This is a pretty good mod and fixes most of the issues I had with Obsidian in VR, but the fog looks broken, the sky needs to be brighter than the near objects and not the other way around
the authors created Onyx with the intention to fix grass lighting (especially at night), which can be seen pretty good in the comparison shot. the downside is that few single foggy weather types have this grey tree/dark sky look.
If this is what is causing the issue it would be nice to have an optional patch, I would rather have bright grass and proper fog, or just let me know how to fix it myself and I'll try and make the patch
Onyx was mostly generated with a script to get the lighting to look consistent. A few weathers, and a few transitions like the one pictured do need a little more manual tweaking to get things to look right. One of these days I plan to make a "Wolfman's Cut" or something like that to address these weathers, but RL hasn't left me a lot of free time for Skyrim lately.
No worries, I'll see if I can figure this out, I just haven't modded the game since the early days and came back mostly for VR, I'll have to find a way to make the creation kit work with the VR version because it doesn't seem to launch.
I've seen other people complain of the same issue on Reddit so I decided to try and fix the fog, I managed to get the creation kit and sseedit to work with Skyrim VR, this is all new to me so some pointers would be appreciated , what should I start tweaking to change the fog? If anyone can chime in that would be helpful
EDIT: Nevermind figured it out, looks much better now
Hi btw this grey colors will fix ELFX for you iam using it with this weather mod and i have darker mountains then sky so it looks good and not washed out iam using basic ELFX with ELFX shadows it is pain to patch out with all stuff but once you have it its awesome
Dude Where with sseedit to clear that white fog / mountains?
EDIT : 3 years of modding. Just removed Onyx VR for the first time because of white background or far object. installed ELFX weather and exterior alongside ELFX shadows . SHOULD HAVE DONE IT SOONER.
That said, onyx VR got the better rain over all mod. Ill try rain mods to fix huge drops when raining
EDIT 2 : Went back to ONYX. Its better at more point. The GREY moutains annoy me though. FIX PLEASE :(
Been using this ever since I bought SkyrimVR and I'm absolutely happy with it!
Just a note - I'm not even 100% sure if this is related to Onyx or not - several people noticed that Splashes of Storms / Splashes of Storms VR only shows splashes during light rain, nothing during medium or heavy rain.
Like I said, I'm absolutely not sure if this is even caused by Onyx or not, but apparently, Cathedral Weathers has the same issue, while it's working with Vivid Weathers. I just thought I'd bring this to your attention :)
Would it please be possible to make this work with Splashes of Storms VR? I really wanted that mod to work in my game, so I tried it with Azurite weather. I really liked it at first, but now I miss Onyx so much that I want to go back. That means loosing Splashes of storms though, but Onyx is worth it, however if you could make it work I'd be so happy! I've asked on the mod page for the Splashes mod as well, but got no answer. I don't know how to make patches myself, so I have to ask others.
Something's not right performance-wise (probably with the ENB) I've been using vivid weathers with the standard sgs hi fidelity ENB up to now and it ran fairly well, thou being a bit wonky (that weather mod doesn't seem to follow natural time of day and just "surprises you" with stuff).
Anyway, I came across a post somewhere claiming that vivid weathers is a huge performance hog so I figured it's a nice opportunity to give Onyx a shot... Well I disabled VW, installed this one.. swapped out the ENB for the one provided here.. It looks "okay", though nothing visually special was happening, just a normal cloudy day, however it put a massive hit on fps.. like pretty much 100% reprojection outside of buildings and even that's struggling. Idk, maybe it's the ENB provided as I can see it has a few extra effects compared to the standalone hi fidelity, but I didn't expect this much of a hit from it, especially when I'm running VR fps stabilizer and was having a fairly constant 90 with the previous combination (just to give you an idea, I'm running it on a RTX 2080 super with no supersampling whatsoever, in fact even the ingame supersampling is all the way to the left and everything else has 100%)
Yup, definitely something up with that ENB preset. I reinstalled Onyx the regular non-ENB style, then put back the regular high fidelity ENB I had before and I'm back to having 90 fps in most places
This is also the case for myself. Ran pretty well, only reprojecting near cities, and with this enb it chugs at a 1/10 the speed everywhere, no matter where I look or am. Also the hotkey doesn't bring up the overlay? Idk lol
Just looking into the options to use with this excellent mod, you mention :
"Cresty's Distant Mists is another mod which looks great in VR. Included in the fomod installer is a version of Onyx compatible with Cresty's mists. Just load Onyx Weathers after Cresty's Diststant Mists. No further patching required!"
But after downloading the Mist mod and installing I see no reference to ONYX so not sure what to select.
I probably confused with what your saying, but which weather mod should I choose for best results with your patch ? Thanks.
If you stand high up enough (High Hrothgar) you get this horrid horizon seam that moves with the headset and I been looking into how to blend or hide it any way possible ...

It was finished?
I didn't see in the download files.
also anyone got any experience with THE ENHANCER VR ENB? i'm wondering if i should pick the ENB or default version for this.

SGS's used to be a very light preset, but there have been a lot of updates since then. Maybe it doesn't work as good with newer ENB versions.

Also - any tips to hide the horizon seam ?
