About this mod

A vibrant ReShade preset for someone who is too lazy to install a bunch of graphics and lighting enhancement mods (me).

A personal backup. You probably don't want this.

Story time: when I switched over from Legendary to Anniversary Edition, I was absolutely burned out from modding. You know that meme about creating the perfect modlist for Skyrim before starting to play? Yeah I found out there's so many new goodies for SE now, with Community Shaders this and LUX that, and so many recommended graphics, lighting, and texture mods to make my laptop blow up, and I'm impatient so I decided not to bother with all that. "I'll play mostly vanilla," I told myself. "Spending a year to perfect my Skyrim modlist and installing all patches instead of playing the damn game is ridiculous," I said.

So I grabbed RAID Weathers (it's hella amazing), TESLight to fix some interior lighting (I think I edited it slightly to remove the distant interior fog, can't remember now), and Paraphernalia - Ambience to top it off, and my game is looking pretty decent. Not gorgeous, but playable. But I'm starting to miss the fancy schmancy graphics and I certainly don't miss vanilla's washed out gray tint that seems to be prevalent in all no-ENB interiors, so I started dabbling in ReShade. Keyword being "dabble", I still suck at it.

All exterior shots are taken with RAID Weathers.

Anyway, this is my personal (amateurish) ReShade preset, modeled after Dragon Age: Inquisition for its vibrant color scheme. Dark nights, slightly coorful shadows, subtle vignette, without being too moody or filmic or sepia-ish. Clear bright days in Solitude might look a little too saturated, but I think everywhere else looks decent. Fire looks properly orange instead of a sickly yellow, sunsets and sunrise get a little more color, etc.

It's made for vanilla (or vanilla adjacent) lighting and weather mods only. I use RAID Weathers (and this slightly brighter night patch), TESLight, and Paraphernalia - Ambience. If you have any other weather mod that has similar coloring to RAID, it might work too.

I don't use any ENB or Community Shaders. I don't use LUX, or EVLaSYes, I know, such a pleb. Not saying it can't work alongside them, just that I don't know how it'll look with them.

(I got EVLaS now. It works with it.)

Requirements/Shaders used:
Glamarye's Fast Effects for Reshade (not included with ReShade by default, get it from the link)
MartysMod's MXAO (included in iMMERSE by Marty McFly)
qUINT's Bloom (included in qUINT by Marty McFly)
Curves, Levels, Vignette (included in SweetFX shader collection)

Known issues/grievances:
  • Dark nights. I like dark nights because I'm a sucker for punishment. If you think it's too dark, grab Vanilla Nights. I'm actually tempted to use it myself.
  • MXAO tends to show up on top of sunglares, fog, mists, or bloom. If it annoys you, just disable (and you'll get a bit more performance without it too). Or use another AO shader that works better for you.
  • The bloom shader is used to soften the garish contrast under certain lighting, but it can obscure sky details (clouds, mostly) and make things too bright. Try disabling it if you don't like it.

Mods used in the screenshots, before anyone starts asking:
  • NPC overhauls shown are RedguardDiaspora's Men of Skyrim and True Sons of Skyrim. The (absolute unit) Jaree-Ra and the khajiit caravans are from SassiestAssassin's Children of the Hist and Project ja'Kha-jay. The rest are from my Ordinary People.
  • Leliana and Alistair follower by yours truly.
  • Meeko's replacer is from here :-)
  • I can't hunt links for every single armor mod pictured, but Leliana's Seeker armor is this, and Arthur Morgan's outfit is from captain-heiko's Tumblr. Jaree-Ra's outfit is here. Main dude's outfit with the tattered scarf is from VIGILANT, the rose too.
  • Everything else is from vanilla. I don't have any mesh or texture replacements for buildings, architectures, landscapes, etc (except fixes and optimizations mostly). I have most of DrJacopo's plants, though.

Why the name "Cold Haven"?
Yaknow, because it's inspired by DA:I, and "Haven" is the starting headquarters in that game, and it's cold... and I suck at making fancy titles.

Isn't this just an excuse for you to dump all of your landscape screenshots in one page?
Well, yeah.
