NEVER use this mod. It can easily break the Unbound quest (MQ101). Like the markfordelete command, it permanently damages the save file in which it is used. In this case, Unbound cannot complete no matter what command is used (setstage etc), Hadvar/Ralof will not talk, and a functional version of Ulfric does not exist and does not open dialog when recreated.
You must have something conflicting in your mod order. Unbound completes just fine. So far, if you've read any posts, this only conflicts with a mod called Footprints thus far. Any mod that starts or is triggered to start by/after "Unbound" completing, might be an issue. You can try disabling those mods and re-enabling them after you've exited the cave and saved the game.
I've used this mod for years and haven't had issues with Unbound or anything related quest wise thereafter.
OK in that case I will skip this mod. I have 1,200 mods and have always used the same "camping in the woods" story in LAL, so was looking for something simple to replace LAL. Looks like this might not be reliable
I mean... with all the mods I've had/tried/gone through/etc; I haven't had any issue with this mod. Ever.
I don't use Footprints, which is a mod that triggers to start after completing Unbound - which is said to have issues from others. So, unless you have another mod that has that same trigger, you're not going to have issues. I don't know of any other mod that triggers in that way. Footprint "might be" the only one.
All you can do is "just try it". There are other popular mods such as Alternate Start, but you'll still have to go through a menu and choose how to start your game, sleep in the bed (if you didn't choose to escape the jail), get ported to what your choice was, then begin your game.
I prefer to just make my character and go. This mod allows me to do that.
If you want the more "immersive" starting point, go with Alternate Start or Random Alternate Start Reborn.
I'm using v1.6+ SE/AE (free not bought). 100 mods, no issues. Technically I have more mods, but I merge together mods such as all of JK's overhauls, so there's only one .esp file for all of his mods. Etc, etc...
Sorry to necro a one-year-old thread. I've used this mod since I've started playing Skyrim in 2017. This mod has been a staple feature on my modlist, and I have never had a problem with it in all my playthroughs, until the latest one.
Upon exiting from Helgen cave, Hadvar had said nothing to me, (you know comments about "his uncle in Riverwood, his childhood fear of the Bleak Falls Barrow, the comments about the Guardian Stones, etc"). He said none of them to me. He just ran, and upon arrival at Riverwood, he stayed at the entrance of the village and the scene between him and Alvor never took place. The same goes with Radolf and Hod.
Later, I discovered that General Tullius too is bugged and he got stuck in Helgen and did not go back to Solitude. These glitches might have happened to @YouShittinMe in his first attempt of using this mod, hence the comment made.
It is actually a load order problem. Place this esp low in the order, and the bug is gone.
YouShittinMe is correct. This mod doesn't start the Unbound Quest properly after creating your character. There is no Unbound quest journal entry added after creating your character, and you don't get an Unbound completed quest notification and sound when you exit the cave. That is a major flaw in this mod. All alternative start mods all do one thing, and that is start and end the Unbound Quest. Dime's doesn't do that. Thankfully you have an alternative. If you want something very similar to this mod, I suggest using Optional Quick Start instead. It's nearly identical to this mod. It's not a perfect mod either, but it does do something that Dim's mod doesn't' do, and that is properly starts up the Unbound quest right after creating your character.
Oh, so that is the problem. I have been using this without any problem, until some time ago, when Hadvar/Raloff would go back into the cave where we exit from Helgen in the early part of the game.
Didn't know what the problem is. Thanks for the info. Yes, it still works...sometimes. Most of the time, if it does not, I would simply move the plugin load order around and restart the game. It usually works after less than 3 tries.
I've been using your mod for a while now and is very helpful, I like the little detail you put in place where we get to see Ralof or Hadvar escaping the tunnel at the exit in Helgen. Other quick start mods for XB don't do it, and I get issues with other mods where items from mods that suppose to download during the cart opening scene never get downloaded - for those reasons your mod is better as I never had these issues.
There is one minor problem that occurs for me. I now tested it with various other mods, basically, if I use any skin or npc replacers mods and this mod together, Ulfric and the vampire court mage in Solitude, Sybille, get pixlated faces. Every time, obviously, I find that out later in the game once I get to them, and each time disabling this mod fixes it. I tried that with the tempered skins, and vitruvia for males, with Dx's males, and Pandorables, and Bejiin: Skins and npc replacers - so 6 mods across 3 playthroughs. It makes me think it's something small - I'm no genius but I kinda understand why Ulfric would be affected, but why Sybille? Is she inthe Helgen opening scene too? No idea, I was hoping it could be a quick fix as I really like this mod? On XB we are a bit OCD as we have been made believe that disabling mods mid-game is the greatest sin one can do, as the whole thing reloads and the ghost space occurs. I recently noticed that deleting mods even before starting a new game leads to a ghost space, we have to get it right the first time round, or start the process of cleaning the reserve space and hard reset from scratch, and some of us have 150 mods, and the bloody bethenet doesn't download them all, I usually have to do about 60 manually every time. So yes, aiming for perfection :-)
Try again and learn how to properly install mods. If you need help, you should try to learn how to be respectful towards authors that give you this s#*! for free. No one's gonna be willing to help you out with that attitude.
Hate to necro this but this is a common thing with alternate or quickstart mods if they aren't at or near the end of the load order. If you are experiencing the same issue move it down as this always happens if I forget to do it.
i dont know exactly the problem but as soon as i add this in my load order and start a new game it makes the game ctd and then once i disable the mod it starts working again
Wanted to stop by and say that this mod is fantastic for testing purposes! I play in VR and it's so important to get stuff right (well for all of us really!) Did notice that it doesn't remove the "handcuffs" from the Stormcloaks who are captured in the original wagon ride scene but no big deal to me. Tip to others using this for testing: if your game crashes during this, there is something wrong with your files. That has been my experience, anyway. Don't ask author to fix cause in my experience, it's been on my side 100%! Sseddit is your friend, too! If I can figure out the basics, anyone can! Thank you for such a useful and straightforward mod! Endorsed!
This mod is essential for testing mods and otherwise getting past all of the unnecessary stuff in the beginning of the game. I can be inside my player home, from a new start in under a minute. Has always worked for me. Thank You. I'm Wondering how I can use this mod to equip my player in the way that I want and be able to change it around in creation kit. I tried opening your mod directly and made changes to the Player Actor. I don't think that was correct because it only changed the weapon she had. How can I go about doing this?

Install this BEFORE everything else. Still works...sometimes
