UPDATE: Newer version uploaded. Minor fixes and should also fix the issue a few people were having with the percentages not showing up. At any rate, use SSE Engine Fixes with the edit from the post listed directly below.

Summermyst and Wintermyst Patches are Now Live

As for why it is a separate mod, that's because it's by a different author so I don't know if its right to merge them.

You should probably make a sticky there is a current bug in SKSE64 that prevents Loot and Degradation from properly distributing tempered and enchanted weapons and armors into the leveled lists.

SSE Engine Fixes *ahem* fixes this bug as well some other things with the following command in the ini

; temporarily patches some bugs in skse & skee (if you have it) until the devs release a new version
    [Temporary]
    enabled=true

Hey thanks for the heads up. I do use SSE Engine Fixes. Can't do without it and I expect anybody playing should be using SSE Fixes. And I will make your post the sticky my man since you pointed out something that will help everyone

It's too bad, that when an NPC loots for example an armor from a dead body, they don't equip it, it just sits in their inventory. They do use weapons however.

Just tested it, and it works on 1.6.1170. Also, does anyone know of a mod that allows me to adjust armor stats the same way Weapon Damage UI allows me to adjust weapon stats? That would be great.

The reason I want this is:

The rate of degradation scales with material type. From least durable to most durable: Cloth, Wood, Fur, Leather, Iron, Steel, Elven, Bonemold, Falmer, Dwarven, Glass, Chitin, Orcish, Dragon, Ebony, Stalhrim, Daedric.

As far as I’m concerned, a sword is just a sword no matter what it’s made of. (I guess it matters if it’s made out of cloth.) If I make all weapons and armors have roughly the same stats, then rarer gear is now only more valuable because it’s more durable. Doesn’t do more damage, but it’s more reliable.

The difficulty can be fine-tuned after that with stuff like NPC Stat Rescaler (or Logical Health Limits), Wildcat (or Custom Difficulty UI), Customize Weapon Speed, Enemy Releveler, etc, etc.

I also need a mod that makes rare gear and materials a lot more rare. At the moment, I think I have to use True Unleveled Skyrim for that. I like the rarity and smithing changes in MorrowLoot Ultimate, not to mention the carefully hand-placed loot, but instead of spreading the stats between common and rare further apart, I want them to be squished closer together.

Combat will rely more on perks, skills, and fighting styles than on raw equipment stats. Perks, skills, and fighting styles will be given to enemies with SPID and AI mods to make combat more interesting. Know Your Enemy 2 can also make combat more interesting. If I soften up enemies a bit with NPC Stat Rescaler, and make all equipment useful by making all equipment stats the same, then maybe I won’t have to spend 20 hours grinding levels before I’m strong enough to face unleveled enemies. Mortal Enemies + TK Dodge might raise survivability, too. Even so, higher level enemies will still be threatening because of their perks and abilities.

In an unleveled world, I’m the kind of person who will just grind and grind (selling potions for money so I can pay trainers to raise my skills, then utilizing the enchanting-alchemy loop to reach max potential) until I’m powerful enough to one-shot everything. After I’ve done that, THEN I can play the game and have fun. Doing it that way isn’t actually fun though. I need some way to make exploring Skyrim possible, but dangerous at the same time. I want the game to be challenging, but not unfair. I want my struggles to be viable, entertaining, and immersive rather than long, frustrating, repetitive, and dull. I think making Skyrim a lot less about equipment stats is the way to go.

That’s the idea, anyway. I want to build my load order around Loot and Degradation. Mod suggestions and second opinions are welcome.

Edit: Ok, so ComEq2000 Combat Equalizer has an armor addon (part of the main file) that allows you to adjust armor stats based on material. Resistances Rescaled makes armor and resistances work better in the early game, which should make it somewhat easier to face higher leveled magic users. Armor Rating Overhaul makes armor work better at early levels too, and also applies armor rating to NPCs. I would use Armor Rating Redux, but according to the comments it won’t work on 1.6.1170.

Anyway, sorry for using this as my personal mod list board. I’ve just about got all my stuff figured out now.

Do your weapons and armor break?

I am using the mod but the weapons/armor no longer break.

Yes, my equipment breaks. Maybe you can try a mod called Disable Free Creation Club Contents.

      https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/80697

I was already using it when I tried Loot and Degradation, so that might have helped. I also already had USSEP, SSE Engine Fixes, Bug Fixes SSE, and Scrambled Bugs (after a quick look at my download history). Right now I’m thinking that Disable Free Creation Club Contents might have made Loot and Degradation work because I’m assuming that it was the Creation Club updates to the game that made it stop working. A comment below says it works on 1.5.97. I really don’t know though.

Other than that, I can only offer you a generic “might be a mod conflict, and make sure the item break chance wasn’t set back to 0 in the MCM somehow”.

L&D can break PC and follower equipment? Cool! Can it break NPC equipment as well?

Don't Roll In That - NPC Loot Reduction at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)

This will give you something like you are wanting. Works perfectly with L&D. You can play with settings to get what you want. I made the torso not lootable though (to prevent nude bodies) and reduce the number of coins from loot. Very little performance cost either doing this. Great mod. Check it out.

Technically what happens is the NPC gets varied quality of armor and weapon and uses them during the fight. Although they don't break during combat they do show a nice variety which 'appears' like they are wearing down. Also L&D does a great job at making the better quality stuff seen less often which makes looting nice as well as paying for a smith to temper stuff. DRIT makes some of these pieces not lootable.

I came back to this after having some issues with it when using AFT (updated original by Fuse). Because of the way AFT has the followers flip between equip/unequip when this mod changes the state of the weapons it caused the followers to break badly often. Even letting them carry a torch would break them.

I went back to Underwhelming Multiple Followers with Simple Outfit Manager for outfits and I do get rare issues but minimal enough to easily look past.

This mod works very well and is very smooth in how it interacts with A LOT of combat from OBIS. And most of the equipment is updated on the NPCs. Amazing.

A little late but why not use Nether Follower Framework?

      Off topic here but....
Because of Netherworks' attitude with support questions to examine existing issues. NFF is constantly doing strange things with followers and heavy scope creep. Special sequences to not break outfits, special sequences to not break returning to home, 50% of the time the follower would not even make it home and had to be summoned. LE version was worse but same crazy stuff happens in SE. I tried it again before returning to UMF and same stupid stuff is happening.

Loot and Degradation had issues with NFF too. Might be a Skyrim thing buuuuut.....I have none of these issues with UMF which uses the vanilla equipping system......meaning.....there are not combat styles being forced on the follower. The combat style from the follower itself is used which makes me think it has something to do with how AFT/NFF and others are forcing weapon swaps to break the follower equips.

Using UMF, Simple Outfit Manager, and My Home is Your Home with L&D and just about anything else has not broken anything.

I read comments that it doesn't work, I have a save with over 60 hours and this mod works fine. I'm playing on version 1.5.97. However, if your combats take a long time due to the difficulty like me, I recommend lowering the rate or you will go home naked with your follower after a Dungeon. I also recommend leaving the tempering to Honed Metal mod.

    Item break not works properly.
I have an item without any temper (steel battleaxe) and currently it is my 100'th swing to on enemies and still not broke.
I wanted to use this mod but item break not works.

Hello do we still need to do the edit in SSE fixes or is it fine to just download SSE Engine Fixes without doing the command edit?

I think you're fine to ignore this now. There isn't even an .ini file anymore and is replaced with a .toml file with no option for "temporary". I found the text below in the SSE engine fixes changelog from a couple versions back. I'm only guessing, but perhaps enabling temporary to true would activate these temporary fixes that have since been incorporated into the default state.

      • Remove temporary fixes from source/page since SKEE & SKSE have long updated to fix those bugs - SSE Engine fixes V2.9 (which itself is so old that I can't see the date, but presumable after the stickied post in 2018?)

    Hello,

I have given the armour to a smith to temper, how long does it take to get them to finish the work?
Also can I temper the items myself?

OI! I'm using the Gate to Sovngarde collection, and my character is level 19, what prerequisites do i need to reach to make Eorlund Greymane temper Daedric artefacts? Specifically the Mace of Molag Ballin'? Do i need to be of a specific level?

i̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶a̶n̶y̶ ̶d̶i̶s̶c̶u̶s̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ (Edit; there was someone who asked about Eorlund not upgrading daedric artefacts back in 2019 on this mod's forums, and they never got an answer, sad to see.)
any info reguarding the mechanics would be helpful!

Edit 2! after cheating in  a absurd amount of gold, i found out that eorlund can upgrade daedric artifacts... for a absurd amount of gold! it seems like eorlund will only upgrade things up to the maximum level he can, which means... in order to upgrade Mehrune's razor to exquisite quality... it cost 167000 gold. I'm glad that i have confirmation that it's a somewhat intended mechanic, but i dont think i've ever seen that much gold in a playthrough without exploits, haha.
