First of all, thank you so much lRekol for this awesome mod! It's honestly, probably, my favorite armor mod I'm using, as it makes me feel like a ninja or something just as cool and stealthy. My only gripe, a very minor one, is that it isn't marked as esl and considering I'm using Nolvus, I think I inadvertently went over the 254 .esp cap and ruined a few of my saves. As such, I removed a few mods and am very wary of getting anywhere near 255, but I think I'm still around 251 at the moment.
Anyway, despite that I still wanted to use your awesome mod, so I finally started looking into making it an ESL file myself, and think I've succeeded! I'm not much of a modder myself, but I'll try to post a small guide for others that want to do it themselves. While it may seem a bit daunting, it's actually fairly easy and should only take about 2 min if you have all the right tools. I started here on reddit and used the top comment on this post from TheBrassDancer.
TL;DR if you want this file to be esl, follow the instructions below. And considering I'm a noob, if anyone is more familiar please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.
You'll need to download a program called xEdit, if you don't already have it, and follow these steps: 1. Open xEdit and right click on the center which contains all the plugin/esm/esp files. 2. Click on "Select None." 3. Now, find the "Black Mage Armor SE.esp" file by looking or typing the name in the filter box up top. 4. Click the check box next to it and then click Ok in the bottom right of the xEdit window. 5. Look over to the right side where you can see "Black Mage Armor SE.esp" and click on the + sign to expand it. 6. Look for "Cell" section and keep hitting the + until you get to "ArchMage Chest" or something like that. 7. Right click on the "ArchMage Chest" portion and select "Remove." 8. Now look for "Container" box/section and do the same for the other 2 chest, which is locate and remove them. 9. Right click on the top level "Black Mage Armor SE.esp" file on the right side and select "Compact FormIDs for ESL" from the drop down list. 10. Once that's done running, look for the "File Header" box/section right under the top level "Black Mage Armor SE.esp" and click that. 11. Now on the right side window, you should see "Record Flags" and an empty box next to it. 12. Double click on the empty box and set it to "ESL." 13. Lastly, close xEdit by clicking the close "X" on the top right and it should ask you to save and backup. 14. Hit Ok and then you should be done.
As I said, it sounds like a lot, but once you get in there, it's fairly simple and straightforward. I did it myself after searching and seeing a comment from NocturnalNerd that said it can't be an ESL file with the ArchMage chest option. So, I removed it myself and it seems to be working just fine. Granted, after removing the chest I spawned the full set using Skyrim Cheat Engine, equipped it and then fast traveled and didn't crash or run into any issues. If I do get any CTDs, crashes, or whatever, I'll be sure to report them. But until then I hope whomever wants this as an ESL file, can use my guide to do the same and enjoy this awesome armor mod!
P.S. I didn't get permission from the mod author to modify anything, so I hope I'm not stepping on any toes or out of line for making this post. So, if I am or this is poor etiquette, please let me know and I'll remove this post, otherwise please enjoy!
Hi ! I've been using this mod and loving it since before I switched to SSE, however I noticed a glitch with this version of the mod : when I use the mask (as a khajiit character), my character will randomly turn invisible then visible again. Could you fix this, please ?
I would like to expand upon this mod. I'm thinking different color varieties of this armor. I've been a fan of this armor set for a long time But it has absolutely killed me that there are no decent white mage robe armor sets for Skyrim. And if you think about it, that's a huge missed opportunity from the whole Lord of the Rings concept of Black Mage/ grey/ white mage. I suppose there are alternatives out there, but they are weak in comparison to what this set offers. Also read some comments about being specifically for factions which I think is also a great idea. imagine this armor set mixed with The Dark Brotherhood. Or Dawnguard textures, or even the snow elf armor kind of look. I mean this can go so far beyond just black mage armor. But like I said this is probably the best stand alone mage armor mod that I've ever used and I'm grateful for you making this content.
