Guild Members Overhaul 2019

GMO - Guild Members Overhaul adds Apachii hairs to the main NPC's of every guild (and now all of Skyrim) as well as improving cosmetic appearance, boosting stats, raising level caps, and making many of them recruit-able followers. Previously the overhauls were posted under different mods (Better Bards, Better Companions, etc) but are now brought together for the sake of completion and convenience. The depth and degree of changes made vary from guild to guild but I tried to remain as non-invasive as possible (no scripting) and preserve the nature and character of each NPC when selecting the face and hair changes. The main "GMO - Guild Members Overhaul" file is standalone but all other files require the Apachii hair mods.

GMO 2019 for Skyrim SE vastly increases the number of NPC's that are converted to Apachii hair. Now all of Skyrim including all of the official DLC will have matching hair to complement the guild members. All meshes have been optimized, all facegen data freshly exported, and the .esp(s) updated to be compliant with Skyrim SE changes. Also, changes have been made from the original Oldrim version giving special attention to potential wifes and housecarls.

Features of GMO Include:

  • All followers set to "protected" to prevent premature death
  • Followers will now level with the player up to level 100
  • Thieves Guild followers no longer affect stealth of player
  • Follower perk and stat rebalancing (nothing dramatic)
  • Apachii hair for all named Skyrim NPC's (over 800 in total)
  • Cosmetic changes to NPC marriage candidates and guild members
  • Upgrade to the visual appeal of NPC's without breaking immersion
  • Optional replacement hair overhauls for popular mods
  • Can be used along side other cosmetic mods such as the Bijin series
  • ALL Optional GMO files will merge into a bashed patch so feel free to go crazy

Oh Em Gee, if you like this mod ENDORSE it!

    - PLEASE NOTE -

This series of mods makes changes to gear for several NPC's and you may have to start a new game for these changes to go into effect. Better Bards removes Aia's hood, Better Companions removes Njada's helmet, Better Mages removes the hoods of all three student followers (Brelyna, J'Zargo, and Onmund), and Better Thieves removes Karliah's hood. If any of these NPC's appear naked or without armor it is NOT a bug. This will only happen if you have already entered a room with one of these NPC's before installing this mod. Starting a new game will correct any issues and if you don't want to start a new game then simply give them something to wear.

For NPC's to appear as they do in the screenshots install these mods:

    Better Bards

Better Bards changes 12 NPC's that previously had uneventful lives into competent and attractive companions that will go adventuring, level with you up to 100, and even settle down and marry you (should you desire). All of the tavern dwelling bards in the main cities as well as several from the bards college can now be recruited, have a much wider array of skills and classes than before,  and more importantly... they look better! To get the most out of your companions pay attention to their class and skills.

I have uploaded an updated version of STSG's "Now Follower Bards Sing Everywhere" as an optional file but it comes highly recommended. Used in conjunction with "My Home Is Your Home" you can bring follower bards to your home, set their residence, then release them from being your follower and they will perform requests at your player houses. Credit goes to STSG for use of assets from his "Female bard for your house" mod.

This mod makes changes to the following NPC's.

Pantea Ateia (Bards college in Solitude) - Priest
Illdi (Bards college in Solitude) - Priest
Aia Arria (Bards college in Solitude) - Necro
Karita (Windpeak Inn in Dawnstar) - Spellsword
Lauffyn (Candlehearth Hall in Windhelm) - Necro
Lisette (WInking Skeever in Solitude) - Spellsword
Delacourt (Dead Man's Drink in Falkreath) - Rogue
Mikael (Bannered Mare in Whiterun) - Priest
Ogmund (Silver-Blood Inn in Markarth) - Fighter
Ataf (Bards college in Solitude) - Spellsword
Sven (Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood) - Rogue
Lurbuk (Moorside Inn in Morthal) - Rogue

Better Companions

Better Companions is a slight overhaul of the fighters guild NPC's that improves the stats and perks of all of the companion followers, raises the level cap to 100, and changes the hair of all members of the guild to Apachii hair styles. Aela, Ria, and Njada are cuter now (in my opinion), Farkas and Vikas look like death metal rockers, and Torvar... kinda looks like Chuck Norris.

This mod makes cosmetic changes to the following NPC's: Aela, Athis, Eorlund, Farkas, Kodlak, Njada, Ria, Skjor, Tilma, Torvar, ignar, and Vikas.

Predator Vision - Night Eye and Thermal Vision Overhaul

Better Theives

Better Thieves raises the level cap of Brynjolf, Vex, Karliah, and all followers to 100 and sets those NPC's to level with the character. Aside from that the base attributes of all follower and some core NPC's have been raised slightly, their perks rebalanced (nothing over-powered), and theoretically none of the thieves guild followers should affect the players stealth now.

Something that struck me as odd during my first play through was the complete lack of thieves guild followers so I tried to correct that here by changing the NPC's that the vanilla games scripting would allow without changing the scripting itself. The main 3 are Garthar, Rune, and Vipir, but I also set Sapphire and Dirge to follower faction (see below).

This mod makes cosmetic changes to the following NPC's: Brynjolf (see recommended mods), Delvin, Dirge, Enthir, Garthar (follower), Karliah (see recommended mods), Mallus, Mercer, Niranye, Ravyn (follower), Rune (follower), Sapphire (follower), Thrynn, Tonilia, Vekel, Vex (see recommended mods), and Vipir (follower).

Recommended mods for use with Better Thieves

Brynjolf and Vex - Thieves Guild Followers
Nightingall Hall Restored - Karliah as a follower

- PLEASE NOTE -

The follower NPC's will start out on as an ally with the player character, which may seem odd (at the start of the game) because their dialogue will often be more positive than it should be given the length of time they have known you. I have added Dirge and Sapphire to the follower faction but did not raise there player relationship rank so when and if you decide to use them as followers open the console and target them then type "setrelationshiprank player 4" then hit enter.

If you want Byrnjolf and Vex to be a follower after completing the thieves guild quest line then download and install Brynjolf and Vex - Thieves Guild Followers. It makes script changes but it seems to work well in my game and compliments this mod. I went ahead and buffed both Brynjolf and Vex as I did the other followers (increasing perks and attributes, etc) in anticipation of using this mod. Make sure Better Thieves is loaded AFTER kryptopyr's mod.

I have raised Karliah's stats, perks, etc also and for a reason, while my mod doesn't change scripting to allow for her to become a follower I made sure it is compatible with another mod that does. If you want Karliah to become a recruit able follower once the thieves guild quest line is over then download and install Nightingall Hall Restored - Karliah as a follower and make sure my mod is loaded AFTER it in your load order.

Both of the mods I just mentioned are Oldrim mods but can be (easily) converted to Skyrim SE by using one of the many guides out there. It should be as simple as opening the mods .esp files in the Skyrim SE Creation Kit then re-saving.

Better Mages

Better Mages adds Apachii hairs to all members of the College of Winterhold, raises the base attributes of J'Zargo, Onmund, and Brelyna, rebalances their perks, sets them to essential, and removes their hoods.

This mod makes cosmetic changes to the following NPC's: Ancano, Arniel, Brelyna (follower,), Colette, Drevis, Faralda, J'Zargo (follower), Mirabelle, Nirya, Onmund (follower), Phinis, Sergius, Tolfdir, and Urag.

Recommended mods for use with Better Mages

Apocalypse - Magic of Skyrim

Better Assassins

Better Assassins is the last and least of the Apachii hair replacers, changing only 6 NPC's. No changes are made in any other way except for Cicero who is a "potential" follower. His base attributes have been raised, perks added, and his level cap is now 100.

This mod makes changes to the following NPC's: Arnbjorn, Astrid, Cicero, Festus, Gabriella, and Nazir.

GMO - Complete Overhaul

GMO - Complete Overhaul is the full NPC overhaul for Skyrim SE and its official DLC. This mod makes changes to over 850 NPC's. The only NPC's not touched are ones whose appearance I felt should be left alone. If you notice any NPC's that I have overlooked and would like their vanilla hair replaced just report them in the comments section or in a PM to me.

- PLEASE NOTE -

GMO - Complete Overhaul is a merged version of GMO - Hirelings Housecarls Maidens and Gentlemen, GMO Serana and Valerica, and GMO - Guild Members Overhaul that offers a few cosmetic changes to guild member NPC's such as a Aela the Huntress and Lisette (see screenshots). If you are using version 1.1 of GMO - Hirelings Housecarls Maidens and Gentlemen and/or GMO - Guild members Overhaul then there is no need to download this file unless you prefer the aesthetic alterations.

Outcasts Harlots & Hoodlums

GMO - Outcasts Harlots & Hoodlums adds Apachii hair to over 1300 enemy NPC's (the entire game with all DLC). City Guards, Bandits, Outlaws, Necromancers, Afflicted, Vampires and all encounter based NPC's are covered. I did my best to retain some level of immersion by giving Imperials the shorter hair styles and Stormcloaks the longer styles, retaining the more flamboyant styles for nobles, and giving bandits and highwaymen the wilder/messy/punk styles.

GMO - No Helmets and Full helmets

Included in the MISC section are two files I wanted to explain. Apachii hairs do not have a standard neck-line when seen under a helmet that is too revealing, such as the imperial light helmet, scaled helmet, and hide helmet. For most that isn't an issue but it you are OCD or very concerned about appearances you might not like that.

Two easy options are to 1) remove all the guards helmets, which people who have installed mods like Immersive Wenches might like because it lets them see all the cute female guards or 2) change the helmets that are too revealing to something else.

GMO - No Guard Helmets is pretty clear, it removes helmets from all city guards and imperial soldiers (but not civil war battlers), it also removes the light and heavy Dawnguard helmets. This is a good choice for people who want to look at all the work that has gone into making sure every last person in Skyrim has Apachii hair. This causes another very small issue though... there are only so many guards that are cycled through the cities so chances are, with all the helmets off, you're gonna notice twins every now and then. If seeing Daryl and his other brother Daryl gets on your nerves you might want to go with option two (authors choice).

GMO - Full Helmets removes the imperial light helmet, imperial heavy helmet, scaled helmet, and hide helmet from the leveled lists for guards and imperial soldiers so they will never be seen wearing them. I replace the imperial light helmet with a leather helmet and the heavier imperial helm with a steel helmet. You will never notice the difference and this lets you continue seeing your guards faces up to the point where you blow them up and strip off their armor to reveal their stylish hair cuts. This mod does NOT change anything else, so you will occasionally still see a guard with no helmet and if you have other mods such as Immersive Armors the helmets from those mods will STILL show up from time to time on your guards, however, the helmets from Immersive Armors look really great and aren't revealing from what I have seen.

The following mods are recommended:

Wildcat - Combat of Skyrim
Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim
Immersive Movement
Skyrim Skill Uncapper
Imperious - Races of Skyrim

If you use Imperious along side Interesting NPC's then download this patch.

Installation

I recommend using Mod Organizer because it makes modding Skyrim a bliss bestowing experience or Nexus Mod manager (if you're desperate) for installation. Feel free, however, to manually install by unzipping the downloaded file(s) to your data directory, merging the textures and meshes folders, then activate the .esp file(s) in your Skyrim launcher. Make sure you install the optional files (such as GMO - Interesting NPC's or GMO - Immersive Patrols AFTER their prerequisite mods.

If you use other cosmetic mods that change the appearance of NPC's (Bijin etc) just install them after GMO and place their .esp's beneath GMO in your load order. Be aware, however that you may lose the stat and perk alterations from GMO by doing so.

LOOT will NOT place the files in the correct order. Place the .esp file(s) at the bottom of your load order directly above your weather mods, as shown below. If you are experiencing NPC black faces then try moving the GMO .esps lower in your order. You must manually adjust your load order after running LOOT, every time.
