About this mod

This is the successor to my now obsolete Curse of the Dragonborn mod. Same principle: you can play as both a Vampire (or Vampire Lord) and a Werewolf. The difference is this mod is much more compatible with available Vampire and Werewolf overhauls like Growl or Better Vampires and doesn't change any scripts.

Overview
This is the successor to my now obsolete Curse of the Dragonborn mod. Same principle: you can simultaneously play as both a Vampire (or Vampire Lord) and a Werewolf. This isn't possible in Vanilla Skyrim, because if you've already become a Werewolf through the Companions questline and Harkon or Serana turn you into a Vampire, you're normally cured of Lycanthropy.  And vice versa, if you've already become a Vampire Lord through the Dawnguard questline and you then become a Werewolf while with the Companions, you would be cured of Vampirism in the Vanilla system. With this mod, you will no longer be cured of either Vampirism or Lycanthropy.

The difference to this mod's predecessor is that this new mod is much more compatible with available Vampire and Werewolf overhauls like Growl or Better Vampires and doesn't change any scripts. Vampire and Werewolf attributes and mechanics will be those dictated by what you're using, be that through the Vanilla system, or be that via overhaul mods. Meaning, contrary to mods like True Hybrid, this mod doesn't change anything in regard to how you become a Vampire or Werewolf, or what your appearance or behavior will be when transformed. It only grants you the possibility to play as both.

I've also added an MCM that displays your current status (i.e. Vampire, Vampire Lord, and Werewolf) and the number or necks you've bitten as a Vampire. The MCM also allows you to become a Vampire (or Vampire Lord) as well as a Werewolf, and you'll find options to cure you of Vampirism and Lycanthropy.

There's a patch available for Better Vampires, but all it does is ensure you can't transform into a Werewolf while you're in your Vampire Lord form.

What This Mod Does
When you start your game for the first time after installing this mod, you'll receive new abilities that monitor your status as a Vampire or Werewolf. These abilities will only become active it your status changes, meaning the mod is very lightweight and doesn't use any notable system resources.

When you become a Vampire or Werewolf, or if you already are one or the other when installing this mod, you'll see your status in your Magic Inventory in the Active Effects list (press P on your keyboard). Depending on whether you're a Vampire, a Werewolf, or both, you will see up to two new constant effects:

  • Resist Cure Lycanthropy
  • Resist Cure Vampirism

As long as these effects remain active, you can no longer be cured of Vampirism or Lycanthropy. So, if you're already a Werewolf, becoming a Vampire will not cure you of Lycanthropy. Vice versa, if you're already a Vampire, becoming a Werewolf will not cure you of Vampirism. If you've already completed both the Companions quest line and the Dawnguard quest line and have already been cured of the one or the other, you can return to either Aela to be re-gifted with Lycanthropy and become a Werewolf, or you can return to Serana to be re-gifted with Sanguinare Vampiris and become a Vampire Lord. In either case, when you're re-gifted with the one, you won't be cured of the other. If you install a Vampire or Werewolf overhaul mod, you will probably have the choice of letting the mod turn you into a Vampire or Werewolf, or you have the option to do so from the MCM included with this mod.

What This Mod Does NOT Do
This mod doesn't create any new races, change your appearance, skills, and powers, or change how you become a Vampire or Werewolf in any way. Normally, you will still go through the regular channels to become either. This means to become a Werewolf, you have the following possibilities:

  • Follow the Companions quest line and acquire the Beast Blood
  • Install a Werewolf overhaul mod, such as spwned's Moonlight Tales Mini, which is spwned's new and more compatible version of the older Moonlight Tales. With MTM, you can use the tools section of the MTM menu to become a Werewolf
  • As a third option, you can use the MCM included with this mod to become a Werewolf

To become a Vampire, you have these possibilities:

  • Follow the Dawnguard quest line and let yourself get bitten by Lord Harkon or Serana
  • Become infected with Sanguinare Vampiris and wait for three days
  • Install a Vampire overhaul mod, such as Brehanin's Better Vampires, which has options that allow you to become a Vampire
  • As a last option, you can use the MCM included with this mod to become a Vampire or Vampire Lord

Requirements
This mod requires the following mods:

  • SkyUI (for the MCM)

The Curse of the Dragonborn - REDUX will not run correctly without it!

Compatibility
This mod doesn't change any scripts and is therefore very compatible with most Vampire or Werewolf overhauls I've looked at, provided they use the same scripts to transform the player as the Vanilla system.

Recommended Mods:

Installation
It's completely possible to install this mod in a running game. I always recommend using a mod manager (my preference is Mod Organizer 2). For a manual installation, copy the contents of the mod into your Skyrim Special Edition's Data folder.

In your load order, ensure any overhauls are loaded AFTER Curse of the Dragonborn - REDUX. So, your load order should look something like this:

  • OPHybrid.esp (this is the ESP of the Curse of the Dragonborn - REDUX mod)
  • Moonlight Tales Mini.esp
  • Better Vampires.esp
  • OPHybrid - Better Vampires Patch.esp (only necessary to ensure you won't turn into your Werewolf Beast Form while in your Vampire Lord Beast Form, for instance during Lunar Transformations)

Naturally, the OPHybrid.esp and the patch are both ESL-flagged and won't take up any slots in your load order.

Uninstallation
Again, please use a mod manager to uninstall this mod. Otherwise, you'll need to remove the OPHybrid.esp and the OPHybrid_*.pex scripts from your Data folder. There should be no issue uninstalling during a running game.

MCM
The mod comes with an MCM that allows you to either become a Vampire or Werewolf, or to cure yourself. While this mod is installed, the cure options in the MCM are the ONLY way to cure yourself of Lycanthropy or Vampirism during a running game.
