Guys! Thank you all for the comments and endorsements, I'm sorry I wasn't able to reply to you sooner. I'm aware there might still be some issues with the mod that require attention and possible fixes, and most likely some compatibility updates. Sadly, I'm currently very busy with RL stuff, but I am planning on revisiting Skyrim and modding at some point in the future. When that will be I can't say, but for now be sure to read all the comments below because some of them might detail temporary fixes/workarounds to some of the issues. Thank you all for your patience and support!

Hi , do you have any solution for me? I play on low resolution and the map is just unreadable in my resolution? Could you make a low resolution version?

The new version 1.3.1 adds an equippable map for purchase at Belethor's General Goods. I suggest using this instead of the main map as often as possible. Also, check out the original mod - Equip-able maps: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4424/?
The new equippable map might not fit in the screen with your FOV settings. I used 80 for the screenshots you see here.

Here's how to adjust the map angle with one mouse movement! Place the mouse pointer in the middle of the screen and drag the mouse in the direction shown:

Can you give us some insight on how to install this mod alongside the 4 mods you recommended?
No GPS + iHUD + No Fast Travel + Hardcore Compass + Warburgs Paper Map.
What should the load order look like?
I'm going to test installing them in the following order, through mod organizer...
    1) iHud
    2) No Fast Travel
    3) Hardcore Compass (version 3)
    4) Warburgs Paper Map (version 2) + dawnguard addon + dragonborn addon
    5) No GPS (with skyrim.ini tweak)

    works well on SE.
i've installed 1.3 version of this mod and a quality world map classic (main roads). loaded this mod after the quality world map. made sure to convert form 43 to 44 in CK.
paper version of the quality world map and also warbugs' paper map (sse version) dont work with this mod, unfortunately.

Do you think it will work with "Flat World Map Framework" (FWMF)?

no idea, haven't tested it. try it out and report back, if you'd like.
also, loot "screwed up" my load order, it seems that a mod such as the unbound reborn overwrites this one. so, just to put the edit out here: give this mod a go at the bottom of your load order.

Could you please explain a little more how you did this? I tried saving the .esp in the SSE Creation Kit after making and reverting a small change (which is how the Wiki recommends it) but the game still won't launch with this mod installed. How did you do it? Thanks!

Take a look at this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9762
It's for SSE, it has an option to hide player map marker

Version 1.1 works for Skyrim SE with and without Warburgs Paper Map.
I also works with mods that add markers for lesser caves and such.
I extracted the .swf file and put it in SkyrimSE/Data/Interface
    1. Have you by chance had any luck getting the hand held map to work? I can live without it, but if there's a way to get it included I very much would like to. Actually come to think of it, do you know if I can just make the hand held map a standalone thing?

Edit: I now see the equip-able maps is a standalone mod. My B. Will try to work with that.
Edit 2: There is indeed a SE version of the Equip-able Maps mod, and I will try to run it alongside this. Should work fine. For those interested: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16373?tab=description
    2. Second reply, unrelated to first. My SkyrimSE/Data/ doesn't have an interface folder. Did you make one yourself or is there supposed to be an interface folder already? After google searches I've found that some people have one, but they only say there's an English translation in there. Game seems to be in English lmao, but no interface folder so I am a scoch confused.

I was just about to ask this; it's nice to be able to get completely lost in SE as well.

i'm currently trying to get a build working that removes all map markers and instead forces you to make your own, and the whole point of it is that you never know exactly where you are (combined with survival mods/frostfall this adds a nice challenge as well); without this mod it's basically impossible so it's good to see my dreams haven't been shattered.

"NECRO NECRO!" I think old posts, old info, and old questions asked again have some of the best details and best answers. Many sites will ban you for reviving posts if someone complains but refuse to remove them or lock them from being revived. Map markers can be removed with SSEEdit. You could filter for the markers then disable all of them. I do not know if all markers work the same, usually everything has exceptions. You can make map markers or rename map markers. You may be able to choose if they appear before reaching the location. I was looking at a VR mod for maps that has several maps you can hold. You should look at that and see if any part is usable or if the author is active now with map modding and can help. I can't remember these things until I am doing them again. Oh, last idea, maybe you can replace the map markers file with a blank file of the same type. That would at least remove them.

Any replacement for this for SE? I can't find anything like it. My main problem is that the map centers on the player when opening it. And I can't use the "map as shield" mods because of weird player height issues that cannot be fixed with my build. This mod would be perfect, but it's for LE.

I assume removing only player marker will work only on english games? Since there are english string files

Few notes, as i'm testing this with SkyUI and quality world map:
    - Install this mod after SkyUI, so that the map file is overwritten.
    - Disable version checking for map in SkyUI's MCM menus, otherwise you'll get one error popup (it won't repeat after that though).
    - Player arrow is hidden on the main map. Good, as i was mainly after this.
    - When main map is opened, it zooms out from player's location so i always know where i am. Bad. Not sure how to fix this.

I'm cautiously optimistic on new finding, will try that next (Skyrim Compass Tuner): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/912/
It can hide player from map too.

Skyrim Compass Tuner is broken, right? It is old and incompatible with Skyrim 1.8 and higher, and the map.swf it creates in the Interface folder breakes the in-game map. Did you find a way around it?

It's been over a year from when i tried it last so i forgot details. Re-enabling it in MO2 does something though: I got error that map file is incompatible the first time i opened map in game, but then on i see player position is not shown on the map (which was the point?). But it also zooms out from player position.

Manually extracting and pasting in the 1.1 version Data\Interface\map.swf seems our best bet, currently.
Although it will lack some features; player arrow is hidden, but I think map still zooms in on your location.
You can also still press the button to center map on player location, so you still know rough map location.
Someone mentioned a mod tweak could center the map on Riverwood instead, but don't know which one.

while this mod is great and only one of its kind... i still do not want to use it because the navigation through the map extremely sucks !

i use warburg's map and i like his navigation, from this mod i ONLY want 2 features: 1.map doesn't zoom to player location 2. theres no player map marker.

i would love to download and endorse this mod should u make a version available that has only the 2 features mentioned above and follows the map navigation of vanilla !
