    So, and interesting thing I've noticed is that even though I have this mod  later in my load order than Complete Crafting Overhaul, it's still overwriting two of the smithing books and turning them into ordinary skill books. Don't know how to fix this.

    Other than that, just wanted to say that I love this mod, and I appreciate the hard work.

    Why doesnt it work suddenly anymore? The first few times it worked perfectly, but now i only get the skill buff like always

    it does not seem to behave well with mod that switch out the skill books.
    for example : simonrim's hand to hand, merge lockpicking and pickpocket and convert the freed skill tree into hand to hand.
    Then (and this is the issue) change which books are the skills book.
    as the result of using both it and this mod, many skill book simply have no effect anymore

    This mod solves the conundrum of skill books most elegantly and is a vital part of my load order. It should have far more endorsements!

    Hey, this mod called Skyrim Platform? just released and it also has an easier way to convert? .psc files to .ts files. Can you please update this to speed up the scripting processes?

    Is there a away to see how much XP gain you have in your skills, I get the message popup when I read the books, but can't see anywhere to see your XP gain e.g. Active Effects...

    If it doesn't do this its OK, but just worth knowing so I can check the mod is working in my load order OK.

      FYI - I just installed this ASB patch, and a conflict showed in SSEEdit where the skill boost was filled with ERROR: could not be resolved.  I am not an expert, but it appeared to me that the compacted FORMID for the patch caused the error.

      I uninstalled it for now, since I don't know if it will break the skill books.

      @7531Leonidas, can you post a screenshot of the issue? I open this on SSEEdit as well and can't find any issues.

      I am not familiar with how to place images for posting.  I do not remember if I added the esl to the header (via Vortex or SSEEdit), or if the original download was already an espfe.  It may be I need to compact the formID in the original mod.

      Every skill book in the mod has a formID mismatch in the Script-properties section, using book 0001ace6 SkillPickpocket3 as an example:
      ASB original - LFSB_Pickpocket "Pickpocket" [PERK:FE0B380A]
      ASB-BCS patch - [FE0B330F] < Error: Could not be resolved >

      The 'shorter' IDs in the patch (each skill boost type - Marksman, Sneak, etc. - each have their own specific IDs in the error - this is why I think I have done something on my end.  I am sorry if this is not enough.

      I believe the problem is that you are trying to compact the form id in ASB in order to turn it into an ESL. This is breaking with the patch because the book records in the patch contain references to the form id in ASB, but these get changed when you compact them. There is a good writeup on ESM/ESL/ESP files by Arthmoor at https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/topic/5079-plugin-files-and-you-esmeslesp/ which goes into a lot of detail, but the point related to your issue is the following:


      • Other mods which reference form IDs in the mod you are compacting (compatiblity patches, script calls, etc) will break if you compact the form IDs on a mod that's been released to the public.

      I'm a little fuzzy myself here too, so does that mean that we can't ESL the original AlternateSkillBooks.esp?

      Ah, that's what I figured.  I used SSEEdit  to find esp's that could be made into esl's (some by compacting FormIDs) some time ago, before starting a new game, and ASB must have been one of them.  I will just wait for my next playthrough to redownload ASB and re-install it and the patch together.  I am very tired of having to scrap characters after updates that end up breaking my characters, so I won't try to fix it now.

      @tudoru That is correct, AlternateSkillBooks.esp cannot be flagged ESL as is. In order to be safe to flag ESL, all internal Form IDs in the plugin need to use only the last 3 digits as identifiers, since the rest is used internally by the engine to manage the fictitious slot FE where all ESL are placed. Looking at AlternateSkillBooks.esp, you see that the perks and quest used to manage things around have significant digits in this "forbidden" region. For example, LFSB_Pickpocket "Pickpocket" [PERK:0600230F]. This could be corrected by changing the Form IDs to the proper range for an ESL, but this would break existing save files since those would already carry references to the old Form IDs (also, the patch would need to be updated to use the new Form IDs, but this is way easier to manage than breaking users' save files).
