, with the most varied arguments defending this, and a few absurdities about what would happen if it wasn't done. This is just another one of the myths that this community believes without any basis, and that it spreads only because it saw many people repeating the same thing. DO NOT OPTIMIZE meshes, neither mine nor any from other mod's. Most meshes are ready to run directly from LE to SE. NifOptimizer should only be used in cases where they DO NOT WORK DIRECTLY WITHOUT BEING OPTIMIZED. Using NifOptimizer indiscriminately without need, and without knowing how to do it correctly, leads to terrible consequences, being able to damage UV's, Normal Maps, the very 3d structure of the models, and much more, in short, causing more problems than the possible problems you could have with 1 in every 100 meshes needing to be optimized, something you would later do manually and individually when proven necessary. JUST DON'T PASS MESHES THROUGH THE NIF OPTIMIZER EXCEPT IF THEY JUST DON'T WORK IN THE SPECIAL EDITION OR ANNIVERSARY EDITION AFTER YOU TESTED THEM YOURSELF FIRST. It's a fact that yes NifOptimizer can solve problems in problematic Nifs, but in this case, and if these Nifs are mine, just contact me and I'll solve the problem for you. If you have really in-depth knowledge of how to correct any negative consequences of using the program on the problematic mesh, that's ok, do it, but if not, just contact me and I'll solve it, since the nif having the problem would be caused by a little oversight of mine while I was producing it, so would be my responsability to fix the problem as well.Unfortunately, because the use of NifOptimizer was recommended in many tutorials as a possible step, a lot of people took it as mandatory, and many fools started to use it as gospel and to convince others, but remember, it's not because it's on the internet that is real. There is absolutely NO such thing as an "old nif format". NiTriShape works perfectly in SE and AE, it is NOT necessary in any way to convert the .nifs to BSTriShape format for them to run smoothly in game, and this messy conversion can even lead you to severe ingame problems. Unfortunately, 3 or 4 paranoids managed to create a legion of players who live in constant panic of corrupting their games, and in an attempt to avoid it, they end up diving into a corruption many times greater, created by themselves, unnecessarily.But don't just take my word for it based on my years of experience and dedication to this activity, listen to Arcane University's own words about it, possibly the best center of studies on modding for The Elder Scrolls available on the internet: (image extracted from the link: https://wiki.beyondskyrim.org/wiki/Arcane_University:NIF_Data_Format)
Play more, have more fun, and let the authors be responsible for the technical condition and functionality of the mods they release. And if you don't trust them enough to use mods without trying to fix what often doesn't need to be fixed, just stop using those mods. Take care, and if you have any doubts, look for me on my Discord server, Mihail
hummingbirds make a weird sound when flying. in game, they reproduce exactly the same sound they make on real life. i saw people saying the sound is weird (people complain too much about everything, to be honest, specially free stuff), but no, is just them not being used to hummingbirds. i have them here all day on my backyard, and is how they sound like. check video bellow, to see how their wing flaps sound like:
The sound comes from the way they flap their wings! They actually flap them front to back, instead of up and down! And much, MUCH faster than other birds!
I'm walking around Solitude and hear a strange sound, very much like snoring, I turned around to look, I thought it was my dog snoring - it turned out that it is not. Not understanding the source of the sound, I went on. A couple days later I found out it was your hummingbird.
I forgot I installed this mod and kept hearing that hummmm sound over and over. Was driving me crazy, till I saw one fly by. Still had to uninstall. Don't like the constant sound.
You have no idea how happy I am to see this! You are a legend, thank you! I used to have a forest home years ago and love seeing humming birds and listening to the birds sing in the morning, was pretty peaceful.
you should disable collisions with the player for this bird because having it randomly run into you and push you around is almost scary.. and just most birds have no collisions anyway. (VR user)
Mihail this looks great and I would really like to add hummingbirds to my (VR) mod stack which already contains a lot of other Mihail creatures! but when I did... the game broke, could not get past loading save file. remove mod and all is well again.
@Tazling - You could try the new mod which adds esl support to VR (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/106712). But please ask some experienced vr user for help as I do not play vr myself and only heard about this mod from a friend, good luck .
brand new sksevr esl enabler for VR. Should work just fine. I'm gonna try it. It will probably work. I have also seen that before the esl plugin, most esl would work. It would just eat up a mod spot with the 255 limit. No such limit anymore, so Hummingbirbs for all!!!
Edit. It definitely works. I have only seen one that hangs around the Warmaiden. I accidentally hit it with a thrown bottle of wine and then the guards attacked it and it flew away. Very immersive. I wish I knew where to find more than that one sporadic bird.
I saw that some other people were also experiencing a problem I was, where they were detected as being hostile, and created a patch here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/106494.
It also optionally allows for a lower humming volume.
I know it's never very comfortable for artists to have their visions impinged upon, and I admire the open permissions you keep on your mods. Ultimately I hope more people will enjoy your marvelous creations. :)
Love this mod but I'd really like a option to lower their humming sound. It's really loud in my headset and it's like I have a helicopter descending upon me. I've encountered plenty of humming birds irl and they've never sounded as loud as I'm hearing them.
the sound is perfectly fine and according to a close encounter with a hummingbird, specially a very close one, like i have all the time on my backyard. of course your headset may have some characteristics that may make it louder than what it is to most of us, in this case just reduce the volume using audacity or similar software.
I'm not saying the sound is wrong but the decibel level seems too high. They are very loud from a considerable distance for me and they are the only thing I've encountered with that issue. If you don't want to mess with it I understand, it is your mod and yours to make however you want. What I would like to ask though is how might I change it for myself?
you can easely reduce the volume using Audacity as i refered before, friend. but i am sure you can even do it with online softwares. just pick the sound on sound folder, and reduce it, then replace the original one with your reduced version.
I like just the chirping so I removed the buzzing sound pretty much entirely : https://sndup.net/dtkn/ no clue if that site is any good it's just what I found to share audio files
awesome mod, any chances of removing collision in an optional patch? I don't mind being unable to kill them and loot them, but them pushing me out of the way isn't the most immersive thing lol
If you've ever been dive bombed by a hummingbird in real life, you'll know it's pretty immersive....just call it your character getting the heck out of the way of a tiny fearless attack helicopter. XD
Love these little buggers! So great to see ruby-throats in game AND at my feeders right outside my window!
Question: is there a way to adjust them to be non-hostile? I've seen town guards go rushing after them (with bows & swords, no less) & would prefer them to be treated more like chickens instead of an enemy creature that provokes the guards (as funny as that is to watch). I've seen how aggressive ruby-throats can be in real life, but I also don't see anyone going after them with a longsword!
Perhaps. I'll review my mods. The Detect Life spell causes the hummers to show up as Red (ie aggressive) rather than Blue (passive), but rabbits & foxes show up as Red as well. *shrug* Maybe I just need a "passive wildlife" mod? :)
Did you ever figure out what was causing the conflict? I'm having the same issue, despite double-checking in xEdit that the hummingbirds are, in fact, neutral.
UPDATE: I think the suspect for me was Animal Tweaks, which modifies Spriggan behavior. Thanks for the lead! That mod caused other issues anyway, so I'm happy this made me dig a bit into my load order.
If you grew up anywhere with hummingbirds, this mod is a necessity. Their wing sounds and angry little chirps instantly bring a smile whenever one zips past. I'd like to figure out how to turn collision off on them just cuz they're the same size as the dragonflies and have a tendency to run into you, but regardless they're a permanent fixture in my load order now.
i didnt grew up with them, since we have none in europe, but i moved to south america 14 years ago, and here i got in love with them, amazing critters.

Has anyone else had this issue with SkyrimVR?
Could it be because the mod is flagged ESL?
is it possible to get a non-esl version of Hummingbirds?
