I love mods like this!  I have been Gandolfing my magic butt all over Skyrim just looking or a cave to look into.  Can't wait for Blackreach or the Soul Cairn.  I was very surprised that I exploded in a mine and a bunch of orcs kicked my butt.  But I guess it can be used as a heat source for Frostfall, so that's good.

If I start a new game with this mod enabled, I get stuck during the Under Saarthal quest. When I take the amulet and put it on, I can't use spells to blast the door down, so I'm just locked in the room.

I've reproduced it several times from a new game. If I disable this mod and start a new game then the door functions as it's supposed to.

Nothing is overwriting this mod's files and no plugins are overriding any records from it.

Hi! Sorry for a late response.

Changing quest rewards involves changing the quest's overall Papyrus script. While I'm 95% sure I didn't touch the quest stage you're talking about, Papyrus is extremely touchy.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into this and test in-game, and upload a fixed file once I've got it.

Does this mod edit the player record? I use the mod that starts the game as a female character, editing the player record. And with Proper Staff of Magelight enabled, after loading the save my character's body switched from female to male. Is it just some dirty edit that needs to be removed, or is there something that has to be done to a player's record in order for this magelight staff to work?

Hi! Sorry for a late response.

This mod touches on default player perk records in order to add a unique TorchBash perk that won't set enemies on fire only when using the magelight staff. If that mod changes the default player parameters, it probably also touches default player perks.

Give me a few and I'll upload a new version of the mod that gets rid of the TorchBash perk. It was essentially just my first foray into Papyrus scripting and has no real bearing on the mod anyway.

Such a cool idea! Can't wait to try this. Just to clarify regarding IED, do you mean the unequipped staff *will* shed light all the time, or won't?

The staff will only shed light when equipped. However, the Magelight graphic will still be present on the staff when unequipped, without shedding light - I think it's unimmersive but I'm a stickler when it comes to these things =P

You could make an ENB-Particle-Light version of the staff that would still emit light for ENB-users with ComplexParticleLights enabled. It's only small radius but would still give some independent light to your character, when carrying it on the back.

The first iteration of my .nif had this but the node attached to the glow map got all sorts of messed up and ended up crashing the game whenever the model was called. Carriable light sources seem to be fairly obtuse to work with, unfortunately.

Now that the mod is working, however, I'd like to give it another try.

As for the radius of light, if I managed to get particle lights working for this, it would be a very small radius of light. The idea isn't to have a constant light source at the end of a stick - It's more to have a toggleable light for mage characters. If you're sneaking and you have the staff attached to your back, you don't want to be announcing your presence with a spotlight =P

Okay, that's good to know thanks. My personal preference would be for the staff not to shed light when unequipped, because if it's on your back you'd be casting a big shadow. I believe there's a way to make IED use a different mesh so I'll look at making one with the magelight graphic disabled.

Hmm! I didn't know that about IED.

There's a .nif file in my bsa called magelightstaffalt.nif. it shares the same position as magelightstaff.nif but doesn't have the Magelight ball.

I'll see if I can get that working.

Ha, you were absolutely right! https://i.imgur.com/Dhxsre9.mp4 It hangs a little bit far away from the back and I can't seem to get the swapped model to transform position. However, I probably wouldn't include that in a preset in order to avoid conflicts with other body types anyway.

I'm going to upload a new version of this mod with an edited "off" staff and a custom IED preset.

Just FYI I think you uploaded the same file twice. The IED preset file is the same as the main file.

But does it affect regular magelight staffs from leveled lists? Doesn't seem like it.
College Entry replaces the one given by Aren with the Turn Lesser Undead staff, which is far more fitting than the original.
Still, I think the idea of the Gandalf Staff is neat. I'll replace it.

It doesn't change any leveled lists, no. If I were to do something like that I would probably distribute it alongside regular magelight staves - It would be really cool to see necromancer faction NPCs wandering around with this at night!

As it is, this is my second ever mod, third if you include a small armor mesh edit, and my first scripted mod. I'm going with ideas that I can expand upon later on, and I think you just gave me a great direction to go in for this one =)
