I strongly recommend people switch over to Wild Concoctions for a better and more comprehensive patch. It should be perfectly safe to switch from this one to that one because this mod adds or changes no scripts of any kind. I apologize for not being able to actually finish this one but I'm glad that it acted as a nice place-holder so people could continue to enjoy the game with all of these awesome mods together even if it was a dysfunctional relationship. I'm going to leave this up for people who are uncomfortable switching mid game or whatever but I strongly recommend that you bounce over and at least give it a look. Thanks everyone!

    Things I'm really looking for:

    • Did I miss any recipes? Are there recipes that are locked because they are not using CACO ingredients?
    • If CACO is left on are there any problems using CACO's cooking skill or does it fully override Culinary Arts? (As best I can tell CACO does win out completely but I want to be sure.)
    • If CACO is disabled does Culinary Arts work as it should?
    • Are there any other problems or issues with this patch?

Obviously if you are not using it I strongly recommend the CACO - Hunterborn (or MCM version) Patch?. This one does not overlap that one, they are designed to work together. I have mentioned the need for an official patch on their page but they are quite busy and I don't know when or if they will get to it so I made this one. Thank you.

Hey awesome that you made this patch, thank you!

I'm going to test it soon, but I am happy that I could find this :)

Hello, so If I disable the Cooking Skill from CACO, what's the point of this patch? sorry if the question seems rude, it's just that I don't understand (:

Sorry it took so long to respond. The patch corrects problems such as some recipes requiring regular salt which CACO alters so that it is not a cooking ingredient and thus those recipes cannot be prepared without a patch. At this time if you want to use CACO's cooking skill then the patch works for that and allows you to actually make the recipes that would be blocked by the ingredients issue. If you add points to Culinary Arts then it won't hurt anything and I think it will unlock a small handful of recipes that CACO doesn't touch. If you want to try and see if cooking with CACO cooking turned off will let Culinary Arts take over then that's fine, too. That's what I want the feedback for, to see if turning off CACO cooking allows Culinary Arts to fully function as with CACO cooking on it is overridden by it. I was trying to test it more myself but some RL issues and health concerns have prevented me from doing so. Also why I'm delayed on my response, for which I am again apologizing.

The patch will not hurt your game at all. I've noticed some issues that the CACO - Hunterborn patching are causing with SOTW. It is removing the script that locks those recipes so it seems I will need to patch them all together into a single patch instead of using both. I've had some medical issues unexpectedly arise so it has slowed down my personal testing. If you play with CACO turned on then you will be able to use all of the recipes provided by Hunterborn/SOTW but through the CACO skill. The only thing I'm testing is if you turn off CACO cooking skill does Culinary Arts kick in. Feel free to give it a try.

I noticed that there are two CACO-Hunterborn patches. One provided by each mod. The one packaged in Kryptopyr's patches seems to break the ability to toggle selections in the Hunterborn MCM but the one included with Hunterborn doesn't interfere with this. I don't know however if this affects Skills of the Wild in any way though.

I use the Hunterborn-CACO SE MCM patch from Kryptopyr's patches and it works just fine. I have full use of the Hunterborn MCM and the CACO MCM and the features for both do work. That's why I linked to that one. According to the BUGS section the person who mentioned it there might have been using an older version of Hunterborn or had a mod conflict. And they don't seem to affect SOTW directly although in some cases it removes the restrictions for levels in Culinary Arts and replaces them with CACO cooking instead. I think I know a fix for that but it will take some time to work it out due to my RL issues but that's assuming that shutting off CACO cooking skill actually allows Culinary Arts to take over.

    Here's some feedback.

First and foremost, thanks for tackling this! I'm certainly going to use this and test it for you! Within the next couple of weeks... I'm slow, I know!
If disabling SOTW's cooking tree in favor of CACO's Cooking Tree is what it takes for maximum compatability, then that is the way to do it! HOWEVER, I was hoping that someone with the tech-savvy abilities such as you would come up with a sort-of Synergy-based patch that keeps both of these skill trees intact, but incorporates CACO's food into the SOTW skill tree, while limiting CACO recipes and locking them behind SOTW's skill prereqs at the same time.

If that was your intentional aim, then I apoligize, because as soon as I saw this my eyes flashed by all the text and only gathered "Beta... Feedback..." because I got so excited and wanted to thank you! So thank you!

To add to this, I'm good at making spreadsheets. I'm not a modder but if you need spreadsheets to organize data to help you with this, I can definately help you there. :) Just puttin' it out there.

I was hoping to do that as well but it looks like that is above my pay-grade to pull off. At this point the best I can manage is to have either SOTW or CACO (because CACO overrides SOTW) and I'm still testing to make sure that works correctly. So far I think it might be but I'm still not sure yet. Ideally I wanted it to be an option to choose which one to use in an MCM menu or something but Jay (the author of SOTW) tried making a patch that shut down Culinary Arts and it went badly. He said he can't figure out how to safely shut off Culinary Arts at this time as it is bound to the other trees and if he can't figure out how to safely shut down just one aspect of his mod then I'm not sure I can.

In the meantime I will happily take any feedback to let me know how the patch is working (or not working). If I've missed any recipes that are missing CACO ingredients, if the recipes are being locked behind Culinary Arts instead of CACO with CACO turned off; that sort of thing. I know that it seems to work fine if you leave CACO enabled and everything is locked behind CACO's cooking skill. What I'm trying to test (but I'm slow, too, hence the beta release :p ) is if shutting down CACO's cooking skill allows SOTW to fully take over.
