DESCRIPTION

By separating what items you can craft from how much you can temper them, Smithing becomes a lot more flexible. To achieve the greatest accomplishments as a Smith, you must go out and explore instead of crafting a thousand iron daggers in a single spot. Smithing is all about gathering and processing resources so Forgemaster adds several perks to make that easier, among many other big and small changes intended to make Smithing more fun to play.

Anniversary Edition? Optional but supported.

ESL? Yes.

Can be installed midgame? Yes.

Download, install, and endorse? Yes.

FEATURES
  • Entirely redesigned perk tree with two paths: One to increase your tempering ability and one to improve resource gathering.
  • Read Smithing Tomes to learn crafting, smelting ores and using materials effectively. Buy them from smiths or find them in hidden places.
  • Compatible with other mods that assume the vanilla perk tree because the Smithing Tomes are implemented using the vanilla perks.
  • Crafting recipes revised for better consistency and resource use.
  • Crafting recipes for previously uncraftable armors, weapons and jewelry.
  • Ores, ingots, pelts, leathers, gems, and jewelry have new weights and prices that are balanced with each other.
  • Tempering is divided into tiers: Amateur, Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert, Master, and Grandmaster I to VI.
  • Tanning and smelting earn a small amount of experience.
  • Includes patches for Anniversary Edition and USSEP.
  • Optional patch to rename Corundum, Malachite, and Quicksilver to Copper, Glass, and Mithril.

PLUGINS
  • Forgemaster.esp: The main file. You need this.
  • Forgemaster - USSEP Path.esp: Patch for the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
  • Forgemaster - AE Patch.esp: Patch for Anniversary Edition.
  • Forgemaster - Naming.esp: Renames Corundum, Malachite, and Quicksilver to Copper, Glass, and Mithril.

PERKS

Novice/Apprentice/Adept/Expert/Master Craftsman (20/40/60/80/100)
Can temper weapons and armor to Novice/Apprentice/Adept/Expert/Master quality.
  • Master is equal to Legendary.
  • Skill level does not influence item quality.

Arcane Blacksmith (30)
Can temper enchanted weapons and armor.
  • Unchanged from vanilla except the level requirement is lowered to 30.

Huntsman (30)
Felled animals and dragons yield more hide. Carrying capacity increases by 25 points.
  • Animals drop an extra hide. Dragons drop more bones and scales plus extra valuables and heart stones.

Prospector (50)
Mining yields more ore. Carrying capacity increases by 25 points.
  • Whenever you are mining, you have 50% chance of finding an additional random ore. This helps you to more easily acquire rare ore.

Industrialist (70)
Can smelt ingots and tan leathers in batches of five and ten at 20% higher yield. Carrying capacity increases by 25 points.

Forgemaster (90)
Use heart stones to temper weapons and armor up to Grandmaster IV quality.
  • If you have a heart stone in your inventory, any item you temper improves by an extra four tiers. The heart stone is consumed in the process.
  • Grandmaster quality tiers replace Fortify Smithing enchantments and potions but are less overpowered.

SMITHING TOMES

Smithing Tomes function just like Spell Tomes: You eat them to absorb their wisdom. Most can be bought, some can only be found. Smithing Tomes also confer passive bonuses to materials, so non-smiths also have a reason to collect them. Every tome can be acquired without buying them, some as quest rewards and others by finding them in hidden places.

Steel Styles
Teaches how to smelt and craft using Steel. Also teaches how to lower the Stamina cost of power attacks by 25% when wearing a suit of Steel armor.
  • Can be bought from any smith.
  • Starting from skill level 30 the experience gained from crafting Steel is halved.
  • Steel requires iron and coal to smelt, like in real life. Coal ore can be bought from smiths or acquired by mining any ore vein.

Elven Styles
Teaches how to refine and craft using Moonstone. Also teaches how to use Elven weapons to recharge their enchantments over time.
  • Can be bought from any smith starting from skill level 30.
  • Starting from skill level 50 the experience gained from crafting Elven is halved.
  • Dark Elf armors require this tome and competing the Dragonborn quest (the quest that brings you to Solstheim).

Dwarven Styles
Teaches how to smelt and craft using Dwarven Metal. Also teaches how to deal 50% more damage against constructs with Dwarven weapons.
  • Dwemer scholars believe that a Dwarven Smithing Tome may still be hidden somewhere in the Dwarven ruins.
  • Starting from skill level 50 the experience gained from crafting Dwarven is halved.

Orcish Styles
Teaches how to smelt and craft using Orichalcum. Also teaches how to stagger enemies 25% more with Orcish weapons.
  • Can be bought from any smith starting from skill level 50.
  • Starting from skill level 70 the experience gained from crafting Orcish is halved.

Nordic Styles
Teaches how smelt and craft using Copper and Mithril. Also teaches how to recover Shouts 20% faster when wearing a suit of any Nordic armor.
  • Can be bought from any smith starting from skill level 50.
  • Starting from skill level 70 the experience gained from crafting Nordic is halved.
  • Required to craft Steel Plate, Scaled, Nordic Carved, and Silver (AE).

Glass Styles
Teaches how to refine and craft using Glass. Also teaches how to wear a suit of Glass armor without becoming encumbered and deal 50% more sneak attack damage with Glass weapons.
  • Can be bought from any smith starting from skill level 70.
  • Starting from skill level 90 the experience gained from crafting Glass is halved.

Ebony Styles
Teaches how to refine and craft using Ebony. Also teaches how to reduce incoming stagger by 50% when wearing a suit of Ebony armor.
  • Can be bought from any smith starting from skill level 70.
  • Starting from skill level 90 the experience gained from crafting Ebony is halved.

Daedric Styles
Teaches how to craft Daedric. Also teaches how to deal 25% more power attack damage with Daedric weapons.
  • Can only be acquired by consorting with Daedra.
  • Required to smelt and craft Amber, Madness, Gold and Dark armors from the Saints and Seducers creation.

Dragon Styles
Teaches how to craft using Dragon bones and scales. Also teaches how to deal 50% more damage against dragons with Dragonbone weapons.
  • The Blades are rumored to possess the last copy.

Jewelry Styles
Teaches how to smelt and craft using Silver and Gold. Also teaches how to use Silver weapons to deal 50% more damage against lycanthropes and undead.
  • Can be bought from any smith.
  • Silver weapons now only deal their bonus damage after reading this tome but this bonus scales and applies to Werebears and reanimated undead.

Fur, Hide, Leather, Iron Styles
No tome is needed to craft these. Wear a suit of armor made of any of these materials to gain a 5% speed boost.
  • Starting from skill level 30 the experience gained from crafting Fur, Hide, Leather and Iron is halved.

CRAFTING RECIPES

All crafting recipes have been revised for consistency and resource use. There are too many changes to list but most items need more, but not an overwhelming amount of, resources to craft. Missing recipes for wooden weapons, Fur and Hide armors, circlets and unenchanted variants of the vampire jewelry from Dawnguard have been added. You can also craft faction armors once the appropriate requirements have been met.

CONFIGURATION

To disable quest requirements for crafting recipes(you still need the appropriate Smithing Tome):
set hjsmquestrequirementsenabled to 0

To disable experience gain penalties:
set hjsmexperiencepenaltiesenabled to 0

To disable Fortify Smithing enchantments and potions (to solve an incompatibility for instance):
set hjsmfortifysmithingenabled to 0

Not compatible with mods that change crafting recipes or the Smithing perk tree, like Complete Crafting Overhaul Remastered or Smithing Perks Overhaul.

Compatible with overhauls like Adamant or Vokrii if you don't mind Forgemaster overwriting their changes to Smithing perks. In the case of Adamant, you'll automatically receive the Arcane Blacksmith perk.
