Could you make your compass not to show up in game menus (like inventory, barter, etc), please? Currently it can obscure some game menu elements, making some text in it to be difficult to read.
I honestly have no idea how this is possible but compass is completely opposite. When my character is facing north if I turn right that should turn the compass needle towards the east but it turns to the west. I have all required mods installed but I am still very confused.
Any chance for a patch with Navigation Restriction? I'd love to make this compass tied to the compass item from that mod (just having it in inventory). Right now I'm settling for manually disabling the Compass widget if I don't have a compass and enabling it if I get one
I always play without floating markers etc, and this is infinitely nicer than the vanilla compass. Just wondering how I can integrate it with the "Helps to have..." mods but yay, this is going straight ino my must-install list.
Glad you're liking the mod! For more immersion, you can set the Compass Toggle Equip Item in the MCM. Basically, when you equip the item, the compass widget is set to visible. When you unequip the item, the compass is hidden. I had my other mod Craftable Compass in mind when I added that feature. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18185/
I'd forgotten about Craftable Compass. Used to have it installed then somewhere along the way I managed to forget about it. Probably before everything got ESL'd and I was always running out of plug in slots.
Great stuff anyway : ) I'll install it in this build and then I can lose the vanilla compass entirely.
I see, the Wheeler mod uses .svg but I have no idea how it's implemented. Thanks for looking though :) I did learn the basics just for saving my vectors as textures in paint.net. One thing, I don't know if it is a bug but when starting a new game the vanilla compass shows up even if the config files was set to maximum transparency.
Hey I checked out the Wheeler mod, and that uses an skse plugin to load the ui elements. This mod uses a flash .swf files and Skyui to load widgets. As far as I know it's not possible to load .svg files with flash actionscript 2.0 which is what Skyrim uses. Oh and thanks for the info, I just uploaded a new version that sets the vanilla compass transparency automatically when loading this mod on a new save.
When I load into the game, two textboxes appear saying no bases found and no needles found. When I go into the MCM and navigate using the arrow keys, the mcm goes blank and the compass disappears. Any ideas for a solution?
Thank you for your swift response!! I do have both Papyrus Util and Address Library installed and updated to their latest versions. My guess would be Dylbills Papyrus Functions, which relies on ConsoleUtilSSE (does it rely on it?). ConsoleUtilSSE wasn't updated for the latest game version, instead there is new mod ConsoleUtilSSE NG. The main problem is I don't see the options of the base, needle and overlay in MCM.
Hmmm, are you using a mod manager? You may want to try installing this mod manually if so. Papyrus Util reads the image files in folders for this mod and I'm not sure how that works if using a mod manager to inject mods. Other than that, I'm not sure what it could be.
I am using Vortex. I can see that the images are in the Data folder. The two textboxes that used to appear at the start of the game went away, I really don't know why. The only problem right now is that I can't set the base/needle/overlay. Whenever I go into MCM and click "Set base", there's a textbox saying I should use left or right arrows to choose the base. I click OK and then there's blank MCM. I can't see what I'm choosing from.
EDIT: can you please describe what should be the normal behavior when I click OK after seeing this textbox: OID_SetCompassBaseSelectMsg = [Press the Right or Left keys to change the base. Press Enter or the Activate key to re-enter the MCM.] Should I exit MCM like in the positioning mode, and click left and right arrows to change the appearance, or should I see the options right there in the MCM?
Right now, I solved the problem this way: I renamed the base, needle and overlay I like to the default filenames your script looks at, and then "deleted" all the other options. That way, I don't have to set them, because there are no other options. It's a temp fix, but it works
EDIT: aaaand it randomly decides that it doesn't want to work. As mentioned in the posts of SuperSailorGloom and DamnablePortents in this post section, it doesn't respond to ticking the "Show Compass Widget" checkbox (it just doesn't respond), or toggling the hotkey.
I'm gonna be tracking this mod and I really hope it will get fixed, or someone finds what mod we all have that breaks it for us.
No, I didn't. Sometimes when I load a game, the compass is there, and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it reappears after I die, sometimes it doesn't. I honestly have no idea why it is like that or how to fix it. I think of it as a Schrödinger's compass for now. I absolutely love how it looks, so I don't uninstall it.
Go to the MCM and click Position Compass. Then close the MCM menu and press Caps Lock and make sure only the base, overlay, or needle is checked, then click Exit. Then hold the B key and use left and right arrow keys to select either the base, overlay, or needle appearance. Once you find the appearance you want press Enter to save the settings. Then press Caps Lock again and repeat the procedure for the two other options. This method works for me.
However, I am having the issue where if I make a game save when the compass is disabled and try to load that save, then the compass hotkey stops working and I have to go into the MCM menu for this mod to make it work again. If I make a save game with the compass visible, then it seems to load just fine and the hotkey works. I'd like to find a fix for this otherwise I have to remember to always enable the compass before saving and quitting the game to avoid this issue. As long as your last save was made with the compass visible, then the compass will be visible when you die and the game autoloads the last save.
Are console util and Papyrus extender required for this mod to function properly? I have Papyrus Util and Dylbills functions installed. Everything seems to work except for the hotkey bug I described below.
Ok I fixed the problem. Here's some technical info. The issue was with how skyui loads its widgets. Basically, if you save your game and the widget is not visible in flash, when you load the game you have to enter and exit the MCM menu for it to be able to be set to visible again. So, in the new update I made the widget always "visible" but to set to invisible it set's the alpha property instead.
Nice! I'm gonna test it out. This mod is a great compliment to Dear Diary and the Flat World Map Framework paper map - it means no more modern GPS system in medieval times. I'm not sure about how hard this would be on a technical level, but it would be cool if you either had to discover the compass in the world and equip it in the inventory before it could be enabled (kind of like the DayZ compass), or even have to find its parts and craft it.
Right on. In this mod, you can set the Compass Toggle Equip Item in the MCM. If this is set, when you equip the item, it shows the compass. When you unequip the item, it hides the compass. I made this option with my older mod Craftable Compass in mind. You can find it here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18185/
Right, I've seen that one, didn't realize you were the same author. Can confirm that the hotkey is working now. A minor thing, some of the overlay textures have the S backwards no matter which direction you're looking. Though I'm using some of the custom textures that others have created. Anyhow, thanks for the fix.

Edit: I solved this problem by let PapyrusUtil overwrite Campfire. Now everything works. Thanks @Eriahn

*edit - fixed by using Dylbills Papyrus Functions DbMiscFunctions 3.7
*edit 2 - It quit working for me again on a different save. Was about to give up, but now it works with:

This sounds like you don't have PapyrusUtil SE installed. That also requires Address Library for SKSE plugins.
