Three years later, Version 2.0. is here! I finally converted her to the High Poly Head, and added a couple new toys just for laughs. Also made her dress playable so you can enchant it if you'd like. Currently working on getting the rest of my kids converted.
She's safe to update mid-game, as long as you're updating from the non-HPH ESL version; just make sure she's in a different cell to avoid the dark face bug.
If you're game isn't updated to the newest version, you'll probably need to install Backported Extended ESL Support for the mod to work properly. Blame Bethesda.
Emily was made using Skyrim v1.5.97, so she's compatible with both SE and AE.
Also, don't gift Emily clothes. She uses a custom race, so she can't equip vanilla children's clothes. She thinks they're ugly anyways and will refuse to wear them. Just a use a follower management mod (like AFT) to manage outfits.
The girls (led by Emily) just absolutely eviscerated the sixth member of the Sinister Seven while I was crafting. I had no idea that they still had their combat packages as adoptable, but it was hilarious to watch.
Honestly i'm more than happy to call it a feature. It's funny as all hell to watch a rabble of kids take down an assassin that can drop my actual followers in seconds.
They can be with console commands. For the adoptable versions, just select the kid in the console and use the below to turn them into a follower: setrelationshiprank player 4 addfac 5c84d 1 Keep in mind the adoptable versions will scream and run away each time combat starts because they're little wimps.
The alternative is to adopt the follower version with console commands. Travel away from wherever their home is, dismiss the kid, select them with the console, and use: setrelationshiprank player 4 addfac 03004290 1 This turns them into an adoptable kid. Adopt them, send them home, travel there, and then re-add them as a follower with the first console command from above. Poof. Now your kid can tag along with you and not be a little milk drinker.
Wicked, thank you. In the interim I realised that NFF basically has the follower version plus the much-needed aggression patch as a built in feature so I went with that. But good to know there's a console command version!
Should be, as long as you're updating from the ESL version. To be on the safe side: make a clean save before, dismiss her if she's a follower, and make sure Emily is in a different cell to avoid the dark face bug.
Great mod! A suggestion might be to also make a boy. Though this is Skyrim I can’t seem to find a single blonde Nord boy to adopt. They are all dark haired. Seems strange.
How differently would I go about making a custom adoptable kiddo like this, compared to a regular follower mod? If you have any advice I'd be so appreciative! Needless to say, you've inspired me to try. :')
I downloaded all of the required files and finished the quests, i still cant adopt Emily, I'm still a noob at mods but I did follow the instructions. The rest of the kids can be adopted except for Emily she just stays on the seat ;-;
Okay, dumb question: do you have a home she can live in? Also, is she giving you any dialog options? And yeah, she should work just fine with almost any follower framework.
any follower will even those that say not to use them with them like ingo the trick is make sure its setup right from the start of the game to not overwrite the way the follower works a good example is my oldrim game which has around 30+ follower mods including ones that dont like mods like aft all working together it is related to load order and having the right mods each needs look into each follower mod and see what they need get those and ensure they are loaded when they should be you may have to set the rules within the mod manager yourself to ensure they work but they will

Well congrats on surviving moderation :')
Or just call it a feature.
setrelationshiprank player 4
