so the black face bug is basically caused by texture conflicts, but where do these conflicts come from?

the first type of conflicts come from body re-placers

(this is usually in the form of trying to use texture re-placers that conflict with one another)

(this can also be caused by using the wrong body textures)

(what i had said previously on head meshes was incorrect, while using relationship dialogue overhaul i frequently had ctd's which i discovered was being caused by the head meshes so i had deleted them. i later discovered this was a mistake because the mod adds in a couple of npc's, i was able to fix the problem by reprocessing the head meshes with cathedral, and converting the textures to bc7 which ironically fixed the black face issue that often occurs with this mod)

(but the most common cause usually happens when the person allows these body textures to overwrite custom npc's that are either added in as followers or by mods that add in custom player homes that have custom npc's and followers that should not be overwrote by any custom body or any custom body texture)

the second type of conflicts come from mods that use randomly generated files

(part of the problem comes from mod authors that port their mods from oldrim, because they will use the randomly generated face textures because these randomly generated files were not meant to be used)

(in some cases these randomly generated files exist in some oldrim mods, and the reason for this is because most mod authors did not bother to get rid of the files or simply did not know that the randomly generated files would cause the face bug. also some mods had already been made before anyone had known about the problem or what caused it)
