[WIP]

Introduction:

The goal of this guide is to create a completely new environment based on AceeQ's Skyrim Winter Overhaul that keeps being immersive but gives Skyrim a whole new feeling and makes it look like a different game. This mod will remove every tree and tree lod to achieve the new look. I was kind of inspired by the nature beyond the wall in Game of Thrones and the long night: a rough, dark and empty world where people are barely able to survive. Along the way you could still make some changes to my setup when you dislike parts of it. Without having trees, grass and no tree billboards this setup is quite performance friendly while looking great (imo). Perfect for mid range computers! (I have on average 50-60FPS with GTX1060 6GB)

Features:

- removes all trees
- removes all tree lods
- longer nights (~4-5 hours)
- almost always snow storms
- removes some flying objects (e.g. Mora Tapinella)

Disclaimer:

I'm not a native speaker but I'm trying my best to make this guide understandable for you. Additionally I'm not a pro nor semi-pro modder, my methods might be not smart but they will work. All the mods that are required are not made by me and I dont have the permission to use them. However since this is a guide and I only provide one file containing special transparent tree billboards that are compatible with Skyrim Winter Overhaul, there shouldn't be any problems with copyright claims. In the end this is just a small project to make you (and me) play Skyrim for real again without getting bored.

Mods that are required:

  1. Skyrim Winter Overhaul
  2. DynDOLOD
  3. PapyrusUtil - Modders Scripting Utility Functions
  4. TES5LODGen

Mods that are recommended:

  1. Natural Lighting and Atmospherics for ENB
  2. NobleSkyrimMod HD-2K
  3. Frostfall - Hypothermia Camping Survival
  4. Campfire - Complete Camping System
  5. more coming soon

Installation:

(Along the way please confirm any overwrite messages)

  1. Download every required mod above
  2. Install Skyrim Winter Overhaul with NMM
  3. Install PapyrusUtil with NMM
  4. Install DynDOLOD Ressources with NMM
  5. Download DynDOLOD Standalone files manually and extract them to C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\
  6. Install TES5LODGen with NMM
  7. Install my billboards with NMM (File A)
  8. Go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\DynDOLOD and run TexGen
  9. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\DynDOLOD\TexGen_Output, right click on texture and convert it into a ZIP-file
  10. Add it manually to NMM using the big green plus button on the top left and activate it
  11. Go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\DynDOLOD and run DynDOLOD (go to advanced, tick every mod and box you want and press high)
  12. Go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\DynDOLOD\DynDOLOD_Output and mark all 4 files inside, right click them and convert all of them into a ZIP-file
  13. Do step 10 with the new ZIP-file that we just created
  14. Install The Long Night Edition (File B)

(Tip: If you dont want all the features of The Long Night Edition (File B) you can disable any ESP that comes with this file using NMM)

That's it! However this guide
isn't finished. The next thing I'll be working on is a fomod installer with many customization options concerning weather, day and night and more.

Please let me know if you have any good ideas to make this setup better and if you find any bugs please report them to me :)

Thank you AceeQ for making such a great overhaul that inspired me to create my very own Skyrim mod setup. With that said I also want to thank every other modder whose mods I've listed as required or recommended. If you dont want to be listed I will remove your mod or delete this whole guide.
