Mr. Dave I get profound FPS drop when using this meshes. I don't know what conflict there is. I use vivid weathers and ELFX Enhanced Lightning. Removing the meshes gives me back my 15-20 FPS in dungeons.
Sorry, couldn't resist. You have a few mods which customize fire. There could be some kind of compatibility with one of them, but I don't know. This is just a mesh replacer that is the same mesh as vanilla with the flame bits just lowered.
That's actually a pretty good question. The ones in the screenshots are from the Dragonborn DLC in one of the houses, but they can be found in most houses in any town.
It's a vanilla bug. ewi's candle flame doesn't exacerbate it. It's a really bad bug with custom or vanilla textures. I just hadn't gotten around to making a fix for the mesh yet. So of course, the first save I loaded up to check out ewi's new texture was standing right in front of the candles in the screenshots I used here. I went, "UGH!" and set to finally doing a fix... something I should have done over a year ago.
The rather popular RCI mod fixes this (as well as adding wicks to all candles), which is why I imagine alot of people are wondering why they've never noticed the problem.
As Leanwolf has already mentioned, Ruins Clutter Improved already has a fix for impcandle01.nif. However, this mod also includes fixes for the imperial chandeliers. I have never stared up at them to noticed but I'll take Dave's word for it that it needed to be fixed too.
Nope, I'm not joking at all. Thank you for the link. I don't use all these popular texture replacers. In fact, I generally don't even ever bother looking at them anymore. I'm not a fan of making textures 16 times their original size, then having them saved in formats such as ARGB8x32 instead of their correct DXT1RGB, etc. There is no need to replace 3 megs worth of textures with a couple gigs. There is no need to replace 100KB of textures with 4 megs. It just causes more wear and tear on your hardware. Doubling a very small texture to clean up compression artifacts is fine. Especially on normal maps where those evil artifacts really show. And that is definitely an exception to my rule of 'no uncompressed files'. Due to the sensitivity of the game's shaders when reading the normal maps, many of them do need to be saved in ARGB8x32 instead of DXT5, otherwise we end up with the blocky nose issues. I know this sounds harsh, but they add up very fast toward killing framerates. This has been my stand on them since Morrowind.
Anyway, yes, the RCI mod does fix the candle flame height. I'm not downloading a gig of files just to see if the same chandeliers are fixed in SMIM though.
So, I guess small fixes such as this would be for people like me who don't want a gig worth of textures changed just to have a few extremely annoying little things fixed.
EDIT: I just posted a warning for those who use RCI and SMIM that these are already fixed.
You might want to reconsider not using SMIM. I'm with you on not using ridiculously big textures, but SMIM is an exception that you really should at least give a chance.
SMIM is primarily a mesh replacer, like this mod, not a texture pack. It does include textures where the vanilla are really poor (sadly quite often), but he doesn't make them "16 times the original", and he even provides half-sized textures for weak rigs. And although it's grown huge, you can easily choose which parts you want. I'm not telling you to use it, I just feel your texture rant (which I can agree on) is a little misplaced concerning SMIM.
SMIM doesn't use ARGB8x32 .dds files because that would be silly. I assure you I've saved all the SMIM textures in the exactly correct DXT format and I provide a half-textures install option for those who prefer closer to vanilla sizes.
But anyway, as of SMIM version 1.71 (the latest), SMIM in fact does NOT edit the three meshes you edited for this mod. Although I do need to edit the two chandeliers at some point for SMIM. But for now, no conflicts with SMIM.
Good catch by the way even if Ruins Clutter does the same (great minds fix alike).
EDIT: Oh, you included impchandelliernocandle01.nif which conflicts with SMIM. But that mesh has no candles and should be removed from your mod?
Umm... I think you guys missed where I said I didn't even download SMIM due to its size. The texture comment was for RCI, along with hundreds of other mods that have been released for TES franchise games. I saw that the candle mesh was indeed fixed, then went in to see why the textures folder was so huge. The first one I opened was a 2048 replacement for a 128 original that was saved as RGB8x24 for the diffuse.
Trust me, I go through every mod I download to make sure things are correct. I frequently spend more time fixing them than it would take to make something similar, just to test them. It's a habit I got into after installing a wildlife mod for Morrowind, only to have the game come to a complete standstill. 1 frame every 15 to 20 seconds. Turned out it was from a cluster of spawned butterflies. I opened the files and the textures were 5 megs per butterfly. I set myself up an action in PS to scale them down to 128 and rebuild the alpha channel to correct for interpolation halos and all was fine. Couldn't even tell the difference in textures in game.
Thank you for the heads up, Brumbek! I didn't realize the nocandle mesh was still in the zip lol. Apparently it didn't delete from it earlier. I did put up a warning that anyone using RCI or SMIM shouldn't download this since you guys already collectively have these fixed.
EDIT: Brumbek, just use these when you are ready to do the chandeliers. It'll save you a few minutes at least.
Mr. Dave, your mod does supply 2 meshes - impchandelliercandle02.nif and impchandelliercandle02.nif with the candle height fix not found in either SMIM (as Brumbeck already said) or in Ruins Clutter Improved (RCI).
However, impcandle01.nif is also found in RCI.
So that's only one mesh currently duplicated elsewhere.
Dave, I don't think anyone missed you saying that you "didn't download SMIM due to its size", but you what you said was that you weren't "downloading a gig of files just to see if the same chandeliers are fixed in SMIM." I think the people suggesting that you download SMIM were encouraging you to use it on your OWN game, not just to test compatibility with this mod. It fixes so many appalling meshes that are present in vanilla Skyrim (including 2D chains and flat door handles), that I couldn't see myself ever playing Skyrim without it. It really is an amazing mod! Check out some of the images on the SMIM mod page for comparisons. And it doesn't kill your performance either, with every fix being optional and customisable (I use SMIM on a non-gaming laptop with a 1GB graphics card with no problems).
It's funny how little things like the height of a candle flame can be the source of irritation. But I guess it's just like a person who hangs the TP the opposite way you do. Yeah, it's a nominal thing, but it can get annoying lol.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
You have a few mods which customize fire. There could be some kind of compatibility with one of them, but I don't know. This is just a mesh replacer that is the same mesh as vanilla with the flame bits just lowered.
What is SIMM?
You're joking right? SMIM
I'm not telling you to use it, I just feel your texture rant (which I can agree on) is a little misplaced concerning SMIM.
However, impcandle01.nif is also found in RCI.
So that's only one mesh currently duplicated elsewhere.
Thanks for fixing those silly floating flames!
