Well a Lich puts its soul in a phylactery to achieve Undeath. In my opinion by Skyrim terms a phylactery is a sort of specialized Soul Gem. I know that's not explicitly stated but the mechanics of Lich's in Elder Scrolls has been different from Oblivion, Skyrim and Online. One method is the stealing of souls from their vessels, like Ideal Masters in a way.
It's all a stretch I know, but not necessarily against lore either especially since the process itself has never really been spelled out and has many variations.
this could very well be a mod conflict on my end, but i seem to have 2 issues trying to run this one. 1) casting the spell does nothing 2) it adds floating grass to dragonsreach. (maybe not just there, but thats the only one i saw)
not sure why im getting floating grass, but when i loaded the mod for testing to see if it would work for me, the grass was there, when i load up a new game without this mod there is no grass when i cast the spell nothing happens, but that could be because i was just testing the mod first (as i always do when i decide to use a new one) so i hadnt actually gotten to the point in the quest yet. just coc command to soul cairn, left and picked up the tomes from valerica study. tried casting but nothing happened while in the study or after coc command to whiterun and attempting to cast there.
Hmmm.... I just wanted a spell to dispose of the most annoying NPC characters into the Soul Cairn. I was looking forward to being able to send Nazeem, Delphine, and Ancano there permanently. I didn't really wanna do Serana's quest, or even deal with Valerica. I might visit them later, mostly for humor value.
1. Do you really need to be on the quest just to get the books? 2. Could you consider putting copies of the books elsewhere as well?
I mean you could just use the console to grant yourself the spells... Immersion wise, you shouldn't be allowed to work with the soul cairn without your character learning of its existence...

I know it says it in bold red in the description page, but is there any way to circumvent the whole Chasing Echoes requirement? I use the Lich mods and I love the Soul Cairn, but get tired of joining Clan Vamp or Danwguard just to get to the place.
Well I personally love the Soul Cairn, but I hate that the thing is gated to a quest line I don't want to do. I'm hoping that someday someone adds a player home there, or that I learn enough on how to bring over a mod from LE or even to make one. Yes, I do really need it since I end up console commanding my way there and it feels so unimmersive. I also tend to play a Lich, so I just feel like its s suitable stomping ground.
Reading my own comment makes me feel really self-entitled. I mean to say if you can and its not a lot of work yeah, I'd really, really like it. But if it takes more then a few key strokes and longer then a cigarette break then I'll manage as is. Thanks regardless.

I teleport SVEN, Lucian, and a few others..
a few days later, i decide to visit the soul cairn..
Where do i find them? are they "all over" or huddled in one place- scared?
I just ask because im putting together a new modlist for a vampire type.....
