If you want to create a translation, and/or are using Skyrim in another language:
The DLL file loads your settings from the .toml file named SLAAD_Config.toml. All lines beginning with one or more # symbols are comments / notes, and will not be loaded by the DLL. You can add new lines, replace existing lines' texts, or remove them altogether.
The prefixes (or suffixes) to be added to the mod can be replaced with your own texts. Currently, all numbers and English characters are supported, and traditional Chinese is supported (should also be true for Japanese, simplified Chinese), at least on Traditional Chinese Skyrim installations (confirmed by user). I don't know about other languages / writing systems. In case of doubt, try and see if it works.
DO NOT change the names of the settings themselves (e.g. TomeName01_Novice), or the DLL will fail to work as intended! You CAN, however, change the string to be added (e.g. "1 Novice -") to anything you like; but please use only true or false for the prefix/suffix setting.
Previously I've used DisplaySpellTomeLevelPatcher within the Synthesis patcher, which allows for you to list the <level>, <spell>,<plugin>, and/or <school> that the spell is. Is that capability in this mod at the time? If not, is it a feature that you have thought about or planning to add? I'd love to cut down on any amount of esp patching I have to do whenever I start a new game lol
I thought of the other labels too but decided to not do it. This is because there are already fully-fledged mods / frameworks that support most of those.
In the screenshots I uploaded, the spell tomes already have school-specific icons, and they are already grouped by schools. This is thanks to a few mods combined: the Spell Tomes I4 Icons by IAmNotSimon (and for Darenii's mods, use Gensicc's I4 icon mods, they are so very good), Aura's Inventory Tweaks + B.O.O.B.I.E.S. + Object Categorization Framework, and all their dependencies.
I could do an extra version that has all these combined, but there are mods that do it perfectly already :)
I definitely understand not wanting to implement it because other mods already have their versions! I personally have a naming convention of
"<level>'s <school> Spell of <spell>" That way I'm able to use SkyUI's search function to specifically find Adept's Conjuration/Master's Alteration/Novice's Restoration mods so that I don't have to scroll through. I also already use all of the mods you've listed already, but extra sorting is always welcomed in my modlist. Thanks for the reply; great mod! :)
I was JUST thinking about this problem yesterday as I was buying spells, as I have Odin, Forgotten Magic, Triumvirate, Natura, and a handful of other spell mods. Amazing, thanks! I also saw that you're the author of the Scarves of Skyrim SPID mod, which I have been enjoying a lot. I look forward to your future work!
Not because you're bad but because Unslaad and stuff is actually busting.
oh also this mod is amazing ty for making it i was literally just thinking how frustrating it was looking through spell tomes and not knowing the spell level this is a literal garbage game smh
Tbh, I'm still working on my first Vigilant playthrough, but pretty much everyone (and by that I mean everyone) says the trilogy is quite emotionally heavy, the kind of stuff that can break even a dragonborn. I'm procrastinating now because fine wine deserves to be tasted slow, but also because I'm still holding out for Vicn to (hopefully) finish Glenmoril.

An updated version has been added. This one also supports adding SCHOOL. Now you can make it look like this:
Destruction Master - Spell Tome - Bethesda's Updates
Or, if you want LEVEL to go first (customizable in the INI), can also look like this:
Master Destruction - Spell Tome - Bethesda's Updates
Screenshots upcoming, but the file should be downloadable right away.
Thanks for the idea & convincing!

Maybe I am wrong but it seems that "TomeSchoolSetting_ShouldAppearFirst = false" doesn't work. :/
Edit : my bad, i was modifying the ### section...
Joke aside, this gonna be a must have. thank for your work.
