About this mod
Overhauls the appearance of quest NPC Anska with a high-poly head. Makes her available as a permanent follower after her quest. Additional dialogue. She is a fire mage and heals the player in combat. She has a cute pet rat.

Anska is an NPC from the base game who briefly joins you for a quest...
and then normally just stays in the quest location forever.
She can be found at High Gate Ruins; due East of Solitude across the water.

This mod makes her available as a permanent follower after her quest is done.
In addition, the quest itself is fleshed out with a little extra dialogue.
She will now mostly say stuff related to the quest during it.
As a follower, she has a lot of random chatter cleverly lifted from Mjoll the Lioness.
I increased the cooldowns of many of these random comments so they can't repeat too often.
(This also affects some of Mjoll's own lines; she won't repeat herself as much.)
I also gave her a large, adorable pet rat that follows her around and helps in combat.
Both Anska and the rat are essential and level with the player.
Anska is a fire mage and a healer, in that order.
(In testing she preferred offensive spells but would throw out the occasional heal.)
Originally, despite being a named character with unique dialogue,
Anska was not flagged as a unique NPC, and didn't even have her own face.
(She pulled her appearance from a leveled list of characters with the Female Nord voice type.)
This mod not only gives her a face, but a nice high-poly one!
I think she's cute!
Aside from the high-poly head and the hair, Anska just uses your installed body and skin textures,
so her appearance can vary based on the appearance mods you are using.
(In the screenshots I was using Leyenda Skin.)
VH1 Behind the Mod:
I first encountered Anska during one of my earliest playthroughs, and actually ran into some technical issues with her due to a mod conflict. After troubleshooting the problem, I ended up with one of the first mods I ever made for myself (and never published), a little overhaul for Anska. I piggybacked off the existing mod Anska Enhanced by terzaerian, and didn't do much more than edit the face. This was almost 10 years ago, and I was pretty new at this.
All this time, somewhere on my to-do list was this idea of doing a better Anska mod, and this is me finally getting around to it. I scrapped my old mod and built this one from the ground up... still borrowing some ideas from Anska Enhanced because that mod got a lot right, but this time with a whole lot of little tweaks of my own. Plus she looks nothing like she did in my old mod.
The first time I met Anska in-game, she had summoned a spectral rat, also due to other mods I was using. I liked that she had a rat, so I gave her a rat-summoning spell in my own mod. When I rebuilt it, I decided it should just be a regular pet rat and not a ghostly summon. But she had to have her rat!
I did not give her the flaming, exploding wolf summon spell that she gives as a quest reward. It's fun in theory, but it's actually a huge liability to have an NPC running around casting exploding wolves. 9 times out of 10 she would summon that wolf and blow up herself or me. She just got regular fire spells instead, nothing crazy. But she has enough perks to hit pretty hard.
She's set up with no assigned "outfit" but with some high-level mage robes and enchanted steel boots in her inventory. She's usually pretty good about wearing those things, but in testing she would occasionally strip naked on game load. This problem was lessened when I gave her the boots, because they have an armor rating, and usually NPCs will get dressed if there's armor to be had. Thankfully, even with these nudist tendencies, I don't have to flag this mod as adult, because it doesn't come packaged with any nude bodies. It just uses whatever you have installed.
