Skyrim Special Edition

This is a repository for issues previously maintained in the Legacy FAQ for v5, but have been fixed in the update previous to the current version and are now retired from that page.  It is provided here as a courtesy for "update stragglers" and as an archive for the Legacy team.

Eriana's "special orders" dialogue is missing voice.
(fixed in 5.6.3)
Voice files for this new feature were added in the wrong path. If you extract the "sound\voice\dbm_icepack_5.5.8.esp\uniquefemaleeriana" folder from the main Legacy BSA and add it to "sound\voice\LegacyoftheDragonborn.esm\uniquefemaleeriana" instead, it will work properly.

I notice the Full Guide says I cannot use an old save file (version 4.X) from before I updated to version 5.X. Why?

The changes made between between version 5 and previous major releases were substantial and touched literally everything in the mod; quests, scripting, worldspace edits... you name it. Knowing folks would be disappointed to lose a cherished save, we did test to be thorough. In short, running a v4 save on the v5 museum resulted in a horribly broken and unsalvageable game. If you are updating from v4, new game from the new game button on the main menu.

Much Ado About Snow Elves won't start
This has been fixed in v5.5.3 of Legacy.
There is a hidden book inside the temple of the divines which some mods will make accessible and players with sticky fingers or auto looters will grab it prematurely. You need to look and see if you have a copy of 'Encyclopedia Bretonica: the Gods Vol 9' in your storage or inventory and drop it inside the temple of the nine divines and then go about your business. The quest will start normally from that point. If you do not have this specific reference of the book, the quest cannot be started. (no you cannot console one in, it won't work for the quest).

Cannot complete Shadows of One's Past
This has been fixed in v5.5.5 of Legacy.
In some cases, Avram will not complete his dialogue with the player after killing Jelal and all the bandits, leaving the quest stuck.  To fix it, open the console and type "setstage dbm_museumheist 45" (without the quotes) and hit enter.  Close the console.  Note: this fix may also be necessary for games upgraded to 5.5.5 depending on quest progression.

I bought receipts from Bits and Pieces for filling out my safehouse but don’t see the furnishings
This has been changed in v5.4.4 of Legacy.
The mechanism has been changed and no longer simply displays furniture when you buy the receipts; interact with the planner in the safehouse.  Note: if you have been using Legacy of the Dragonborn - Furniture Management, this mod is now obsolete (in fact it has been removed from the Nexus) as the functions have been rolled into Legacy.

I have 2 Auryens in the museum!
This has been fixed in v5.4.4 of Legacy.
In 5.3 a change to Auryen's faction settings causes the "shadows of one's past" instance of Auryen to get targeted by the museum tour script and has him come to attend the tour by his other self. Updating will solve this problem.

CTD when using Arkayn's Toolbag
This has been fixed in v5.4.2 of Legacy.
This crash is caused by use of an X Box controller on PC. Avoid using the controller when utilizing the bag menu options.

Thane rewards are not giving the Legacy Thane Weapons Reborn items
This has been fixed in v5.4 of Legacy.
As of V5.3.3 the Thane weapon delivery script was broken. A fix is available for download on the updates section, which includes a script that you should add to your Legacy installation or add as its own entry in your mod management program.  For the fix to work on a game in progress you will have to save your game with this new script loaded update to the latest version of Legacy then reload for it to fire an update that will clear the issue. If the fix does not work for games in progress, people will need to console in the thane weapons using the form ID's form this list (replace the first two digits with your Legacy load order index): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15wsb9ml9q3irk-uWok7ZqU-yIEEnC2uq9-WPwl72WSI/edit#gid=0

Museum Entrance - The front door is missing or misaligned, there is a wall in front of it, or a tree is growing right in front of the door
For builds that started in v4, make sure if you upgraded from Legacy v4 to v5 (should have been deleting v4 completely and then installing v5 fresh) that there are no leftover v4 files. That last thing often happens with people who formerly had NMM and then upgraded to Vortex (very messy). As a rule, since v5 was released 12/2019, if you have a Legacy patch dated from before then the patch was built for v4 and should be deleted.

Museum Entrance - Stairs are Missing
Mod and patch have been removed from Nexus by the author.  Mod is no longer supported.
This is caused by the user not correctly installing the Open Cities Skyrim Patch (maintained on that mod's page). Altering your load order mid-game is never a good idea, but certain mods/patches will have more pronounced problems than others, of which OCS is one.  The only solution is to either install the patch or remove OCS; in either case, start a new game afterwards.

Front door of museum is locked
This has been fixed in v5.3.3 of Legacy.
If you have completed the haunted museum quest and gained access to the museum again but have come back to find it locked again, this is likely a bug in upgrading to v5.3.2. We are still investigating the issue but in the meantime if the quest has been completed and the door is locked, it is safe to console click on the door and type UNLOCK to get back in.

Shadows of One's Past and Night at the Museum quests start at the same time
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy.
One quest starts at 300 displays, another starts at 400 displays. If you have under 300 displays and place enough displays to bring the count over 400, the quests can fire simultaneously which can cause the quests to break. Simply reload your game and make sure one quest initiates (over 300 displays) before advancing displays over 400.

Night at the museum items are still marked as quest items after the quest ends.
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy.
Update or wait 24 hours.

Sudden drop in framerate in the Safehouse
The Legacy part fixed in 5.3.3. This is usually because you are too close to an object that was created from a scaled down much larger object, most notably near the supply sorting cubicles.  A similar affect can be seen if you stand too close to a relatively full Amulets of Skyrim display in the Hall of Heroes.  In both cases the drop is temporary and will revert to normal when you move away.

Snow Elf Chime #9 is missing from the Falmer tent in the temple of the venerable ones
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy. Chime was mistakenly put on the disable list for the chime system reset. If the chime is not present when you go to find it, use the console to enable:
Type "PRID XX24729B" (without the quotes and replace XX with legacy's index in your load order) and hit enter.
Type "ENABLE" (again without the quotes) and hit enter.  close the console

Micmou's Shovel won't display
This has been fixed in V5.3.1of Legacy. If the issue persists after 5.3.1 you must clean the instance of DBMDisplayScript xx084151, where xx is the load order prefix for Legacy in your game.

Windcaller Pass Progression issue
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy. After getting the Windcaller relics, the scene trigger at the fallen column which progresses the quest does not properly enable. Update Legacy or use the console:
Type "PRID XX4DBF88" (without the quotes and replace XX with legacy's index in your load order) and hit enter.
Type "ENABLE" (again without the quotes) and hit enter.  Close the console.
You can then walk over to the pillar and once Kyre and Marassi get close the scene will fire properly.

Ezra won't talk to me when I find her
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy. If you pickpocket and read Argus' journal before meeting Ezra her conditions to talk to you won't be met. Either kill her or pickpocket her and move on or wait for the next update. The next update will address this and will work on games in progress.

Ghosthelm stuck to the mantle
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy.  This issue no longer occurs in new games, but games upgraded which are in progress will need to clean the script instance of DBM_DynamicDisplayScript xx82724C (replace xx with your Legacy load index). This will refresh the script controlling the helm so you can grab it properly.

Visage of the Dragonborn - not able to craft three enchantments on an item
This has been fixed in v5.3.1 of Legacy.  Cause: A mod conflict (specific mod unknown currently), which alters how the vanilla Enchantment perk works or adds another which sets the enchantment count TO 2 instead of adding +1.   More information will be provided when it becomes available, but until that happens you will have to do a "divide and conquer" strategy to identify the source of your conflict.

Quest displays statues for the Immersive College of Winterhold (ICOW) appear to float
This has been fixed in the 2.0 version of the patches.  This happens because one or more mods in your load order are overwriting vanilla texture files (Majestic Mountains is a common offender) that ICOW is looking for.  These two files: \textures\landscape\mountains\mountainslab01.dds\textures\landscape\mountains\mountainslab01_n.dds are responsible for the problem.

Denstagmer's Ring not Enabling (quest marker points to an empty space)
This has been fixed in v5.2 of Legacy.  If you already were on the quest to get the three initial relics when you upgraded to 5.2 or later, Denstagmer's ring doesn't enable. This is not an issue on new games or for anyone starting the quest AFTER upgrading. To be perfectly clear: the lockbox is SUPPOSED TO BE disabled until you are on the quest from Auryen to go find it or if you have started via the Relic Hunter addon or the Relic hunter LAL dock start, the box will be enabled properly.

For those who find a marker but no item, open the console:
Type "PRID XX6BDFA8" (without the quotes and replace XX with legacy's index in your load order) and hit enter.
Type "ENABLE" (again without the quotes) and hit enter.  Close the console.

Additionally, if you started your game prior to this fix and already obtained Denstagmer's ring before being sent to find it by Auryen, you can complete the quest only if you have all three items that Auryen sent you to get. The quest objective to find the ring will not update until the end when you turn all of the items in.

Sorter chest for Daedric artifacts in Deepholme doesn't work
This has been fixed in v5.2 of Legacy.  A known problem brought about by changes made to the mechanics for the museum's sorting system.  Update Legacy or leave the relics in the museum or stash them in persistent storage elsewhere (like the safehouse).

Visage of the Dragonborn - armor not working
This has been fixed in v5.0.32 of Legacy. If you updated the mod around V5.0.32 and the armor abilities no longer apply, simply use the dragonsoul forge to convert the set to another weight and then back again and the set will once again function. You will have to re-apply any custom enchantments and tempering, but the scripted abilities will once again apply properly.

Byron comes out of nowhere and starts Shattered Legacy
This has been fixed in v5.0.27 of Legacy.  There was a glitch in an earlier version where Shattered Legacy started spontaneously rather than when Auryen gave you the sword of ancient tongues. If this happens prior to upgrading to V5.0.27, DO NOT obtain the Lord's mail until instructed to do so during Shattered Legacy. It's also advised that you wait on progressing the quest any further until Auryen gives you the sword.

Shattered Legacy Lord's Mail stage issues
This has been fixed in v5.0.27 of Legacy. If you acquire the Lord's mail while Shattered Legacy is in progress BUT before you are sent to find it, you are out of date and should update to the most recent version of the mod and revert to a save prior to acquiring the Lord's mail otherwise the quest is irrecoverable.
This has been fixed in v5.0.27 of Legacy. If you get the Lord's Mail before Shattered Legacy starts, you should be fine but may have to set stage 266 unless you started your current game on version 5.0.27 or later. Games started on this version or later should experience no issues.

If you are sent to get the Lord's mail during Shattered Legacy and the quest does not progress after acquiring it for the first time, console
SETSTAGE DBM_SHATTEREDLEGACY 266.  If all else fails, if you have the Lord's Mail and Wulfharth's treads, console SETSTAGE DBM_SHATTEREDLEGACY 270 to continue.

Paintings display badly - overlapping or at angles
This has been fixed in v5.0.27 of Legacy. You have a couple options based on Skyrim's engine. Please know you're responsible for your own game if you mess anything up trying to do any of these. We cannot provide support beyond this. This is it.

Option 1) Go wait in Whiterun for 30 days. Stay out of the museum for that long. Let Skyrim's engine do a reset.
Paintings should be fine. If no luck, proceed to option 2.

Option 2) Open the console. Click on the offending painting on the wall. Type disable. Then enable. If the painting disappears and then on enable reappears, you definitely have the correct painting selected, and not any other effect items or alternate objects. Once confirmed you've got the painting selected, type RecycleActor. Painting will reset to the newsize/location on the wall. If it doesn't immediately work, you may be accidentally clicking a fog or smoke effect. You need to make sure it's definitely the painting you're messing with. If still no luck, proceed to option 3.

Option 3) Start a new game. This will ALWAYS work. Persistent references are only persistent within their specific save character. But if you're dead set on keeping your current save, you can consider option 4.

Option 4) THIS OPTION IS NOT RECOMMENDED. NO SUPPORT WILL BE PROVIDED FOR PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE THIS COURSE OF ACTION. By
taking this action, you are taking responsibility for the results. If you do this and ruin your save, that's on you. Loss of items or gear is your responsibility with this one. Decide if your paintings being aligned is worth this much to you. Doing this wrong (or even in some cases doing it right) can delete items from the game entirely. Now, if you're determined to persist:
Dangerous Steps For Option 4 (PLEASE read all of the above first in case you just skipped down):

  • Empty all vanilla-style mannequins/weapon racks in the Hall of Heroes and the Eastern Exhibit Halls. Failure to do this will result in item loss upon the next steps, so save yourself the headache.
  • Remove anything from the safe chest in the front hall of the Hall of Heroes, and the deliveries chest from the back prep room (and any other storage you may have used in here). Same reason as step 1.
  • Remove display items so these are safe too. They should be alright during a reset, given how legacy displays work, but better safe than sorry. Again, if you choose not to do this and lose anything as a result of this, that's on you now.
  • Hobble to Whiterun extremely over-encumbered. Do NOT put any of these items into storage/actors/etc connected to Legacy.
  • In Whiterun, open the console. The command you will enter will reset the Hall of Heroes and the Eastern Exhibit Halls by force. Anything that does not begin/belong in this cell will be DELETED FROM THE GAME (which is why this is dangerous). Everything else will be reset (including possibly displays you have already done). PLEASE BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS BEFORE YOU DO IT. THERE IS NO GOING BACK HERE. ARE YOUR PAINTINGS WORTH THIS MUCH TO YOU? If yes, proceed.
  • Type this (hit enter between each line)

Return to the museum and put your stuff back. If anything's weird, we can't fix it. If anything's lost, we can't get it back and it's just lost. Remember by opting to take this option, you chose the dangerous route, and we warned you beforehand.

Only you can decide how important this is to you and which of these steps you're willing to take the risk to try. We're not providing further support beyond this.
