ATTENTION: when updating from older versions to v.1.2+, do a clean install:

    1. Enter "stopquest hznecrquest" w/o quotes in console and save the game.
    2. Exit Skyrim, uninstall NECR files.
    3. Start Skyrim, load the last save and save again.
    4. Exit Skyrim, install new NECR version.
    5. Start playing from the last save.

Think I found a minor sortta annoying bug in the latest version (downloaded today, also using Requiem 3.0 patch as I'm adding it on top of Ultimate Skyrim)

First I take my Dawnguard crossbow, then I fire it, then I reload it, and then I swap to a heavy dwemer bow and iron arrows in a SkyUI group hotkey) without first swapping to a melee weapon (if I swap to a melee weapon the bug doesn't happen), then a bolt will be pointing straight at my ring finger, but hovering right next to it.

It goes away if I swap to a melee weapon and then back to the bow.

I think it works with any bow and crossbow, but I can't confirm.

It's not a big deal, but I figured I might as well report it.

Okay I've tested it and it seems that this is the bug with SkyUI hotkeys rather than with my mod.
It only appears when I equip a bow through SkyUI group hotkeys and doesn't go away when I stop my mod from running by typing "stopquest hznecrquest" and "stopquest hznecrrequiemquest" in console, you can test it yourself.

Hey there, After I got this mod updated on my MO (I replace/overwrite it)
every time my character equip a crossbow, the game crashes
enabling the auto reload on MCM stopped the crash
anyway Cool mod, it's  prevents me from abusing the insta reload with TK dodge and TUDM XD
and Thank you for the update

Hi, from which version you're updated? Try to do a clean install as described in pinned post, because for me it doesn't crash regardless of auto reload state.
The latest update (v 1.3) was very minor and shouldn't cause any trouble.

This is strange, changes in v1.3 are very minor and only affect the moment when you start to reload your xbow, not when you equip it. Maybe you've installed/updated some other mod together with mine?

correction : it crashes when I unsheath or draw the xbow, I didn't shoot or aim it
I only updated your mod and goes into the game, I installed some mods only after I enabled the auto reload and somehow fix the crashes

That's not possible, the only two files changed in v.1.3 are hzNECRAliasScript source and compiled version, everything else is identical with v.1.2.
And as you can see there, the only thing changed in this script's source in v.1.3 is stamina drain calculation function. It was slightly optimized and changed in the way that Marksman skill above 100 still counts as 100 for the purpose of drain amount calculation.

This particular function only runs in the moment when you're starting to reload your xbow to calculate how much stamina must be drained for this time. It will not run when you draw/holster your xbow and has nothing to do with auto-reload - it will run regardless of it's state.

So I suspect some user error on your side, if you don't crash on v.1.2 right now, then you shouldn't crash on v.1.3 if you install it again.

I think I found a bug. The kill cam where the camera follows the bolt glitches out.

How bad it is? Watch the second video on the main page, at the very end I shot a bolt and kill yielding bandit w/ killcam, this one looks OK.
A few different ones that I've observed during testing also were OK, maybe you're using some custom killcam mod?

Will NECR get patched for Requiem 4.00?

edit: Haven't tested if it works with it yet, as I'm gathering a bunch of mods before I delve into Req.

Hey, I've looked it up in xEdit, and, oddly enough, seems like 1.9/2.0 patch is compatible with Requiem 4.
In 3.0 they've added some kind of a hidden stat, "Expertise" and now in Requiem 4 it seems to be removed, so it's back to how it was before, at least in things related to my mod.

I'm not 100% sure tho since I've never actually played with anything higher than Requiem 2.0, but it's the way it seems to be.
Anyway, now I renamed 1.9.x file, guess people will test the real compatibility out... *evil laugh*

Worst thing is that all this need for separate patches for different versions is only because I need to edit perk description to reflect that now it's reducing stamina cost instead of increasing reload speed. If only there was a way to patch perk description by a script like in New Vegas, I could've made a universal version.

Im using requiem.. in the optional Files.. Do i still need the MAIN FILE alongside the RequiemVersion on the Optional Files?
If you are using Requiem, you must install additional patch from downloads page, otherwise heavy and light crossbows will have same reload speed and Rapid Reload perk will do nothing.
EDIT: nvm i need both... additional 2 esps for this... Im alreadyy reaching my mod limit >.<

I have NO idea why, but it APPEARS (and I WAS able to reproduce) that the mod "A Matter Of Time" (44091) prevents this mod form from initializing. On a new game, I had to create a save before installing A Matter Of Time so that this mod would work.YMMV.

When you say it prevents it from initializing, do you mean in-build initialization process or that it simply doesn't appear in MCM menu? If it's the first, then you can force initialize it manually with a MCM option.

Hello there, awesome mod you have done!

When you said you can't make the reload animation to go slower, it means that there is no function to do this using the scripts? what if a new animation it is made that takes longer in reloading the bolt? could that be the solution to make the crossbow behave like before? I am asking this because I use Requiem.

First, why do you think it's OP with this mod? Have you tried playing with it installed for a substantial time? I think the stamina drain is a great (and IMO, better) alternative to Requiem's slow reloading.
Second, yes, theoretically it is possible to experiment with alternative slowed down reloading animations, I even tried it myself for a bit but results were...not overly impressive. If you wanna try to mess with it, you can start digging it up from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimrequiem/comments/9u1zxd/i_just_released_crossbow_reload_mod/e9e5bf8

Thanks for your answer, I really didn't mean to say it was OP, maybe I should have used the word "different". Because one is used to a behavior and now is different. You are right, the stamina could compensate the slowness somehow. It is a trade off after all.

Thank you very much for the link, I will check it out.

Hello there, thanks to your guidance, after a few research, I was able to find a solution to make your mod work with a Vanilla Requiem reload speed. I was able to do it with FNIS, but I actually wanted it for SSE, but that path got complicated; but luckily I found a solution that works in both editions (not mine, I just ported it to SSE). Would you mind if I posted it here? It doesn't modify in anyway your mod, it only patches it to work with Project-New-Reign---Nemesis. So people after download your mod, only have to do some additional steps to make it work.
      Best Regards

I think for such a thing you should create a separate mod page on Nexus and I'll link to it in my mod's description, it would make it easier for people to find it.
Just make sure it works correctly, I remember experimenting with slower reloads myself and they were kinda glitchy looking.

Okay, thanks, I've added link to your patch under "Requiem Support" description part on SE mod version page, so the people who like slower reloading will have an easier time finding it.
It's a bit weird that we discussed it here on LE mod page, so if anyone reads this, there is sadly no LE version of slower reloading patch ATM.

I think the animation is good enough now. I still have to fix the sound of the crossbow, but thank you again for your guidance about the project.

I found/discovered a very little bug/issue with this mod. If I save my game while the equipped crossbow is unloaded (or not loaded with bolt), and then if I load that saved game, the unloaded equipped crossbow will be automatically loaded (without pressing M1/left click button)with bolt after loading the saved game. That's all, but everything else works fine Thank you @HeroinZero <3 By the way I'm thinking, maybe you should add a new feature in which you can assign a different key for reloading the crossbow, like press "R" button to reload. That would be great! Thanks again, Endorsed!

It's not actually a bug, I've deliberately made it this way because Skyrim resets animation state on save load, so if not this auto-reload trick you'll end up with an empty crossbow that looks like it has bolt loaded in, so I picked the lesser of two evils and made it so you auto-reload on save load if needed.

Adding a hotkey for reload is probably possible, but why would you need this? It's kinda like adding a separate button for drawing a bow.

Anyway, it's always nice to see people enjoying my mods!

Okay, it all makes sense now.

I'm getting used to just pressing the M1 or left click button to reload the crossbow, so forget about that request hehe
By the way, may I know what is that "Crossbow reload exploit" this mod fixes?

It's when you holster/switch to another weapon quickly after shooting a crossbow and then switching back to it, skipping reload animation with much quicker equip animation.
Even if you try not to use this exploit, you still will use it unintentionally, switching to a melee weapon when enemy rushes you after an opening shot.

If you try this with my mod, you'll instead end up with an empty crossbow - makes sense, I guess.

I appreciate your effort

Hello sir! @HeroinZero It's me again, I would like to make a suggestion/request for this mod. Can you sir make/add an option to make crossbows loaded with bolt become unloaded if we sheath it or put it in the back. I am suggesting/requesting this kind of feature because I notice that every time my character sheathe or put his loaded crossbow on his back the bolt always disappear, and if he draw/unsheathe the crossbow, the disappeared loaded bolt on the crossbow will appear again and can be immediately fired. I Hope you sir can make this suggested option/feature for NECR. I really want it to happen. that's all sir. I will patiently wait for it sir

Isn't it just a visual inconsistency of animation that is only noticeable from a third person? I mean, it's a thing from vanilla and it's always been this way.
Auto-unload on holster is possible to code, but is kinda counter-intuitive and not realistic. It will basically be a vanilla behavior but switching "always loaded" to "always unloaded", why would you need this?
Isn't it better the way it works now, when a crossbow saves its current state no matter what?

@HeroinZero, Sir, yes I also think it is, but for me "always unloaded" crossbow (everytime we sheathe it) is realistic because, we can see that if we sheathe crossbows in first person view, the loaded bolt from crossbow automatically disappears and from third person view we can see that the crossbow in our character's back is unloaded with bolt (though it's loaded and not literally disappeared/gone, as I said the bolt can be immediately fired after unsheathing the crossbow. It's just like Skyrim hides the bolt everytime we sheathe our crossbows) Uhm sir, I am requesting that kind of optional feature (make loaded crossbows always unloaded everytime we sheathe it) because I think it is realistic and at the same time it adds a little bit of challenge for us Skyrim players who loves to use crossbows. So please sir, will you make my request?

I can add this feature but it's gonna be somewhere in the future, cause currently I'm not playing Skyrim and pretty busy IRL.
So don't get your hopes up too high, for example I still need to fix a minor bug with incorrect stamina drain calculations when using skill uncappers, which was reported back in november 2019, I still haven't had the time to fix it to this day.
