The NPC Valdr will remain hostile to all animals even after completion of the quest "Moss Mother Cavern." This mod makes a slight tweak to his quest faction to narrow his focus to only quest enemies and not to non-hostile animals.

THE PROBLEM

Have you ever rescued Valdr during the "Moss Mother Cavern" quest and after returning to Falkreath, discovered your boy Valdr running through the streets trying to kill the Caerellias' cow? I have! Eventually the guards get involved and soon the whole town descends into chaos.

Or perhaps you have the "Bring Meeko to Lod" mod and discovered Meeko and Valdr engaged in pitched combat for no seeming reason at all?

Well, gee golly, have I got news for you! Turns out, Valdr belongs to a one-man faction: dunMossMotherValdrFaction. This faction is intended to make him hostile to the spriggans and bears in the Moss Mother cave. However, it does this by making him an enemy to the Creature Faction, which therefore makes him a mortal enemy to every single animal in the game. Yes, that including cows, goats and pet dogs!

Probably because Valdr is meant to remain inside Dead Man's Drink after the quest, this oversight doesn't rear its ugly head very often. However, if you have a mod that diversifies NPC activities (like an AI enhancement mod) Valdr may take walks out of the inn, and promptly proceed to slaughter Falkreath's innocent animal population. 

THE SOLUTION

This simple, small mod makes only two edits:

  • Changes dunMossMotherValdrFaction, removing the Creature Faction as an enemy and replacing it with the Spriggan and Bear factions as enemies. Valdr will view the denizens of Moss Mother Cavern as enemies but will now no longer try to kill the perfectly harmless animal residents of Falkreath.
  • Edits CreatureFaction to remove Valdr's faction as an enemy. This will (hopefully) prevent goats from being the guilty parties in launching hostilities.

COMPATIBILITY

This mod makes NO edits to Valdr himself so should be compatible with anything that does.

  • Should be compatible with mods that alter NPC appearance/equipment (as I have never found one, yet, that touches faction data).
  • Confirmed compatible with Arthmoor's Falkreath.
  • Immersive Citizens also fixes Valdr and makes this mod unnecessary.
  • USMP-SE fixes Valdr as well and also makes this mod unnecessary.
  • NOT COMPATIBLE with any mod that might overwrite the two factions in questions. However, these are incredibly rare edits and unlikely to come across. However, please report any issues, thanks!
