If you have ever been to a farm, what city people think is 'hay' is actually straw, and what you see in Skyrim and this mod is straw. Good quality hay has some green plant chlorophyll component for nutrients, while straw is 'blond' and only used for 'bedding' to soak up urine and feces inside the barn.
Flatness like this generally happens when using a program like Crazy Bump, because it's only really generating a "faked" normal from a 2D image. True normals are baked from high polygon models.
Inspecting your files, it would appear the Normal Map is wayyy too dark and that could be why it appears flat in game (no lighting information to work with)
Also, you have a lot of visible seams because you did not make the texture seamless!
how is this extremely flat ? i see nothing flat about it , nothing too dark at least with my enb i can barely see some seams but i would never notice it if i havent read it.
Well first off, I generated the normal map using photoshop (yeah it was from a 2D image), so if you're looking for an amazing 3D hay texture you've come to the wrong guy (I don't know anything about 3D work. Second, I did fix the normal map brightness. And third, have you ever tried making a hay texture completely seamless?? Not saying it's not possible, it's just time consuming as heck! If you don't like it, make your own. Which, I might add, would probably look a lot better than mine given your experience. (BTW Big fan of a couple of your mods! )
The seam might only be fixable with a better UV map, sounds like a lot of work for some hay. That seems the case with a lot of Beth stuff, make a noticeable improvement to something and it shows up another problem: vanilla Skyrim is 'OK' and works but once you start improving anything you want it all better.
In this instance, the seam would be very easy to fix as the entire UV island just seems to be one block. You'd just have to take a section from each edge, take it to the opposing edge, flip it and blend it in. Sounds cheap but you would have no immediately visible line.
Your normal map should be something like the following, compare it's brightness with your own. https://learnopengl.com/img/advanced-lighting/normal_mapping_normal_map.png
@mathy79, I think you misunderstood what sort of "flat" I meant. I didn't mean in terms of colour.

gonna retexture it in 8k with clorophyll.
To complete this mod:
textures\clutter\skeevernest01.ddsthis could be a dirtier version of your normal hay retexture.
textures\_byoh\clutter\_byohstraw01.dds
