This is something that happens to me regularly when transferring a large number of items to/from my inventory - but I don't have this DLC installed and I don't have any active quests running - I try to avoid them and just do open-world exploration. Could this mod be adapted to stop this happening generally in Skyrim - or would it require a mod for every possible quest that could be causing it? If not is there anyway to find out what mod or quest is causing it to happen?
It requires a fix for every quest that has this problem individually, there is no way to just generalize it. This however is the only quest of Bethesdas official content that I'm aware has this problem, so if you encounter it it's probably due to a mod, like TUDM for example, the version that scales stamina cost with carry weight is affected by this afaik, even if you disable this option in the MCM. Also what you consider an active quest and what the game considers one are two vastly different things. Most quests load up on character creation, like the one from this DLC, and are simply hidden from the journal until you start them, but their scripts are already running. If you get a stack dump it's usually full of entries from the script that caused it.
Thanks I will have a look - I can't see any stack dumps but maybe I am looking in the wrong place? Where would they be and what would they be called if generated? :)
As mentioned, it looks like v6.8 of the Unofficial Creation Club patch started including the fix for this issue.
"Nchuanthumz: On startup, the quest uses an OnItemAdded event on the player inventory without a filter. This causes events such as going to jail or entering the Thalmor Embassy to produce a huge amount of Papyrus calls which can cause a stack dump. Huge thanks to VersuchDrei for allowing me to incorporate this fix from the Nchuanthumz Papyrus Load Fix (uploaded under Skitskurr)"
Thanks for this, I am thinking maybe this is a "world saver" fix that can resolve the problem of "Save File Corruption" that when I entry and exit several interior cells or open the sack of my horse ... since I really have a huge mod loading list ...
