People weird think that apple isn't filling.
I dont think many people ever eat apples irl anymore.
    They just obese from steak.
also bread. how is bread not as filling as a steak. really? Ever eat a loaf of freakin bread?
can not find a single good food hunger mod anywhere that gets it right.

Well, irl, bread isn't as filling as a steak - or rather, it isn't as nutritionally dense. Eat a bunch of fats and proteins, and that'll keep you going a good while.  Eat an equivalent volume of mostly carbohydrates, and it'll "fill" you just as much, but you'll get hungry again much sooner.

That was my reasoning as well.

    Hello again,

The following food/meat were forgotten in this mod: they give only Health (no Hunger points).

    • Fox meat (raw and cooked)
    • Bear meat (raw and cooked)
    • Sabercat (raw and cooked)
    • Wolf (raw and cooked).

I confirmed using SSEedit (only ones I can see that do not have Survival/FoodRestoreHunger...).

      Hello,
I believe those meats are from a mod as I've never seen such items in my game :]
If you check in SSEdit which mod added those items, I could make a patch. But honestly I encourage doing it yourself as these kind of edits are very basic. Just take my edits as an example. Also this is a good way to start learning how Skyrim works :]

Oh, lol, did not realize those animal meats were from a mod :P
Yes, it is relatively easy to fix by hand with SSEedit. [Well, it is actually hard to find where to right-click in the SSEedit UI: you have to right-click in the column to the right of Effects to finally get the Add option... sigh.]

EDIT : found it. I was using Simple Food Hunting and Cooking Overhaul (which I removed yesterday as I thought your mod completely overrode it). It does stuff like "All animals now drop meat and no longer drop gold. ... Salt no longer required to cook meat."

I agree with you that if these do not drop in vanilla, it is not worth the work, especially as there are tons of food in the game.

I added Hunger values to the new meat (Bear Fox Wolf Sabre from another mod), BUT the effect Survival_FoodRestoreHunger_VeryLarge did not exist oddly.  I only had the four smaller options, so I set Large for the Cooked Bear Meat (though should at least be Very Large).  I tried to copy your value by hand directly: it was refused.

Hmm. Odd. If everything is loaded correctly, the Value should be in the list. Then again I am not by all means an expert on SSEdit :D
Sometimes it wants very specific things from you and it's not that easy to figure out what that is.
Sorry for not being of much help.

Adding this mod as a master to the file you're editing should let you use the Survival_FoodRestoreHunger_VeryLarge effect in it.

    Hi,
I made a compatibility patch for this mod to work with Apothecary Food (one of SimonMagus overhauls). Since I typically play on xbox, would you authorize me to port your mod onto xbox?
As per what concerns the patch, it simply forwards all the changes that the apothecary overhaul does to food and drinks, while retaining the changes your mod does to all other aspects of the hunger system, such as the changes to the amount of hunger points restored.

    Thanks!

I see the SMI version is now listed under "old files." Does this mean if I'm using SMI I should be using the main version again, or is the SMI version still relevant?

Honestly, I don't remember why I did that or if it's a mistake. Try the SMI version but also note that I am not updating anymore so it might be outdated already.

Your mod has the right idea of balancing the food, but the values are way too low. if my hunger meter is 60% I need to eat like five steaks just to be well fed. It should only be one.

      It was improved though.

You can use SSEedit to change the Hunger and/or HP heal values.

I set the hunger values taking in account the passage of time.
You need roughly one medium meal like Meat pie to satisfy hunger from 4 hours. As you would IRL.
Satisfying 60% hunger from one Steak would be like eating once a day. Not realistic IMO.
I wish I had the skill to make an MCM configurable menu so everyone could adjust the values to their liking. Maybe some experienced modder can do this.

I combine this mod with Survival Mode Settings, which I use to reduce the Hunger rate.  Survival mode in general is fine, but the Hunger rate is annoying and crazy.

Additionally, I change the timescale for broader reasons (my playstyle) :
      Console command : show timescale
Console command: set timescale to #
Example : set timescale to 8

Result : 1 real minute playing is 8 minutes in-game world.  About 8 min. is one hour in-game.
      - Instead of 1 real minute playing being 20 minutes in-game world (default).  3 min. is one hour in-game (!).

Recommended not to go below 7 for technical reasons related to some quests.

Yeah I included in the description a Timescale 10 mod that does this for people who don't want to use the console.

      Also forgot :

I utterly removed all penalties for Peckish, otherwise as soon as you have a tiny bit of 'hunger' you have a penalty to Stealth, weapon speed and Stamina (WTF : a constant penalty so must eat every freaken hour [few real minutes] ; guess Bethesda did not really play this mode).

Well.. initially this mod did increase the values, but after some Skyrim updates something changed and it only required two large foods per 24/h or something like that. So now it reduces the food values of medium and large foods, but still increases them for small and very small food.

For fun / discussion : I estimate my character has to eat around 10000 calories per day (3 animals, 6 wedges of cheese, 6 apples, 3 whole bread, and more but I forget), even if I reduced the Hunger rate by 50% (with another mod).  It is the bad aspect I find with the Survival Mode (constantly hungry/almost always a stamina penalty ; whereas Fatigue takes a while and Cold varies).  I also change the timescale with a console command as I like to take my time.

I like this mod in general, but I doubled the values for the two smaller meals (10 to 20 ; 20 to 40) [using SSEEdit], otherwise I feel my character eats an abnormal/less immersive amount of food.  The values for the bigger meals, set by his mod, are fine (the default ones are extreme in comparison).

Honestly.. all the values of this mod were calculated using... cheese. I decided what the biggest value should be and divided that by 8 to get the hunger value for a cheese wedge.
If you increase the value of small food, my cheese math gets broken :D
I guess if I change the cheese recipes to yield less cheese wedges the math could be fixed.. hmm.
Edit: Updated the mod as per your idea. Thanks for the feedback!

Updated and tested quickly : working fine on my end.

Goat Cheese Wedges were giving 40 Hunger points.

I looked into it and looks like it's cause by Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch being loaded after all the CC content.
But yes this mod will fix that.
