Skyrim Special Edition

This questions (and exclamations!) and answers document is a mixture of questions I am being asked often, questions I often see asked of other mods, and topics I wanted to expound upon.

Will you make an Oldrim/Skyrim LE version of this mod?
I am afraid not.  There is currently no known safe way to port mods from SE back to LE.

Will you make this mod compatible with Immersive or Magical College of Winterhold?
No, that is not possible. These are all overhauls with very different visions. Trying to combine them would undermine the intentions of the mods' authors.

Can I edit this mod to work with the College Overhaul mod of my choice?
You may, of course, edit any mod on your harddrive in any way that you see fit. Sharing this creation is not permitted, however.

Will this mod be ported to consoles?
At this time, I would rather not.  I may reevaluate some day.

May I translate this mod?
Certainly, but be advised that there may still be several major updates in the future, so you may want to wait for the mod to be declared "finished".

There's floating doorways is in the middle of the stair halls.
This has some potential causes.
1) It could mean that you installed OCW on a save-game which was already inside of Winterhold. The installation instructions ask you not to do so. It's OK, I understand. ^^
2) Another mod, which I am not aware of, is editing those doors, either intentionally or through an ITM or wild edit, and that mod is loaded after OCW.
3) A generated plugin such as a Bashed Patch, DynDOLOD, or xLODGen, has edited the records for those doors.  The best way to solve this is to manually resolve the conflicts in SSEEdit.  If you're not comfortable with that, then whichever of these plugins is causing the conflict must be rebuilt.

Is this mod compatible with my favorite mods?
Please check out the Installation and Compatibility Guide for a full breakdown on compatibility. If you see something missing from the list, you may let me know! (In the Posts section please, not the Bugs section. ^^)

I see that this mod conflicts with another of my mods.  Will you make a patch?
I can try!  Please keep in mind that some mods have many different versions and installation options, so when contacting me about it please be as specific as possible.  Also note that that Skyrim places some data in your save game, so if you have a game in progress, the conflict that you're seeing may be already permanently in your save.  If I make a fix, you may still have to load an earlier game to get the benefits.  Also, as a rule of thumb, I'll only be making compatibility patches for other lore-friendly mods.  Finally, please contact me concerning mod conflicts in the Post section, not the Bugs section.

Where should I put this mod in my load order?
Information on load order is at the bottom of my article, Installation and Compatibility Guide. They're pretty simple!

Help!  This mod broke my game!
I sure hope not!  Due to the nature of Skyrim Modding, it's impossible for me to replicate the exact conditions of your game, which makes troubleshooting problems like this impossible for me.  The best thing you can do is share your load order in the Posts section, and hopefully I or another player will be able to spot the issue. Please do not share issues like this in the Bugs section, which should be reserved for problems with the mod itself, not with issues that have arisen from your own unique setup.

Can I safely merge your patches to reduce my load order?
I actually don't know (probably?), because I haven't looked at merging patches ever since the ESL and ESP-FE plugin types have made that unnecessary.  If you're still merging plugins, I highly recommend you look into these formats.

Where can I learn more about ESL or ESP-FE?
My own introduction to the topic was this long and detailed (but humorous) article.  If that's overwhelming, here's a primer:  These mods do not count towards the strict load order limit, but rather a separate upper limit of around four thousand.

Does your mod have tags for Wyre Bash or Mator Smash?
As of 1.3.5 I've included bash tags that will work with Mator Smash and Wyre Bash. I don't have a ton of experience with these tags, so if you see anything wrong or that could be improved, please get in touch.

I already use Immersive College of Winterhold. Why should I change to your College Overhaul?
I've used ICoW extensively myself, so I'm a big fan of it and highly recommend it to anyone.  If you're weighing the alternatives, I can only suggest that you check out my list of features and videos and weigh your options.

Is it safe to switch from ICoW to OCW in a game in progress?
Technically speaking, if you're currently using ICoW then you can't uninstall it at all without starting a new game, as it (like my mod) adds some data to your save game which will persist and conflict even after the mod is uninstalled.  Extensive overhauls like these are not safe to uninstall mid-playthrough, and it's even less safe to switch to another overhaul after uninstalling.

Does this mod make Tolfdir the Arch-Mage rather than the player?
No, it does not, but my other mod, Choose Your Own Arch-Mage offers a broad selection of Arch-Mage candidates.

What other mods do you recommend I use with OCW?
You may find a list of recommendations at the top of my article, Installation and Compatibility Guide.

What mods are featured in your screenshots?
I maintain a list of all mods visible in any screenshot at the bottom of the mod's main page.

I found typos in your mod.  Will you fix them?
It's very kind of you to call it a typo. It's probably an honest misspelling!  But in any case, yes.

Will you add this feature idea I have to your mod?
Tell it to me and we'll see.  :) (As long as you're OK with me saying no. ^^)

Are you going to do anything else with the Midden or the courtyard?
Maybe! Who knows? You can find out what my current plans are on the Roadmap.

Thelsa Andalas doesn't speak all of her lines.  Is the mod broken?
No, this is sadly normal.  Not all voice sets contain all lines, and Dunmer female is missing a few Winterhold specific lines which the game will nevertheless try to play.  This will also be true of some of the new students added by OCW and Immersive College NPCs.

Can you make the new apprentices your mod adds into followers?
I would rather not try to go down that road, but that doesn't mean the answer is no.  Mods such as Nether's Follower Framework include the option to make any NPC a follower.

Can I marry one of the new students your mod adds?
While I did try to make all of my new NPCs super cute, I have never had any interest in Skyrim's marriage features, so I don't plan to make any of my NPCs marriageable.

Noo!  Dra'ba Tovi is dead!  Why didn't you set your new NPCs to essential? :(
I'm sorry!  I believe that for the most authentic and interesting experience, sometimes you need to let NPCs die.  It enriches the narrative for each playthrough.
