Should be safe to update to the latest version at any time. Current changelog below:

    Version 2.0
Major update: the gatehouse and undercroft/postern gate added/expanded, including a bathhouse and shortcut to the exterior. Four additional follower beds added. Brunhild now a merchant. The boat at the jetty can take you to different locations rather than just Riften Docks.

    Version 1.7
    Amended terrace shrine and marker.

    Version 1.6
Added a shrine to Kynareth to the roof terrace (with a more useful blessing than the standard game offers), and made a few architectural tweaks to the interior - particularly in the undercroft.

    Version 1.5
Corrected the ownership of a number of idle markers inside and out - this should result in more natural sandboxing behaviour for NPCs.

    Version 1.4
Fixed a handful of hearthfire planters with broken links.
Fixed a couple of activators that were no longer pointing to the generic 'Storage' correctly.

    Version 1.3

Adjusted lighting to be more reactive to the time of day - brighter during the day and darker at night.
Fixed several light markers that were incorrectly bleeding through statics to create impossible shadows.
Revised placement of several NPC idle markers.
Added an NPC to the basement cells.

    Version 1.2
Resolved conflict with the Bless home spell from the Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions mod that was preventing the house being marked as suitable for children and spouses.

    Version 1.1
Resolved dark face bug for NPCs.
Fixed inappropriate NPC responses to the player.
Corrected relationship flags so that NPCs would be friendlier to Yngol the dog.

    Version 1.0
    Initial Version.

Does anyone know of a castle mod like his one in the vicinity of whiterun? One that at the least does not look over the top both inside and out, and one that absolutely does not use custom furniture.

My followers are refusing the bottom floor. I've tried dismissing them on every floor but they only use floors 2 and 3. Even installed Multiple Floors Sandboxing and still nothing. Any suggestions? Love the mod!

      Thank you!

Interesting... I'm afraid I've never encountered anything like that. What mods do you use that could be altering NPC behaviour? I'd guess from this that your followers' sandbox package only has a small radius (there's plenty to do on the ground floor, it might just be outside their line of sight, in a manner of speaking). I use My Home Is Your Home, which allows you to specify different areas of the home to sandbox in at different times of day... which one are you using to rehome them? I'm assuming that if you teleport a follower to you on the ground floor, they come, but immediately head back upstairs? Or are they playing the NPC version of "the floor is lava"?

Odd, @SpleenofGod replied almost immediately, yet the user never answered.  I'm not having this issue, but I'm interested in the answers to the questions presented.

I've just downloaded this mod for the first time, already using Yngol's Spear.  Thanks!  I'll be blending this mod with Blackthorn, but that's no problem.  Looking forward to it!

Hey, no worries at all! There's always an element of modlist-wrangling that is basically witchcraft. Glad you figured it out!

Might be worth noting that Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions doesn't allow for different custom homes to be named in dialogues like these - I think it usually just lists "My new home" or similar among the options. Can you see that?

Otherwise, feel free to PM me your load order and I'll try to advise.

I AM ONLY CLEANING OUT MY MODS AND WILL IN FUTURE RE-INSTALL YOUR LOVELY CASTLE MOD. IT`S A SUPER CASTLE But need to clear out my older mods etc so I need help in Skyrim se/ae. 2 years ago I installed Heartwood Castle mod on Vortex. No probs with it but I want to remove it. When I do I cannot continue playing skyrim as there are DEPENDENCIES. Whats the best thing to do. Use console commands to DISABLE it in game. save a clean save the go back into that clean save. save another clean save and exit. remove / uninstall the mod from vortex and so on

Honestly not recommended, removing mods mid-playthrough, especially mods that use scripts. I don't think the ferreting around with clean saves will necessarily achieve anything either, but I'm no expert...

If you want my advice, I'd empty the home entirely (clear out all containers, remove all items from weapon racks / mannequins etc, rehome anyone living there not added by the mod itself, rehome any children) before attempting to uninstall it. And even then you'll probably want to find a script cleaning mod to ensure that the mod hasn't left any scripts behind in your save that will cause CTDs. Bear in mind that when you try to load your save (after uninstalling the mod) you'll still get the message that the save you're trying to load "relies on content that is no longer present" etc. - you just have to load it anyway and see whether it works.

Can't guarantee this approach will result in a stable game, but it should address some of the more obvious causes of issues resulting from uninstalling mods mid-playthrough. Good luck!

Thank you for your help. I will keep it store standard weapons armour/clothing etc in Skyrim to the Castle. Its fun buying all at the Apachii_Divine_Elegance and storing in new homes. It would be nice if it had a gardener clean up the yards. Cheers

Awesome castle! Nice layout and will actually hold 12 followers if using the C version. I do have two requests if possible, and I did have an issue which I'm happy to report as resolved.

For the requests, is it possible to add a bath to the main castle? The guard house has one, so it would only be fair for the actual castle to have something similar or even bigger. And can you make the rooftop pool auto undress/redress?

And I was having the same issue with the gap by the front gate. It turns out that one of Cynndal's home mods caused the conflict due to the location of getting to the house. You'll see the entrance cave/portal is where the conflict lies. Birchwood Manor

Once more I have to say great job with this. Thanks again.

I'm glad to hear you like it! And thank you for the heads up about Birchwood - I've added that to the compatibility section of the description page.

I'm afraid I won't be revisiting the castle at this stage - so no updates to come - but there are so many fantastic modders and mods on the Nexus, I reckon you'll be able to find an something that does tick those boxes.

I like the layout a lot. I didn't test multi-floor sandbox but to be able to see followers and children walking up and down those stairs to
open floor plans of idle markers from most vantage points would be the biggest draw for me. On that note I would love to see the
undercroft rooms to be in the same cell. Just some suggestions. Ownership of some clutters are not cleared. The walls are from two very
different sets of architectures and the difference in stone textures is very jarring. Why not go exclusive Dawnguard or Blue Palace for the
interior? More dramatic lighting template would take this house to a different level. Oh, the cooking fire probably needs a chimney.

Thanks for the feedback - are you using any retexture mods? I chose the architecture sets I did because I felt they gelled fairly well, and that wouldn't necessarily be the case if you use mods that touch the corrresponding textures. That said - personal preference and all that, what gels for me might not for you... glad you liked the layout at least!

I tried it on a new game that hasn't touched Dawnguard and Solitude textures, identical to what's in your screenshot of the Great Hall. It's a personal preference and I just can't unsee the same cell using very different textures.

There's a terrain conflict with More Bandit Camps, but that seems to be fixed if you load this after that mod.

Do you have Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions installed? Have you used the 'Bless Home' spell that comes with that mod inside the castle? Heartwood won't appear as an option until you do, and then I think it will be listed as 'my new home' or similar rather than named.

Hey, I've used your "Heartwood" on & off since '16 (LE Heartwood Tower) and recently came across the update you did for SE - love it!
Talk about a ton of immersive changes, wish I'd found it sooner (didn't know it was done for SE.)
    Well done!
I generally use it as a stronghold for an "evil" Lord who took control from the good Jarl & needs to be put down:  in final fight scene the Lord transforms into the dragon lol)
Is there anything that can be done with the guy in the dungeon?
Thanks for all the fun I've had and will have with this one.

Btw- the first time I activated the ledger & bought the castle all the Castle NPC's inside attacked  me & my followers. Solution was to move my followers outside then activate the ledger. I  let the castle npcs walk around for a minute then brought my followers back inside- no further issues.

That's great! I'm glad to hear it. Thanks for the feedback. Nothing much doing with the guy in the dungeon - he's basically biological set dressing (poor chap).

Good to know about that issue when initially purchasing the castle - I haven't encountered that one before, but it might help anyone else with the same issue.
