This is a simple batch file I created for myself :) It allows map markers to be enabled and available for fast travel... look in the file for locations I've added. Releasing it here in case anyone else finds it useful.
I'll add a few more locations here including DLC's that I think might be useful to me or if I get asked for them.
;---------------------------------- ; Of course to use these you must have the Dragonborn DLC. ; Just replace the xx with the load order of your Dragonborn DLC then add them to the batch file. ;---------------------------------- ; All-Maker Stones - DLC DragonBorn ;---------------------------------- ;ShowMap xx0143e3 1 ;Beast Stone ;ShowMap xx0143e4 1 ;Earth Stone ;ShowMap xx0143e5 1 ;Sun Stone ;ShowMap xx0143e6 1 ;Water Stone ;ShowMap xx0143e7 1 ;Wind Stone ;ShowMap xx0143ca 1 ;Tree Stone
I normally just do "tmm 1" in the console and get ALL locations on the map...and I can fast travel to them. Sure helps when you start a new game and have to go from Riverwood to DragonsReach to tell the Jarl of the dragon, and then to Bleak falls barrow to get the dragonstone....of course it helps with any other place you want to get to ..fast! I can however see where its a help to have just towns first then you can "discover" places from there!
Yes TMM will enable every single map marker... not what I wanted.to do :D
and because you can control which get activated with this batch file you don't even have to activate all the cities or towns if you don't want to. Read my reply to masternoxx to know why I do it this way.
But seriously... I nearly always play now with the mod "Alternate Start - Live Another Life" and set my player up with starting stats of around lvl20 (use a web site for that) and run a batch file to give my player what I think he/she would already have... I also set it so Dragons don't appear until lvl 60+ which is the lvl where I usually stop that play through. I also totally ignore the main quest as far as possible... and play as if I'm not the Dragonborn but able to use shouts without dragon souls. So I feel that such a player would have been around the block a few times and would already know where all the main cities, towns and inns were. Oh and wherever possible I always fast travel so as NOT to accidentally discover anywhere new... for that I will deliberately set out to roam an area with discovery in mind... Yes a radical play style... give it a try you never know you might discover a totally new game.
So for the way I now play this batch file make perfect sense to me... but hey use it or don't that's your choice :)
If you are interested in playing the way as above and would like a bit more info on how I set it up drop me a PM :)
Did you put it in the right directory as explained in the the description and the file itself ? "Just extract the text file into your main skyrim directory, that is the one where skyrim.esm is." Not the Data sub directory...

You know you are supposed to buy that horse in whiterun, it makes nearby travel faster.
