Hi! I like the challenge in the game. That's why I installed this mod with Mysticism - A Magic Overhaul. But I don't know if I'll have trouble finding the spell books. Can anyone enlighten me about this? Thanks!
you should probably install a mod that allows you to discover spells in some other ways. This mod isn't really made to challenge you (especially if you consider that an CC mod included in the full AE DLC adds a chest with the most overpowered destruction spell in the game, and you have access to it from lvl 1...), it's meant to add to other mods that let you research magic, like LeucisticDinosaur (the creator of this very mod) amazing Dino's Spell Discovery, or the popular Spell Research. Going back to your question (and I know this is months old, but it may help someone in the future): you will probably have trouble finding spell tomes, yeah. Sure, if you know where to look, vanilla has a LOT of tomes, and Mysticism also adds a couple. However, most of them are meant to be purchased, so you'll probably never find a lot of tomes, locking you out of some magic. I would strongly recommend adding some type of spell research mod alongside this
It's possible you have another mod editing Phinis Gestor or his vendor chest. If you haven't already, I'd recommend building a bashed or other conflict resolution patch; otherwise, you may want to check in xEdit to see what's happening with this record.
Alternatively, you could try simply moving this mod later in your load order and rebuilding any such patch. For example, if any mod loading after this one edits Phinis Gestor's vendor chest and is tagged Relev, this could cause him to still sell spells as in vanilla even after building a bashed patch.
I have somehow broken my install with this mod. I accidentally re-installed it when cleaning out some unused/uninstalled mods in vortex and now even after uninstalling it all new games have no tomes in vendors besides the ones added bu Arcanum. I've been trying to track down the culprit for hours and it seems like this is the mod because Lucan Riverwood trader still has his tomes. I've tried purging my mod list and redeploying everything with no effect. I'm all out of ideas here and was hoping maybe someone could help me out.
Nevermind, apparently I accidentally reinstalled another mod that does the same thing and missed removing it, FML, lol
Suggestion: Empty out the LItemSpellTomes00AllSpells list but don't remove it from the vendors that normally have it. Spellforge uses a script to place its configuration book in that list.
That actually won't work either. For the Spellforge starter book to be compatible with something like this, it needs to get added through some entirely different means. Maybe i should place it in the world somewhere in addition to having it at the vendor... Or i can add another option to the FOMOD that allows you to get it immediately in your starting inventory.
What i mean is that if you do it like this, any mod that adds spells to the levelled lists via script will still have spells at the vendors. And i'm fairly sure the majority of spell mods do this. So if you only empty out the levelled lists, you'll still have a lot of spells at the vendors.
I could be wrong on this though, i honestly havent looked that deeply into how spell mods distribute their spells.
Arctal is correct. Any mod that adds its tomes to the spell tome leveled lists, including LItemSpellTomes00AllSpells, will not be affected by any one-size-fits-all ESP that empties out those lists. I would need to patch each spell mod, and mods that add their spells to leveled lists via scripts would need a special custom patch to prevent them from doing so. Additionally, changes to those lists affect both vendors and loot. This is something that is intrinsic to how the leveled lists are structured in vanilla, and would require many more edits and compatibility patches to get around.
However, mods that change the leveled lists definitely have advantages, including that you can customize what mods are affected which this mod cannot do. There are a few existing mods that may be useful if this is what you want to do. No Spell Tomes as Loot or from Vendors is plug-and-play and has some individual patches for spell mods. There is also an xEdit patcher, which would allow you to exclude all other spell tomes in your load order, but retain the Spellforge manual.
I just updated Spellforge and added an option at install to auto-add the manual to the player's inventory. So pick that if you're playing with this mod and they'll be fully compatible.
Do you have any future plans to do the same with the other magic mods out there, and perhaps make a FOMOD installer so you can pick and choose (or the FOMOD auto Detects) the Spell Mods you have installed, and remove them from spell vendors and jst places them on loot lists?
I've used the "No Tomes" patcher, for your Discovery Mod, but some spell tomes managed to squeak through.
"This mod will be compatible with any spell mods that add their tomes via leveled lists, whether that is done directly by an edit to the leveled list record or via script."
Am I the one who understood it wrong? Doesn´t that mean, that you don´t need patches for spell-adding mods?
This is correct. This mod changes vendor chests, from which they draw items to sell, to remove leveled spell tome lists entirely. Many spell mods, including for example Apocalypse and Arcanum, add their tomes to leveled lists, so this mod will remove them from vendors (but not from loot or quest rewards).
On the other hand, if a spell mod adds a new vendor or adds its tomes directly to an existing vendor's chest, this mod won't affect it. Triumvirate is one good example of this; if I recall correctly Phenderix Magic also adds new vendors that would not be affected.
i've been looking for mod like this that works out of the box since i have several spell mods installed and im using spellforge so this is an absolute one for em :D
What about Triumvirate? Let's say I want to remove spell tomes from sellers, except Triumvirate sellers. Would this mod remove those books from their inventories? Or it "respects" Triumvirate? (Clarification: Triumvirate adds unique spells only obtainable by sellers) Edit: Just installed the mod and Danica Pure-Spring still sold me spells (not only Triumvirate spells, also common ones like Magelight) Edit2: Hmm... I just checked the mod conflicts with SSEdit and it changes more things than simply spells. conflicts with Triumvirate quite a lot. I guess I'll use the xEdit tome removal mod (mod 31042). Sorry for the inconvenience!
I'm not too familiar with Triumvirate, but at a glance it looks like its spell tomes are added to specific vendors. For example, I don't think Danica Pure-Spring is actually a vendor in vanilla, so this mod doesn't modify her at all. Likewise, any vendors added by other mods won't be changed. Assuming Triumvirate has inventory bashed tags, making a bashed patch would merge the conflicts, which I think would result in Neloth, Enthir, and Dravynea having Triumvirate spells but not vanilla ones-- but I can't be sure without digging into that plugin.
However, the other Triumvirate sellers would still have vanilla spell tomes without a manual patch, so it does sound like an xEdit patcher is a better option for your use case!
I did a manual patch. Not that hard. Also came handy because Wildshape (or wildshift or something like that) is incompatible with Improved Camera, so it's okay. Thanks a lot! I'll start using your "Spell Research Lite" :p let's see how it goes...

But I recently added Triumvirate - Mage Archetypes
and some of its Tombs are showing up at Vendors.

This is GREAT then!
Thank you good sir!

I'm going to try it together with:
Rarer spell tomes
No starting magic?
Less magic?
For that low-fantasy feel.
