Somebody just sent me a PM regarding this mod and i never realised it would get this popular while i wasn't watching. Thank you to everybody who downloaded and endorsed!
To be honest, i ran out of steam for a little bit. Between this mod and my Buried Treasures mod, i just kept hitting brick wall after brick wall. It wasn't fun. So i took a small break, then when i returned i started some fresh projects (one of which is just about ready for release).
I'm just stopping by to say that i haven't forgotten about this mod. I do intend on returning to it. I have learnt a lot since then and have been thinking of new ideas here and there. I might rewrite the whole thing with these in mind.
You have no idea how happy I am to hear this! I'm always hoping that when I do my daily login to the Nexus, your mod will be on top of my Tracking list! I can't wait to see what you do next with this wonderful mod!
I really love the concept of your mod mate . I would really suggest that you make it SkyRe and Requiem compatible once you start on the mod again. Would love to use the mod in my next playtrough. Nice job anyway *thumps up*
Wait, ACSpace, why do you say this mod is incompatible with SkyRe or Requiem?
Sure, those mods have more robust combat systems than Vanilla - and enemy attacks can therefore be more deadly.
Are you saying this mod is incompatible with those because the lil' baby wolf gets his butt kicked easily (and does little damage in return)? Or am I missing something....?
Okay so, the wolf doesn't follow very well. I think this Mod menu needs the ability to choose your wolfs texture, max size, and of course name, as well as be able to shut of that need to feed for those who don't want to have to worry about it. That said, this is a great idea for a mod and I truly hope you continue to work on it.
Tracking! This sounds like exactly my kind of mod: implausible, but makes it sound not Does the wolf actually only grow to the size of a normal wolf, or does it grow larger (it looked larger in Brodual's video), and is there only the one texture? (Is that the word? Colour, anyway) Reason is, I'd quite like a "realistic" Grey Wolf-style colouring, personally. Maybe I'm just too Game of Thrones, but still... Also, I'm using Skyre, but apparently it doesn't work with this... Is there a compatibility patch or something you could release when this is done?
hey man, im not the author but i can answer some of your questions ^^
-Yes, the wolf does seem to grow to a slightly larger size than a regular Skyrim wolf. (I personally like this idea too^^) -Yes, you can have different textures (skin colours) for him, but you need to follow a couple extra steps. (i can offer you a easy step by step guide if you like - there's an amazing amount of choice) -Yes, you can have a 'realistic grey' style wolf. I too dislike the dirty, brown texture of Skyrim wolves, so im currently using a grey texture instead. (Looks awesome^^) -No, from the looks of the comments, id say skyre is not compatible with this (perhaps only for the moment - ask the author ^^).
EDIT: I've noticed i'm still getting messages about the texture swap, even in 2021(!) Sorry to say, i havent used this mod for years now, so i can't recall exactly how i made it work. Is it not as simple as replacing the texture files in mod's texture folder?
Ditto what Lunar said - I have been using this mod since the last update Hypno made and love it. A little quirky at times but overall very fun and cool mod and an integral part of my story writing and main character now.
Could somebody explain to me exactly what is needed to make this compatible with SkyRe? I have never used that mod and don't really know what it does. I have started on the fresh rewrite of this mod, so I would like to have compatibility in mind from the start this time round
As soon as this gets a SkyRe update, I'll be downloading and endorsing! Some other mods to keep in mind for compatibility with as you rewrite (mentioned only due to the pet fitting in with the 'theme' of these mods) are Hunterborn, Frostfall, and Realistic Needs & Diseases. I hope this doesn't come off as too obvious, but just in case, I figured I'd mention it as all of these mods lend themselves to the ranger play style that this mod seems to fit so well.
I have been playing this mod since the beginning WITH Skyre and have never had any problems. Not sure why people aren saying it's not Skyre compatible?! Anything can be Skyre compatible with the Reproccor! But even if it doesn't work on a mod, this mod has nothing to do with Skyre's modifications. I would however STRONGLY recommend AFT or UFO! It helps with follower mods, especially this one.
ok, for everyone having issues changing the texture, im just gonna leave this (quite possibly the longest post known to man - send your congratz in the post^^) right here so it doesnt get moved. First of all, you need to download that optional file labelled 'custom texture - optional addon' located on the wolf follower page. Now just remember that this file on its own wont give you extra textures - you have to add them manually using another mod which edits wolf textures, which im just about to explain:
I would recommend using Bellyaches animal and creature texture pack so visit the page, click on the 'download (manual)' button, and MANUALLY DOWNLOAD one of the top 2 files you see. One is high resolution, one is medium, pick whichever you prefer. I went for medium, but maybe your laptop / computer is better than mine. DONT download it with nexus mod manager. Make sure you pick DOWNLOAD MANUALLY. This is very important because you are only using ONE file from this entire mod to edit ONE character (your wolf).
Next, once its been downloaded, check your downloads folder. You should find somewhere the mod you just downloaded. Once youve found it, right click it and select 'extract files' (<-- i think you need WINRAR installed on your computer to do this). Select 'ok'. A second folder with a different icon but the same name as the mod you downloaded should appear in your downloads section, probably nearer the top of the list. Find it.
From here onwards everything you need to do is detailed on the wolf follower description page under the heading 'custom texture addon', but ill explain it here for you anyways ^^
Open the SECOND bellyaches texture pack folder you just found and find the folder inside it labelled 'packs'. Inside this are all the retextures for all the animals Bellyaches wants to edit. You only need to find the folder in it labelled 'wolf', open it.
Now youll see the names of all the available wolf skins you can choose from. Choose one you like (if you dont know, scroll through the screenshots on bellyaches animal retexture mod page until you find the picture showing all of the wolf textures.) I chose 'light grey' but you can do the same for whichever you choose:
I then opened my chosen texture folder, 'light grey' and found the 2 folders 'actors' and 'clutter'. Enter both of these and youll see some files labelled Wolf.dds, Wolf_n.dds and wolfPelt.dds.
Now you need create a new folder, send it to your desktop and copy and paste those 3 files into this new folder. Rename these pasted files to followerWolf.dds, followerWolf_n.dds and followerWolfPelt.dds
Now you need to find the wolf custom texture addon file you downloaded earlier, which will be in skyrim/data/textures/WolfFollower then copy and paste followerWolf.dds, followerWolf_n.dds and followerWolfPelt.dds into skyrim/data/textures/WolfFollower. But we aint quite done yet ^^
Most users are reporting that the 'wolf follower' folder isnt appearing in their skyrim data textures folder, (and i had this issue too). I fixed it by simply downloading the 'custom texture addon' file MANUALLY (dont download it through nmm), then opening it till you get to the 'textures' and 'meshes' subfolders page, then only opening the 'textures' one. You should now see a folder inside that called 'WolfFollower'. Copy and and paste THIS into the textures folder on your skyrim data page, located at program files x86/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/data/textures. if you also have an 'actors' folder inside this, put it in there ^^
Once youve done this, simply paste the texture files followerWolf.dds, followerWolf_n.dds and followerWolfPelt.dds i mentioned in my last message, into the wolfFollower folder that you just put in your skyrim/data/textures folder. And boom shakalaka!!! finished! THE ORDEAL IS OVER!!! BREAK OUT THE RASSSSHHHHHBERRY SSCCHHNAPS!!! Got yourself one fancy mutt, kid ; ) Message me if you have any issues! ^^
unless you already have, i'm not sure if i would bother making this mod compatible with SkyRe, given that PerMa (the successor to SkyRe) will be released in less than a month.
There is a new mod for husky vocalizations which is less yappy and more fitting for huskies and wolves. Having owned a hybrid I know that they rarely bark. Howls whines and aroo roos ( chasing him around the pool trying to get the pigeon away telling him bad and him arooing with a nyah nyah can't catch me tone).
love the little guy but he never relaxes. My other wolf Rusheeda lays down, Mittens the tiny saber cat lays down, both also sit, not the pup just atands there looking up at you. Puppies need rest they sleep alot(preferably near you). Is this fixable?
I have an idea for the mod. Maybe something to carry the wolf around with you when he/she is a pup? Because I tend to run and sprint a lot and well... the pup gets left behind, so I have to wait for the pup to catch up. It kinda defeats the purpose of moving fast if you have to wait for your companion to catch up. So I was thinking kind like a backpack or satchel that you wear and you have the dialog option of something like "(Carry)", but only when the wolf is a pup, and the wolf is put in the bag with their head sticking out the top to let you know they're there, as well as recieve a power to "unpack" the wolf from the backpack, or for those using MCM, like myself, a hotkey instead of a power.
Well, what do you think? I figure this would be difficult, but maybe you could try?
i have a question , the "lets go" option is gone after the wolf reaches teen and i cant make it follow me, whats worst is , its following me and i cant make him go home and when i try to use commands it says that the wolf is not following me. so basically the wolf is not REGISTERED as following me but it is following me and still gets hungry but the wolf commands do not work , i cant make it follow me or go home either. please fix this bug/ if on purpose how to fix it?
Well since this post is 2yrs. old, I guess the mod is dead again (as far as fixes and add-ons) sorry to see that as it is a very nice mod, with some problems...
So I've browsed through the forum and seen a lot of "Wolf not following me" "Can't send home" "Teen probs" etc... And It's not a bug it's a mod conflict. I too have this mod and AFT (Amazing Follower Tweaks), and if you read the AFT page it says even though LOOT might put AFT in ______ load order, if you're having conflicts with followers or AFT is not working move your follower tweaks mod to the bottom or at least below the wolf follower mod. I had the same problem as I couldn't send my wolf follower home and it said that he wasn't following me. If that doesn't work try reloading the save or go back to a new save and try this fix. If you have UFO I can't speak on your behalf but they are similar so it's worth a try. In the end the mod isn't bugged as I've tested this and it works.
I had deinstalled the mod after experiencing those problems and was tracking this mod because I really, really loved it. I am SO glad it's ok after all.
Hey could you tell me how to change the textures. I've looked for the WolfFollower file under Textures but it's not there. I do have the mod installed cause I have been to where the Wolf is and it is there.
It says you can't receive any new messages so I'm posting this here.
I'm currently working on a mod that adds features in many areas of the game. I wanted to put a wolf follower in that has multiple features and I've decided to implement a hunger and growth system somewhat similar to yours. I will be drastically changing some of the scripts that you created, the hunger and growth script is almost completely different as feeding and size tie into each other, but nonetheless mine have originated from yours so I wanted to acknowledge that as well as make sure that it's ok by you. I would also like to thank you for inspiring me to add this feature and to some degree making it possible.
Hi Hypno88, I'm glad you have plans to keep working on this.
I'm not sure if there is any way to do this, but if you could add in a sleep function it would be awesome. I use Campfire and Frostfall and I feel bad sleeping while he stands or paces while I'm resting. Even if he just laid down on the follower sleeping bag it would be great! In any case he's an awesome companion!
Pleage give a patch for a wolf howl himself please... Is silence and is boring. Thanks... And how i can change the wolf of black color ? Is white for defaut but i can not change the "color" of wolf
Hi there, Would you consider developing another follower mod similar to this one? Instead of a wolf, could you manage a sabretooth follower/pet that grows up?
Please update this,i've been waiting since 2014 to this mod everyday i check in on the site, still not updated,i love this mod show much bro,i cant play skyrim without this wolf, again please updated it,i will support u with whatever i can sir Please updated it : (
I really love this concept and I would love to play but with mixed reviews I’m worried about installing it on my fresh save. Could anyone give an update to how playable the mod is?
It's certainly usable, at least on my part, and it's genuinely pretty fun to watch your wolf grow as you travel around. With the lack of support though, you'll end up finding that bugs are there to stay.
There is an annoying bug. If the wolf grows up while he is inactive (i had him at Breezehome) he automatically starts to follow and cannot be dismissed. I had to disable him via console. Shame
Good afternoon. Could someone explain to me how I can use the skin and eye textures from the "True Wolves" mod in this Wolf Follower? I have already downloaded everything, but the files are different and the truth is that I have no idea how to install them ^^'
I've been playing for a long time and yes I cheated by sleeping for the days to pass and but somehow my wolf won't grow pass the teen stage and I have no idea why. Can someone help me?
I have used this mod since it came out and for me the wolf never went past teen. I just go into the CK once it is a teen then redirected the "teen" actor to the adult race and skins. I also use the CK to give the wolf a proper name.
Also nice with True Wolves mesh and textures so you get the dog animations.
This is working for me with Nether's Follower Mod. Every once in awhile it will say "Your wolf is hungry", but the option to feed him will not respond to clicking. I fix it by entering a building or going up or down a dungeon level. No other problem and he seems to be growing just fine.
Update: On one of my playthrus the wolf has vanished, but still shows up in NFF.
I ran into issues with the wolf and NFF ... but having used this mod since the day it was out I know how quirky and buggy it can be. My favorite animal follower mod as it's the only one with some depth to it.
So I got this mod, and I'm into my 3rd day of the 8th week and my wolf is still in it's "teen" mesh when it should be about as big as my character yes? I did set the growth rate to 1 day, did I mess it up? Please, I would love some answers

@Agleh I think you should rather find someone who is doing translations to Spanish, and then get that person to contact Hypno to do the translating.
