OVERVIEW
The goal of this mod is to give the Blades the faction questline and the headquarters that they deserve. The Blades were a beloved faction in Oblivion and it's sad to see how most people have hated their appearance in Skyrim due to lack of content or controversial quest decisions. With this mod, you'll be able to restore the Blades to a formidable force once again. My main priorities are lore friendliness and immersion. The mod will not transform Sky Haven into a grand impregnable fortress with 40ft. high walls or add a taxidermy dragon to every room in the temple, there are other mods that do that. The aim is to add features to the faction/temple that are within reason for an order of knights living in an isolated and dangerous part of Skyrim.

IMPLEMENTED FEATURES
1. Expanded Blades Recruitment
  • Current: 30 total
  • This may increase or reduce based on how crowded or empty Sky Haven gets. According to UESP, there are a total of 55 NPCs you can recruit from Skyrim with all DLC.
2. Blades Oath for every recruit
  • Delphine will perform the Blade's oath for every Knight Brother/Sister.
3. More Blades go dragon hunting
  • MCM to configure how many Blades you want to accompany you on the hunt. Default is 3.
  • For vanilla Skyrim, 3 Blades is plenty to fight a dragon, maybe too many if you're already a maxed out stealth archer. This is a feature for people who run dragon overhauls who need all the extra help they can get in a dragon fight.
4. Deploy field agents throughout the province
  • Send Knight Brothers and Sisters to spy in all 15 major and minor towns.
  • Field Agents will provide training based on the town they are deployed to.
  • Planned additions: More fleshed out daily schedules.
COMPATIBILITY
1. Ultimate Follower Overhaul - Compatible
  • Recruiting in succession:
  • Recruit 1st follower
  • Dismiss newly recruited follower
  • Dismiss the next follower in your party that you would like to recruit
  • Re-hire the follower that was just dismissed
  • Recruit follower that just filled the 1st follower slot
  • Repeat steps 1-5 until you recruit the desired amount of followers from your party or until your run out of recruitable followers
2. Amazing Follower Tweaks - Patch Required
  • Recruiting in succession:
  • Recruit 1st follower
  • Dismiss the next follower in your party that you would like to recruit
  • Re-hire the follower that was just dismissed
  • Recruit follower that just filled the 1st follower slot
  • Repeat steps 1-4 until you recruit the desired amount of followers from your party or until your run out of recruitable followers
3. Extensible Follower Framework - Patch Required
  • Recruiting in succession:
  • Recruit the last follower in your party
  • Dismiss newly recruited follower
  • Recruit the next last follower in your party
  • Dismiss the newly recruited follower
  • Repeat steps 1-4 until you recruit the desired amount of followers from your party or until your run out of recruitable followers
4. Nether's Follower Framework - Compatible
  • Recruiting in succession:
  • Unassign the follower from any new home that was assigned via NFF
  • Select "Send to Game Slot" in the NFF MCM
  • Recruit the Game Slot follower in your party
  • Select "Sort Follower Slots" in the NFF MCM (Recommended just to keep NFF from getting into a weird state)
  • Repeat steps 1-4 until you have recruited the desired amount of Blades from your follower pool
  • NOTE: If deploying field agents, make sure you dismiss the Blade as a follower for the field agent behavior to take effect. You can dismiss them before or after assigning them field duties, but you won't be able to assign them as a follower again until you relieve them of field duties.
5. Paarthurnax Quest Expansion - Patch Required

PLANNED FEATURES
1. Fight against the Thalmor
  • We got a good spy/anti-Thalmor quest when we infiltrated the Thalmor embassy, but it kind of hit a dead end. This feature aims to give us more of that.
  • I haven't thought about specific quests/conflicts yet, but the idea is to draw on the Blades quests from Morrowind and Oblivion.
  • Loose idea: Continue spying on the Thalmor, culminating in a Thalmor assault on Sky Haven or a Blades assault on a Thalmor HQ. Or both?
2. Sky Haven Temple Expansion
  • Workbench to create new additions to Sky Haven. Yes, you have to do some work to restore the temple to it's glory.
  • Player room
  • Barracks to accommodate additional Knight Brothers/SIsters
  • All crafting stations
  • Better study for Esbern
  • Grand Master's quarters for Delphine
  • Exterior additions, such as more training dummies for the additional blades, gardens, crops
  • Reclaiming Karthspire and Karthspire Camp
  • I haven't started any work on this, so ideas/suggestions are encouraged. The additions are intended to be lore friendly and not over the top, i.e. no dragon skeletons adorning every room or great fortresses at the top of the mountain.
3. Option to spare Paarthurnax
  • Yes, this is the most important feature that I know you'll all want.
  • I want to try to implement this without having to use silent dialogue, so if I need to splice some vanilla voice lines together, that's what I'll do. I also don't want it to just be as simple as shouting at Delphine and all of a sudden she backs down. I want it to be a well thought out discourse that leads you to convince her through facts and reason. Killing her also defeats the principle of a quest to spare someone's life, so I'd like to avoid that as well, but might consider adding it as an option. I might explore a way for the player to not reveal to Delphine who Paarthurnax is.

As with any mod author, please bear with me as I'm working on this in my free time. With the rewrite of the recruitment and dragon hunting quests done, work is moving along. My plan is to update the mod regularly with small feature additions. I'm currently working on this alone and have still yet to work out all the details, so ideas and features are subject to change. Check back regularly to see what I'm currently working on.

CURRENTLY WORKING ON
  • Radiant quests for the fight against the Thalmor.

BUGS TO BE AWARE OF
  • NEED A SAVE BEFORE STARTING VANILLA BLADES QUESTS:  Currently, I don't have a way of dealing with if you have already recruited the 3 vanilla Blades and started Esbern's dragon hunting quest. Installing and running the mod if you already have won't crash or break the game, but you will be in a weird state where you have a separate pool of Blades and dragon hunting quest from the vanilla quest lines. I will make this a priority for my next update, but in the meantime if you can, use a save game that hasn't started those quests.
  • Vanilla bug: Teldryn Sero will not have dialogue to take him on as a follower after recruitment. Fixed in unofficial skyrim patch
  • Vanilla bug: Derkeethus will not stay at Sky Haven Temple after recruitment and instead returns to Darkwater Crossing, but he does take on Blades armor and dialogue. Fixed in unofficial skyrim patch.
  • Engine Bug: Sometimes if you fast travel to the Dragon Lair immediately after getting the quest, only some or none of the Blades will show up. This is most likely due to a bug in the engine where the actors are not properly loaded into the cell. This is being investigated, but for now, simply wait a few seconds before fast traveling to the lair.
  • Mod Bug: Currently, the added recruits share the same schedules as the vanilla recruits, so they tend to bunch up in the hallways and common areas. This will be addressed in future releases.
