It works, but... I have a very heavily modded Whiterun FPS range from 22- 35+, gain about 5fps+ across the board however the lightrays coming in from the windows and the entire map are distorted . Rather then try to explain I've included a pic. Using MO2 and can't find any conflicts, will eventually load into SSedit and see if that shows anything. ( sorry for the half measure info atm)
It's rather strange as a problem. I only changed the textures under Whiterun, that is, it only removes the grass. I did not touch anything else. Maybe there is a conflict actually. Nevertheless, you can try to put my mod at the bottom of your load order.
You must have a conflict with another mod somewhere, because I just DL'd this to try it out to see if it would help lessen some of my FPS slowdown in Whiterun and I don't get anything like what you're seeing in those screenshots.
Well here's an update to finish it off. Checked in SSEDIT but no conflicts are shown. ATM fix for grass is at the bottom, I'll try a few different positions in the list order and muck about a bit more. Let you know if I resolve the issue.
Hello Lenox47. It works, no more graphical issues, all I did different was run loot for the 4th time. Tried to duplicate issue by moving the esp around very top or very bottom but it made no difference , please feel free to remove all my comments and pics as they are not representative of what I have been testing for the past hour. Thanks.
Same trouble: I have huge moddified Whiterun and with this ESL plugin I lost around free 6-7 FPS in interior and exterior. I'll trying put him in bottom and in top, but still.
Thanks! Here in 2023 using JKs Skyrim + Dawn of Skyrim & Folkvangr grass my Whiterun had it all over in places that definitely didn't make any sense. This seems to have easily resolved the issue.
dude holy s*** i love u im using https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/48689 as grass and ur mod fixed my HUGE fps loss in whiterun that was driving me crazy
From description: "This fix aims to optimize the FPS and stability of the game within the city of Whiterun by modifying the textures located under the city"
I found that this mod changes the name "Skyrim" to "Bordeciel" when saving the game in the open world (e.g. The Rift, The reach etc..). I hope you're able to rectify this. BTW, I did get a bump in frame rate (7fps) in Whiterun. Thanks for creating this mod.
When I say below, I mean layers of land under the city, which are invisible in the game but are used by the engine anyway.
What happens is that some mods add textures (including the default grass) to sometimes useless places. And this is the case for Whiterun with some mods that modify the vegetation.
So I proposed this mod to remove all traces of grass under the city, so as to optimize the framerate for players who have medium configurations.

Maybe there is a conflict actually. Nevertheless, you can try to put my mod at the bottom of your load order.
Thanks.

No grass in Cities
"This fix aims to optimize the FPS and stability of the game within the city of Whiterun by modifying the textures located under the city"
Thanks for creating this mod.
What do you mean by saying "under the city".
You mean some invisible part of the city, or visible?
Under the city - walls - outside?
Beneath the city, under the "floor"?
Under the city - outskirts?
