Yeah, I actually tried it while I was testing it. The issue is that is difficult to balance playability and usefulness.
Like... you can probably grab 8 rusted cups in a nordic ruin (they make 1 iron ingot for a total of 4 stones), or 4 silver plates from a noble house and make a silver ingot, but if you raise those numbers it becomes a chore to collect enough items and thus the mod becomes useless. On the other side, rebalancing the economy of the game is tricky at best (I think there are some game overhauls that tried to do it, though).
hmmm tbh I think the focus shouldnt be making the mod a core way of getting materials, more a complete addative/extra. atleast IMO of course- it shouldnt be giving enough materials for you to make things with it, but more just to help out.
a situation i can magine myself being in is like 10-30 hours into a run with tons of junk and needing iron or something bad, then remembering i have tons of junk and can get materials out of it
That's pretty much the idea behind the mod, too. I have literally tons of junk left in the chest of the Hearthfire houses, or custom houses far away from the nearest blacksmith or otherwise vendor. So it's easier to just melt that stuff and then use the ingots I got from that, rather than making a trip to the next city.
I purposely avoided a too generous return because I didn't wanted to break the game's economy, but If the issue is the balance I'm open to suggestions to make alternative versions.
