Finally someone said it! A spell is like a scroll you use, once its purpose is complete, the spell is absorbed as its host relinquishes the mortal coil of Nirn and into Aetherius.
I still don’t understand what this mod does do. Is it you can upgrade your spells by reading tomes based on how many hours you read? Can your novice spells upgrade?
This mod (Immersive Spell Learning - DESTified) a mod for immersion; instead of instantly learning a spell when you use a tome, you have to spend time studying it before you can cast it.
It's good alongside mods like Spell Research, since Spell Research's method of learning spells takes time too, so if you're able to just instantly learn the spell by using the tome, it kind of breaks the purpose of Spell Research.
For making spells more powerful, I recommend Simple Obvious Spell-Crafting 2 - craft forget relearn spells, since that lets you change the magnitude and duration of spells you already know (though it doesn't let you do Oblivion style spell crafting from scratch).
Edit: Currently (as of Jan 3, 2025), Simple Obvious Spell-Crafting 2 - craft forget relearn spells doesn't seem to work with Immersive Spell Learning - DESTified (or similar mods like Spell Tutor). My guess is that they both change what happens on spell tome activation, so there's likely no way they'll both be compatible unless one of them changes how the activation happens (I'd recommend the spell crafting one moves how it gets activated, but I have no clue how these mods actually work, so my suggestion is a worthless guess).
I have the MCM won't populate\one hour spell learning bug. (Using beta)(Also, playing downgraded 1.5.97. I think that was about the time it broke. Though unsure) In the old Immersive spell learning mod there was a way to console command settings. Can the be done with DESTIFIED?
I encountered a bug while using this mod where the mod stopped working and I can't learn spells. To clarify, when I have a spell tome if I activate it I get the visual indicator I have read the tome, but I do not get the interface to study. Nor do I get the spell. I tried to enable spell forgetting for one spell I did have, which didn't work either. I keep the learnt spell in my magic section and no pop-ups. When I activate a spell tome I can hear a visual prompt for reading the book and an activation noise, the mod seems not to work. For the character, I can't seem to learn any new spells or forget the current spells I know while the mod is enabled.
Workaround: For those who encounter this problem, I found if I disable the mod I can learn spells like vanilla. While this does suck as I love Immersive Spell Learning, this at least lets your character pick up new spells.
Mod List Information: I was using most mods from the Gate to Sovngarde mod pack. I fully appreciate that when running so many mods, it is likely to face issues like this, but I wanted to raise this issue in case anyone else encountered it.
Game Version: I currently have Skyrim to only update when I tell it to. Currently, I am using the version 1.6.640. I don't think my game version should be the issue as Immersive spell learning was working for this version before, but if this is the case I would appreciate any help.
Other information: Immersive Spell Learning was working fine for the current character, I was playing a new game where in the first couple hours I came across one spell tome and learned Conjure spectral wolf. The mod was working fine. About 5 hours later I brought the candlelight spell and was unable to learn the spell, I kept getting to read the book in my inventory. I tried reloading and going to previous saves but nothing seemed to work. The mod just seemed to stop working mid-playthrough. Previously I had used the same mod list and played a mage character up to level 78 with immersive spell-learning working fine (again I love this mod it's great). I discovered the workaround (disable the mod entirely) and then tried to reinstall the mod. Upon reinstalling the mod had the same issue (unable to read to learn spells). I tried using other tomes and tried to learn different spells, but kept getting the read book and no study time menu.
If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this I would appreciate the help.
The same happened when I tried to load my old GTS character from before the game version update a few months ago (cleaned save using ReSaver). Fixed by disabling mod -> load -> new save -> enable mod.
It has something to do with candlelight spell. I learned all other spells before I started with alteration. I learned the spell but, I can't master it. Casting the spell doesn't count against mastering. Is there a quest I can update to bypass it?
If you are experiencing this issue and have compacted/flagged the mod as ESL, re-install it and see if the issue resolves.
The issue stopped happening after doing so and loading back into a save, not saving after removing the mod.
It looks like the only direct reference to form IDs in this mod's scripts is when checking for Survival Mode and Sunhelm, so I wouldn't have expected this to be the issue.
Disable, save and install didn't work for me. MCM shows but it's blank\not loading. Reading a spell takes one hour even if it's a master spell. At least I can still read spells...
I love this! I cannot play a mage without it. It totally (in the best way) slows things down and makes being a mage feel earned. Pairing this with Valuable Spell tomes and the weight restriction from Sunhelm really makes being a mage a journey that is immersive.
Love that the books persist. Even though it is financially hard, so far (level 18) my character keeps the spell books on the shelf in Winterhold, like real text books. Feels like a library of accomplishment for the role playing nerd lol. But like real life, I may need to sell some back to get the more expensive advanced ones. I was off skyrim for years and years, having played it too much, this helped make my favorite class, mage, feel fresh. (If anyone reading this has also been gone a long time, or is newly modding, Obscure College of Winterhold is great too)
I tried Spell Research but it was too slow for me. This is exactly the level of complexity for me, thanks!
So looking into this mod it looks l would heavily recommend it on a new game. That I think explains a LOT of the posts here. You can try it on a existing game but I think its going to be hit or miss. I tested this and replicated issues on a existing game but on a New Game the mod works flawlessly.
That said there is a bug where if you are sitting and learning or studying a tome using the new method available in the update that gives % learned and you just hit the joy stick or move forward while sitting to exit the sitting animation - that will not actually stop the studying. It will continue until you jump, pull out a weapon, or sneak or something. So until then your just running around technically "studying".
In a perfect world I wouldn't mind the set hour studying method but the message should all be percent instead of hours left to learn its just cleaner and neater. But yea if you use the new method thats the only way to get the % learned messages. im Not opposed to the new method of just allowing the player to wait as long as they want but trying to exit the study session is not inherently intuitive. Technically you can navigate back to your invetory and then select the tome again to "stop Studying" But also you can just exit out smoothly by tapping the sneak button twice quick. Im not sure if the sneak exit is intended or if it will cause a issue however spamming errors in a log or something (havent looked). All that said the old system however works as expected no issues no bugs. The message box is just really long giving how many hours you have read and need to read yet instead of just a flat percent.

Anyways, hope this helps @smokingAltyn!
