Changelogs
KYNE'S HUNT is a new quest mod that resembles the feeling of your typical survival game (Minecraft/Rust/Ark, etc.)
The quest requires Chanterelle as a base mod: a wild and huge beautiful worldspace created by the talented Vactrol.

To see the quest in action, watch the video below.

-THE BASICS-

  • Requirements: Chanterelle must be installed. The author of the worldspace seems like a great guy, go show his mod some love.

  • How to Start the Quest: The quest starts after praying to Kynareth or wearing her amulet and going to sleep. This is different than the normal start of Chanterelle (the travel agency post near Helgen, which is disabled by default with this mod).

  • Mod Recommendations: Survival type mods will enhance your experience with the quest, but are not mandatory. Shoutout to the first mod I ever made: "Skills of the Wild". Among other things, SOTW will disable your compass and map cursor, so only install it if you're ready for a hardcore experience. Sunhelm, Campfire, Frostfall, Hunterborn, etc. are all great (non mandatory) companions to this quest.

-FAQ-
- What is Chanterelle?
It's a new worldspace located to the southwest of Skyrim. The place is a sort of forgotten wild valley, almost exclusively inhabited by animals, monsters and some locals that live in small hunting communities.

- How big is this land?
The land itself is almost as big as Skyrim. I recommend playing without compass or map, to really experience the feeling of getting lost.

- Is it lore-friendly?
Well, it's not in the way that it doesn't really exist in the lore, same as... say Wyrmstooth. Is it plausible for a forgotten valley to exist between the mountains of Bruma and Elinhir? Well... perhaps? As long as you remember that the scale of things in the lore is not 1:1 with what's represented in-game. This land should obviously be a lot smaller than Skyrim... but then again, Whiterun is supposed to be a huge city and not a village of 10 people. All things said, I'm not too concerned with this worldspace existing, it's not a huge contradiction or big red flag to anything in the lore. If the possible existence of an uncharted small region in Tamriel bothers you, I suggest you think of it as a magically-protected Wakanda forest.

- How does your mod fit into this new worldspace?
My mod is a NOT official introduction quest to the world of Chanterelle. I created it because I love Vactrol's mod, but I never saw any reason for my character to get lost in this wild land to hunt, craft and explore other than me, the player, wanting to do this. My mod comes in to give you a reason to stay in Chanterelle for a while.

- What's the quest like?
Lore/story wise: Kyne, Goddess of the Nords, Mother of Men, Ruler of the Sky (and usually associated with Nature, of which there's plenty in this worldspace) cares about the fate of Nirn and humans. She prety much gave humans the power of the Thu'um so they could rebel and defeat the Dragons back in the day, but now dragons are making a come-back and she fears the level 1 Dragonborn is definitely gonna be eaten for breakfast by Alduin, thus dooming everyone. With this in mind, she sends a dream to the Dragonborn, (Aedra are quite weakened, so a dream will have to do, don't judge) asking the dragonborn to find a blind man. This man performs a ritual that starts Kyne's Sacred Trials (ON STEROIDS) that will take our character to train and hunt in a relatively safe wild nature environment south of Falkreath.

Mechanics wise: Very similar to vanilla's sacred trials quest. Hunt 10 spirit animals, each spirit animal you kill gives you a bonus % damage against that type of animal.

- Do I get a reward for completing the quest?
Yes, you get a big sense of pride and accomplishment an amulet, and a % damage bonus against X animal type. Say, if you kill the sabrecat spirit, you will gain "hunting insight" on that animal type, giving you 10% damage bonus against ALL sabrecats.

- How long will this quest take to complete?
Depends on how long you want to stay. I assume something like 10-15 hours easily if you're playing a survival type of mod and want to kill all the animals without using the map.

- Do I need to kill all spirit animals to finish the quest?
No, you don't have to kill a single one. Just returning to Skyrim alive and talking to Haaki completes the quest, but you will miss out on those permanent and super juicy % damage against certain animal types

- How do I find the spirit animals? This land is huuuuge.
Each spirit animal you kill drops a journal indicating the location of the next animal. You only need to find the first one blindly.

- How do I start the quest?
Pray to Kynareth or wear her amulet AND go to sleep. A dream window-message will pop up. After that, find the old blind man near Helgen.

 - Can I bring followers with me to Chanterelle?
Yes, if you drink up the potion via the dialogue option in the quest, your followers will also catch up with you in Chanterelle. This is not really the intended behaviour, but I don't want to mess with follower frameworks. If you don't want to have followers while you're doing the quest, dismiss them or tell them to wait before talking to the old man.

- Why do you say this is a not official quest?
Vactrol, the creator of the worldspace, is a bit of a genius even if he doesn't like to admit it. He has crafted this beautiful and huge land full of secrets, amazing vistas and places to explore. He's spent thousands of hours on it (and still continues to do so!) and has kindly decided to share it with all of us. My quest is just my vision of how best to deal with the introduction to Chanterelle, but please keep in mind this is just a submod. The quest and some small changes I've made to the world here and there reflect what is my idea for my perfect Skyrim load order, which isn't necesarily better or worse than anyone else's, it's just what I personally like the most. Some of these changes were added a long time ago when I never thought I'd be releasing this mod, so they're pretty much changes I did for myself, so you might or not agree with them. As always, you're free to tweak, enhance, remove or do with them as you like when it comes to my mod. I'm leaving the permissions open when it comes to everything related to this quest.

- What changes are there to the world besides the quest?
To vanilla Skyrim almost nothing. I just place a small camp with a fully voiced NPC near Helgen. He's quite hidden, so you won't see him unless you want to. To Chanterelle a couple of small things: I've placed a couple of tribals (human enemies) around the world in places where it makes sense, I've made it so all the locals in Chanterelle speak a foreign language, adding to their "lost tribe" vibe (they didn't have anything to say anyway), I've modified the entrances and exits to Skyrim to make them look like passages (by adding black occlusion rectangles), I've disabled the "travel agency" post near Helgen as we now have a proper way to start your adventure in Chanterelle, I've made it so the books of Chanterelle don't give XP (I found it too OP in the early levels) and are now mostly written in their foreign language, I've slightly decreased the number of Nirnroot across the rivers (In my game Nirnroots are OP and it could break the balance), added a bit more diversity to levels and apperances of tribals and natives and I think that's it. If I've broken something, blame me, not Vactrol... or he'll tell the tribals where I live.

- Why is everybody in this land speaking Russian?
You don't speak Russian in Chanterelle, Russian speaks YOU. Lol, you see. I tried all the different languages Skyrim has been localized to, and Russian was the one that sounded the best for the natives. This is of course what sounded the most fitting to me. If you speak or understand Russian, you will probably think it doesn't fit at all, but it is what it is. You're welcome to create a version that makes the tribals and natives speak German, Spanish or Arabic... Sounds like fun!

- Why is this mod description written in form of a FAQ?
Good question.

- Who helped develop this mod?
Quest is mine. Worldspace where the quest takes place is by Vactrol. Big thank you to DarthTyranus66 and Giboss for helping test this mod and spotting lots of bugs for me to fix before they could reach YOU.

- What are you working on next? Give us a sneak peek!
Nothing! I think it might be time for me to F I N A L L Y start playing the game... at least until I see something that bothers me and that I need to fix, like Sensible Bribes. I have a couple of ideas for small mods, but I want to take it easy now, it's been a pretty full year of modding. If you want to catch my Skyrim adventures and discuss mods, I'll be happy to have you. Feel free to come find me at twitch.tv/jayserpa
