    This mod turns campfires into something really weird and not pretty to behold. In addition there is no gain of FPS, tested before after the FPS is the same.

      This mod isn't here to gain FPS, but to propose a new look to the game.

      Did you use 512X512? Also you can just overwrite the campfires with embers xd or something.

    A heads up, this can create a sherbet look on campfires when combined with other texture mods.

    Would it be possible to port or something like that the script to something gimp or other software can use?

    I would love to use this for other things but I don't have photoshop?

    Edit: To clarify, I'm not asking you to do it but if its possible?

      You have to check if Gimp allows scripting (probably) and if it haves a "Oil Paint" filter type (not sure on this one).

      If you only need to convert a few textures then you can use https://www.photopea.com. Under filter>style>oil is a good oil painting filter. The default, without changing settings, is pretty good. It is manual, so it would be a pain to use it for a big texture pack, but if you only need to do a few textures for an armor mod, it would work.

    How resource-heavy is this mod? I'm running a fair number of script-heavy mods but not many high-res texture replacers on a 7-year old rig and sometimes it gets choppy, though I presume not because of GFX bottleneck.

      The 512x512 should improve your performance a lot.

      Thanks for the reply. I'll do some tinkering and see how it goes.

    It seems that the male leather armor textures don't actually have the paint effect applied. I checked in game and took a look at the texture files, and they're still vanilla. The rest of the textures are awesome though, they make the game look so much nicer!

      You're right, there is some textures without oil paint look.
      I've pushed and update with the fixed textures in the 1024x1024 resolution.
      I don't know why, but there is more missing textures in the 512x512 version, so I'll need more time to fix this one.

      Thanks for your input!

    This looks really interesting! I've been thinking about doing a comeback playthrough for Skyrim, but I always get bored of it all after a few hours. So I'd need it to be new an different, this looks like an ideal option :) would it still be compatible with ENBs/Reshade?

      It should be, but I'm not using ENB personally.
      I'm playing VR and I need every FPS I can get. :)

      I've created YeOlde - Oil Painted as a base and I'm gradually upgrading textures with YeOlde - Oil Painted Extended.
      Have fun! :)

      You don't need my scripts to apply this effect on one image at a time. But you need Photoshop and the Intel Texture Works plugin.

      There is how you can do it:
      1. Close Photoshop
      2. Download the IntelTextureWorks plugin:
      * my version: https://github.com/YeOldeDragon/Intel-Texture-Works-Plugin
      * or the official one: https://github.com/GameTechDev/Intel-Texture-Works-Plugin/releases.
      3. Copy it (unzipped) in the Photoshop plugin folder:
      * `Program Files\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Required\Plug-Ins\File Formats`
      * `Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\File Formats`
      4. Start Photoshop
      5. Open the picture you want to edit.
      6. Apply the Oil Paint Effect (menu Filter -> Stylize -> Oil Paint).
      * For a small effect, I usually use Stylization 3.5, Cleanliness: 2.5, Scale and Bristle detail to anything (it doesn't change anything), no lightning.
      * For a stronger effect, I use Stylization: 5.0 and Cleanliness: 5.0
      * You can apply the effect more than once, until you have the result you like.
      * I usually use image size between 1K and 2K... The effect will be really subtle on bigger image, but really strong on smaller image.
      7. Save the file as .dds

      One Question: I am trying to Apply this effect to some mods, but photoshop (cc 2019), does not work so well, Batch .dds files is too slow., i have the nvidia .dds plugin, do i need your plugin?
      EDIT: Nevermind i fixed it.
      How did you handle Normals Though?

      (Edited 26 march 2020)
      The current script do not edit normals. I resized them to lower rez, but I didn't oil painted them.
      You can oil paint them, but you'll have more tilling issue for sure.
      For YeOlde - Oil Painted Extended mod, I'm editing all textures and normal files manually to avoid tilling. I'm trying to update my batch script to autocorrect tiling issue. If it works, I'll update YeOlde - Oil Painted.

      Late update...
      The script now edit normal maps, with a more subtle effect (done on v1.1).
      You can check the scripts on github if you're curious.

      Cheers!

    I don't know if this is a bug someone else is having or not, but I cannot download the 512x512 file with NMM. NMM always stops at 1029mb and refuses to budge and then goes incomplete on me. I have tried downloading this file at least 10 different times with the same result. I'm thinking it's NMM, but I can't be sure. The 1024 textures downloaded but then my game refuses to start. I have done nothing I can think of to cause it to act like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    EDIT: Apparently NMM was acting up. It absolutely refused to download this mod for some reason even though it did once. *Shrugs*

    Looks cool - I'm really thinking of trying this.
    Would have to uninstall the other texture mods I currently have.

    1. How about Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - Textures.bsa ? that would overwrite these textures back to non-oiled (with their corrections) yes?
    Could you do an optional Oiled USSEP file?

    2. Really need a video of this. Maybe with comparison without / with 1k / with 512 ... anyone

      This mod will replace Skyrim original .bsa files (Skyrim - Textures0.bsa to Skyrim - Textures8.bsa).
      So any texture mod you are using will overwrite my this Oil Painted mod. If you want to use another texture mod over it, you can Oil Paint them (using Photoshop and my scripts) or ask me for it.
      1. I'll check if I can (permission) propose a patch for USSEP. If so, I'll add the patch later today on my other mod page: YeOlde - Oil Painted Extended. There is already patches for "Cloaks of Skyrim" and "Bandolier pouches and bags"
      2. I won't do video for now, but if anyone wants to, go for it!
