I never expected my first (released) mod to make it to the Hot Files page! So thankyou to everyone for your kind words and support!
But the credit for this retexture should really go to wrig675 (aka Bellyache); as she created the textures from which I was working. I just made the eyes and noses a little cuter. And eventually made a Raccoon coloured version.
Let me know if you have any other texture requests or questions, as I'd be happy to help you. I'm not very good at making textures from scratch, but I'm pretty skilled at fixing and modifying existing ones.
Also, I recently made a Steam Guide on how to open, save and export DDS texture files with GIMP - so if you'd like to learn how to modify your own, you can use my detailed guide here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=711205933 And feel to check out my Steam profile too (linked on the Guide), as I have quite a few game keys to give away.
One of the few "ambient" animals NOT already spruced up (like Real Elk and True Wolves). I was thinking of working on this, but you did a fantastic job. Thanks for the variants, as well.
I believe that Brumbek's famous mod: SMIM (Static Mesh Improvement Mod) improves the textures and meshes for some of the metal clutter. It certainly improves a massive load of things. His work has been invaluable in improving many people's games, so you should give his mod a try if you haven't already:
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8655/?
As for other textures, you are right. There are a lot of untouched things out there, but if you look around, you might find that someone's uploaded an improvement. Before I downloaded your mod, I already had a HD Windhelm texture mod running - but it still had the old soil colours.
well technically SMIM changes only a few metal textures (for the most part clutter), Realistic overhaul did a retexture of more metal components (he got banned on nexus so you can't retrieve his ''work''), but no prison bars are satisfiying, they are the most uncovered textures
I think you made them look cuter but I often wonder why people have a hard time accepting pupils that are different from human eyes.Foxes, cats and goats have all been demonized in the past because they have eyes with pupils a different shape from ours. (Horses have oblong pupils like goats do but they are fortunate that their eyes are usually too dark to see that.) It is an odd thing but a common reaction for people to dislike that. I think the eyes are perfectly cute both ways.
I see what you're saying, and I wonder the same thing. I don't mind alternative shaped pupils - in fact one of my favourite and most endearing character designs has "plus" or "diamond" shaped pupils: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=615775585
Still, in my defence, the pupils of most animals - when fully opened - become circular; which for some reason is what people regard as cute. But I may do a more elliptical alternative for the Fox one day (if you would like me to), as the default "slits" is almost too thin to see.
I WOULD like that if you ever have the time to do it. The cat eyes of foxes kind of fascinate me because they are so superficially dog like but with cat eyes showing a relationship to both! You are certainly right though. I have seen pictures of foxes with dilated pupils that look round. I like your character design!
I have had horses with blue eyes. I think they are pretty but I have known people to distrust a blue eyed horse because of that strange aversion to "different" pupils. They describe them as demonic looking. LOL. (Both my blue eyed horses were about as UNdemonic and sweet and gentle as any horse ever. https://goo.gl/photos/WBW8CtA8vxee9uiF8
May I ask how 'narrow' you would like them? (Feel free to send me to an image). Because there are quite a few variants I could potentially do: https://media.giphy.com/media/g7BvWEtnei1q/giphy.gif
About midway in that GIF where they are open but not round yet would be awesome! Thank you!You make beautiful textures I have always defended foxes in my game and make a mini game of trying to get to whatever is after them and kill it first before they kill the fox. :-) It's catching. Now my husband is doing it too in his game.
Thanks. He was a great horse I had as a kid. He lived a long and well loved life. I miss him to this day and even made a texture so I could put him in my game. :-)
Ah, so just before they suddenly become circular. I think I get it.
Once I make them, I'll probably just send it to you, rather than uploading them as another main file to confuse people - so let me know if you want 1K or 2K.
I tend protect foxes in-game, and I use the "One With Nature" mod to change their behaviour so they're not so frightened of me like goats are. Great texture of the horse, it's a good tribute to yours.
Thank you!2K please.I only upload big textures on things that are important to me and foxes count. :-) Good idea to use that one with nature mod! Sometimes I cheat and use a resurrection spell on the foxes if I get there too late. Can't help it. They are so cute when they run beside my horse making that purring sound.
Here's a tweaked version of my 2K fox textures for you to use - just let me know once you've downloaded them (then I'll delete them from the page) : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBm15IvW7DBeVdtVTE0N0pYZU0
Also, I couldn't make the eyes as wide as I thought you wanted, without them just looking like ovals. The tips of the pupils weren't very distinct even when close (especially due to the 'glint' at the top of the eyes). So I hope you like these instead I still think they're cute.
Just drop both of them in your "Data\Textures\actors\fox" folder, replacing the previous ones. The "fox_n.dds" file won't need to change.
Love what you did with the eyes, endorsed. The Red Fox in particular looks great. The Arctic I think suffers from the source material you used - it looks "dirty". From most of the images you get from a google search, the Arctic Fox should be white as snow. I uploaded a shot of what mine looks like after I modified your 2k texture.
Ah, I didn't realise that was what the screenshot was for until I saw this comment I was like: "this isn't even my texture" O.o
My foxes were meant to be silver, as anything as white as yours begins to glow even without an ENB. But I might try making a brighter one as an alternative. I think the issue with your texture (from what I could see) was that the whole of the texture was lightened, not just the highlights - meaning the fur looked very plastic, since the shadows on the fur were now brightened also.
I uploaded a couple more shots of the actual 2k texture I made, plus a shot of a Snow Fox not in direct sunlight so you can see the fur detail in game. I'm definitely not a pro at making skins, but I think it looks like Snow fur lol
If you were shooting for Silver fox, then you did great. Thanks again for the upload.
I see what you mean it's hard to get the 'soft' look when the fur is so white. I may have to fiddle with the normal maps to make it work better (if I get around to making a whiter version of the arctic fox). I might leave these pictures off this mod page, as people may start asking where the files are
But you're very welcome to upload your texture as a mod. You've got permission from me (not that it's mine to give), and Bellyache seems very open to having people edit her textures. Just ask her if you decide that you want to upload your own.
You need a package for Automatic Variants that it works. So you can see more color variants of foxes in Skyrim. I use this for now http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/22727/?. But I like your textures more.
Thank you very much for making these! They look super cute and your screenshots makes it even better.
However, for the sake of consistency, the only reason I'm not using the Raccoon-like retexture is because you didn't touch the pelt item that you can loot from them.
I didn't have plans to, but if I can find out where those pelt images are located and how they are named (without the use of my very slow BSA unpacker), then when I get around to making the 2K texture, I'd be happy to create a pelt texture as well
I should mention though, that you are using my old 1K textures which were mistakenly created from the Vanilla textures (and not Bellyache's). The new much nicer 1K textures are now available to download if you'd like them. They should look just like the ones in the screenshots.

for instance still nobody did a retexture of the iron and metal clutter, like metal bars, gates ect.

According to the page, it's compatible with every mod - so all you need to do 'import my textures' to it, and it should work.
However, for the sake of consistency, the only reason I'm not using the Raccoon-like retexture is because you didn't touch the pelt item that you can loot from them.
Do you have any plans on doing so in the future?
I didn't have plans to, but if I can find out where those pelt images are located and how they are named (without the use of my very slow BSA unpacker), then when I get around to making the 2K texture, I'd be happy to create a pelt texture as well
Textures >clutter >wolfpelts >foxpelt.dds & foxpeltarctic.dds
And good job getting to Hot Files!!
I'll be sure to get around to it.
Once I get around to making the 2K Raccoon texture variants, I'll do the pelt texture for it as well.

The shot was taken a day earlier that's why. Sure, will update now~
