About this mod

A new way to use shouts that relies less on cooldowns, & more on a character's build/stats/playstyle

Cooldowns make sense, but they also kind of...don't

On one hand, shouts are too strong to just let players spam them constantly. On the other hand, the #1 rule in gameplay is to have gameplay. It's very hard to properly balance a feature that locks out for an extended time without giving a player any agency, so I decided to tweak the costs of shouts

Main Features:
  • When you release a shout, it will drain either stamina, magicka, or health in replacement of the shout cooldown
  • If you don't have enough of a given stat, then after you've been drained, the cooldown will be applied like normal
  • A shout can also drain 2 stats, or all 3, but it will split the amount to be drained between each of the stats
  • All assignments can be edited in "Dragontongue.ini", & extra assignments for other mods (like Thunderchild), can be added in the "SKSE/Plugins/Dragontongue/" folder
  • For example: By default in "Dragontongue.ini", you'll see that Unrelenting Force=Stamina. That means each time that you shout "Fus", your stamina will be drained based on the cooldown of Unrelenting Force
Advantages:
  • More risk/reward gameplay where you can actually decide how best to use shouts in a given situation
  • Keeps cooldowns relevant to shout gameplay, without making them overly obstructing
  • Allows for builds to actually matter: mages with high magicka pools, warriors with high health, etc. can develop a unique shout-style based on their specialties
  • Encourages using a variety of shouts to play around the costs of having your power drained
Disadvantages:

None....obviously

Configuration:
SKSE/Plugins/Dragontongue.ini
SKSE/Plugins/Dragontongue/*.ini

[Mappings]
Unrelenting Force=Stamina; Shout name is placed first, along with the value to drain
Call Dragon=Health, Magicka, Stamina; Multiple values are placed with a comma between them
DLC2CycloneShout=Magicka; Editor id's can also be used instead of shout names

Requirements:
SE/AE
Address Library for SKSE Plugins
VR
VR Address Library for SKSEVR

Compatibility:
Mostly everything. Mods that change cooldowns, use expanded speech perks, add new shouts, etc., they all work together with this mod by default

Even if a shout isn't specified in any config, it'll still work properly. It will just drain a pre-selected value (like Magicka), instead of a user-defined value

The only mods that won't fit nicely (but will still load properly), are mods that dramatically change how shouts work, such as Individual Shout Cooldown Remake. Though if you do prefer to try/use one of those mods, you can always disable this one at any time without any problems

Optional Recommendations:

Shout Switch - So you can switch shouts without constant menu's, without hotkey's, without config's, etc. Just by playing the game normally
