This is absolutely nothing against you TB, but this is honestly awful compared to Quality Cubemaps. I really don't like posting this kind of thing but I don't want people to get inferior stuff. Here's some comparisons.
OH! Wow. :o Well, I guess I'll just return to Quality Cubemaps then. Lol! Dang. I love TB's stuff, too. Maybe this mod (hopefully) will be improved upon in the future.
Making cubemaps for this game can be a real pain in the butt , i think your post makes sense in a good way informing people of other options as to what these look like in game idk if its better , but i do hope if the other mod is better he can take the input and improve upon something most ppl dont think about creating or researching into.
The quality cubemaps are ridiclous high res, the file is 99mb packed, and TBs are only 15mb ! Quality cubemaps brings nothing in visual difference, only unnecessary memory stress and perhaps CTDs, most objects with cubemaps are to small to profit from high res textures, the same stupid thing with 4K textures on a bee. TBs are better than the vanilla ones, and in game there is no difference between quality cubemaps.
This is an utterly ignorant post. Have you checked the mod size? These are much smaller, so of course, they will have less detail but still look better than the default. That's like saying: "Look, this 8k texture mod looks much better than your 1k performance version. Why would you even make this?". Some people still need better performance versions. And for cube map purposes, you won't notice the difference and waste RAM.
@Exalderan It's always good to have variety. If anything happens to the most popular version you'll still be able to enjoy the thing the mod did thanks to different similar mods.
Jeez, finally someone gets the point. Skyrim's community is full of screen archers who think that every septim-sized object has to be 8k and 50mb in size. Apparently they think that everyone sits on 4090ti, i9 and 128gb RAM. And it's OK until someone starts telling what poeple shoud and should not do. In reality, lots of people have low-mid tier PC's or just enjoy the actual game instead if making 8k screens and would like something simple to boost the vanilla look a bit. Something like this mod, that does a decent job of making reflections look much better that the original at no performance cost.
unfortunately, even if it's better than bethesda... another mod on the nexus offers better upscaling. Still thank you for your hard work, too many choice is better than no choices
Not sure what's gone wrong, but installing this mod stuff is now rendering as if they have no cubemaps at all, causing everything to appear dull and lacking in shine.
Okay, I've got it working now. What I've found is that it won't work if I install it and boot up an existing save, but if I start a new game after installing this mod, it works just fine.
Cube maps are a way game tries to give reflections but without calculating them - if an object doesn't have much reflection detail you can get away with having the same refections for all objects in a particular environment - that is essentially what they do.
Just curious, looking at the textures, they look like they are upscaled from the original, having pixely artefacts that remind me of overcompressed jpg images. I obviously have no clue about the topic, but does that even give any benefit besides making the files larger?
Also, they are all simple squares and do not have the T shape of cubemaps. This might be an error.
They are upscaled but using an AI not standard upscaling techniques so should be more realistic Also, most of them seem not to have that t-shape with photoshop however it seems to work in-game fine

I have fixed the problem - thank you for bringing it up
