Although I like to combine bunch of lesser soulgems to bigger ones, I don't feel like this really needed recipes to convert some precious gems into soulgems.
Can you make an alternate that requires daedra heart or dynamo core or something similar when making black soul gems? Black soul gems are grand soul gems with a special ritual. They should require a little extra.
I would like to see a version of this mod that makes you gain no experience when crafting soul gems, and fragments. I just broke down all of my soul gems and made them back into different denominations, and I went from around level 50 smithing to 104(uncapper).
Derija: Petty is the smallest. And is in the crafting menu. requires 2 fragments. Black gem is made from 3 great or 2 grand. If you don't want to use the recipe just dont pick it. Im not sure on the point your making about not carrying the right gems to cover the beasts you kill. Yes you do need a lot of common, lesser and petty (depending on lvl) to cover all beasts souls, you trap - but that just the way the game works...
Marc29: As for the black soul gems requiring a daerdra heart component, Im against that in skyrim, for a few reasons, 1) necromancy isnt a banned art in skyrim (mages guild never got there), therefore a easier method of creating black gems would have been found in 200 years since Oblivion, 2) you can buy black soul gems from a vendor, 3) the corrupted azuras star is v potent and therefore black soulgems arent needed and therefore to make them v hard to make is un-necessary.
I have finished work on this mod and will not be updating any further... enjoy.
Is it just me, or did you miss the Small Soul Gem in the crafting menu?
In regard of Marc29's comment, which would be a good improvement of balance btw., consider that we are already "tributing" by crafting a black soul gem out of 3 grands or 2 greats. Therefore removing the 2-great-soul-gem version would be appropriate.
Also consider that, if not enough soul gems are in the inventory, the black soul gems would fill up eventually with petty, small or common souls which is really disappointing... I don't feel like carrying around 30 petty, small, common, etc. soul gems each just to cover all the wolves, spiders, bears, trolls, and other wild and aggressive animals in the wild. So a not too unaffordable ingredient would be great. IMO
Zazutio: uploaded a new optional replacement esp with reduced soul fragments for each soulgem type. Hope this work ok for you. Its what I`ll be using myself. Reduced values by 1/2 for small soulgems and 1/4 for large. This should make mass petty creation a little more demanding.
Zazutio:the ratio is currently just based on the cost of the base object (used to craft) vs the cost of the resulting object. i.e. a straight (or almost stright) swap. garnet is base cost 100go and so is greater soulgem.
The reason you might see a balance issue is due to the price you can normally sell and buy items. i.e. you sell an item for half base cost and buy it for 2-3 times base cost (all of this is based on speechcraft). Thus if you where to sell all the gems to a vendor and then bought petty you would see a 1/4-1/6 in returned value. (But if you have all the speechcraft perks and are wearing all the increased sell value items it a much better ratio).
Ive tried to mitigate this by providing the alternative download with perk requirements in keeping with an enchantment process (see main info page). This also lvl limits each category.
But even after play testing that, I think I would agree with you that the balance is off (too easy), what would you say should be a good ratio (Im thinking maybe a 1/4 return value)?

I've been using this mod for awhile now, and I saw this post today.
So, I decided to make my own mod that does this- and some other stuff.
Check it out if you like:
Rupture and Craft Soul Gems
Also, Clicking on the downloads button Nexus says that no files have been uploaded yet. Is anyone else having this problem?
