Sadly, no Riften Dock Overhaul patch is available, definitely need Creation Kit work. My mod is by nature, incompatible with any mods that touch the same area. I don't see any workaround to fix these incompatibilities out the box for the moment.
Mod is loaded last and still not taking affect in game for some reason. Just putting out there, still trying to figure out why.
Edit: Deleted realistic boat bob changes to the same worldspace area and now the mod works. To patch you, can just copy the world changes from RBB and make a new esp and disable everything it place in that area. Then this mods changes will take effect, I am lazy but if MaarMalur does not make a patch. I can upload one later.
Edit 2: Also notice they only pop in to existance when walked close to, found a fix for that. Just flag the boat and scafold as visible in distant.
Yes, this mod is not compatible with RBB as stated in my description. I'm also very lazy and I don't use RBB, if you want make a patch, you are free to upload it in a separate page.
My mod like any other mods changing landscape need Lod regeneration thanks to Dyndolod.
I already ran dyndolod, but the scafold and boat was not visible in game from the stables. Adding a "visible from distant" flag to the static object in worldspace record, fixed it and now it is visible from a distance. (At least that is how it is on my setup)
Ok, on my side, I reran my Dyndolod (3.0) and tested with and without "visible when distant" flag, but the scaffold and the ships from the stables are clearly visible in any case with "visible when distant" checked or not. This could be an issue on your setup.
It's not a shallow water problem, the main problems are : big ships cannot go on the narrow Treva River and cannot go under most bridges. Secondly, there is an enormous height difference between the Rift region and the White River bassin (waterfalls). Only trading ships between Ivarsead, Heartwood Mill and The Goldenglow Estate is possible from Riften. Another reason is mostly because Riften is known for its fishery and Lake Honrich is a very good spot for fishing, so I believe they don't need such big ships.
Basically Skyrim in game is 15 square miles, skyrim in lore is 105,000 square miles. Skyrim is roughly the same size as New Zealand and nearly everything in game goes to that scale. The lakes, waterfalls, and cities for example. There'd be a lot more caves, bandit camps, towns, villages, dolmen, crypts, and dragon burial sites in the game if they went to scale.
In game the 7000 steps is less than 200 steps, you can swim across the lakes, and run across skyrim in less than an hour. If Skyrim was a 1:1 scale, you wouldn't be able to do any of that in a reasonable amount of time. It would take two days of IRL time to probably scale the throat of the world if you scaled it without stopping. You would take about two weeks to run across all of skyrim. To swim across the two largest lakes it'd take around 12 hours. Carriages would get a LOT more use because I doubt anyone would want to torture themselves into walking to every new location.
Lore wise you're totally right, but the player doesn't evolve in the lore version of Skyrim but in the game version of this region. Close environment should be at least believable for the player. From Riften you can see the entire Lake Honrich. I think my point is valid from this perspective.
The ship you removed contains 6 idle/furniture markers for AI packages to make use of. Without those, there is a lot less to do for NPC's on the Riften Dock. Any chance you can add some extra idle/furniture markers as a replacement?
p.s. I only checked Riftne but I assume this could also be a 'problem' for the other ships you replaced.
Hey Poepkat ! Yes, only Riften ship removed had idles, the only AI package linked to my edits is the NPC Valindor, I moved some idles on the dock and created new one (siting on the edge of the dock for example). Check the screenshots I made. Obviously, without the ship, I cannot keep every original idles, but kept the most importants for Valindor especially. I tested in game multiple times my mod before release and Valindor stay pretty busy despite my modifications. I let you check in CK if you want make suggestions, I'm open !
I was using Better Docks - Riften, which adds 4 NPC Dock Workers to the Riften Docks. They were running out of things to do/idle. Since I am very lazy and detest patching in the Creation Kit there was only one logical thing I could do: remove Better Docks and install your mod, since it is obviously superior ;)
As already said - perfectly sensible. I was motivated to make a little add on for me and replace your replacers with a model found in Ships and boats of tamriel, and thanks to your work have peace now.
I love your environmental / locations mods, MaarMalur - I use every single one of them and this is yet another to add to the LO! Might even drop Riften Docks Overhaul (or make a patch, depending on how I feel).
Yes, makes perfect sense! Those big ships can never fit under the bridges so they are just stuck in one place and it always bothered me. Beth should have made the map so the lake goes to the sea straight with no waterfalls but then again Beth should've done a lot of things different. Thanks for this! Endorsed!
My thoughts exactly! This has been ignored too long! The only thing worse are mods that add boats to places where they're completely useless (I'm looking at you, Riverwood! Where are they going to sail?! It's a river 8m wide, easily fordable by the conveniently located bridge, and closed off by waterfalls on both sides within short walking distance!! Where?!?).
Even in small streams boats/kayaks are very useful for fishing. Also look up Thames Sailing Barges. These sailing boats also ventured into the canal system of England.
Based on the clear influence of Norse Culture in the game. All the boats are of a long ship design. In addition to being handy in the open seas they were designed specifically for the fjords and portage over land. IE to get around rapids and waterfalls.
One man's immersion... Let's agree to disagree. Thankfully Skyrim modding allows me to avoid senseless boats in places they don't belong, and users like you to cram every available inch of open water chock full of wooden vessels. :)

Weren't scandinavian longships famous precisely for their ability to navigate in shallow waters?
I'm not exactly a historian but I recall that being the case, something about having a very broad bow or whatever its called.

I was also wondering how these big ships end up into a.. lake, without an open to the ocean.
Thank you.
As requested, If you want to try out Consistent Lakes Ships AddOn

Finally the map of Skyrim was not made to scale.
