My new mod is called Landstrider, and after extensive R&D I've begun the principal high level design.

Hey folks. I'll try to keep this brief. First of all thank you to everyone for playing my mod and providing your feedback over these years.

    The Bad
I'm no longer working on Hunting in Skyrim (but keep reading, there's good news!). I started this mod in 2012 so you can imagine a lot has changed in the last 8 years. As it relates to modding, since starting my own side business I've become a much better programmer. With the scale of work needed to actually make a working hunting guild, plus the 8 years of mostly dodgy code buried in the mod, I feel it's time to hang up the hat. As of version 2.0Beta1.8, any remaining bugs can be considered mod features. Thanks to everyone for the support on this journey. How time flies ey?

    The Good
I've started a new project, based on the features in Hunting in Skyrim. I'm very proud of the things I managed to accomplish in my mod, considering I started with zero knowledge of coding or the Creation Kit. I started this project last summer as a little exercise and rediscovered how much I actually enjoy modding. Because of that I decided to work towards completing it and releasing it publicly. It's not finished yet though!

    So What's Next?
I'm starting off from what worked in Hunting in Skyrim (fishing, trapping, cool hunting abilities and challenges) but rebuilding and rewriting everything from scratch, using everything I've learned so far. There's no guild this time, just a set of cool and fun features. Designed primarily to give the player more things to do, as well as give them a deeper sense of place in the world. The mod will be available for both classic and special edition Skyrim, as well as releasing on Xbox One. It will also be released feature complete, not in beta/testing form as with Hunting in Skyrim, with the goal of creating a solid, quality experience, with room for me to expand in the future if I want to.

My new project is called Wildlander, and will release this summer (2020).

Man, I'm very happy with this news!!! Ty for this mod and I can't wait for Wildlander, I know is hard, but I wish you could do a mod very compatible with great mods like Ordinator, CACO, Hunterborn, iNeed, etc. When I last played your mod it brings so much more fun and complements so well all these other mods. As a suggestion, what if your mod is based on "Hircine theme". Despite all werewolf mods, the Lord of the Hunt himself gets little love. Not every hircine follower is a werewolf and not every werewolf is a hircine worshiper. But he is the daedric prince of hunting. I would love to see something like that.

Oooh yes! Rosserani's idea sounds perfect & I heartily second this notion :D definitely not enough in the way of Hircine included in either the werewolf mods or the hunting ones & since my main playthrough is a Bosmer werewolf / huntsman build, believe me, I've looked

      UPDATE

As I'm sure everyone is aware things are a mess at the moment, and I'm now going to be facing some financial difficulty. I won't have time to put any effort into fun hobby projects for a while, so Wildlander will have to wait. I'm sorry for disappointing everyone, when I posted my update in February I had the best intentions.

Great stuff! I'd miss Amberleaf Den too much to uninstall Hunting in Skyrim if I'm being honest, but I suppose I could just disable its features and keep it installed for the sake of keeping the place there. As a Sprigmer who only goes into towns to play my flute at the local tavern, it's the main hub for my character when I'm in the East of Skyrim. Considering the only other place I call home is the Valenwood Lodge when I'm in the West, it's not something I'm willing to give up. Adding more Hircine lore in seems like a fair trade of your time  regardless.

All that being said, take as long as you need. Real life always takes precedence, and it's great to know that you're going to release it at 1.0 instead of 0.x so it's not like anyone's going to mind. Thanks for making the mod which finally got me to play this game after five years of it sitting in my library by the way. I've still never done more than a handful of actual quests 'cause this combined w/ Hunterborn, Frostfall, Campfire, CACO and RND is more than enough to keep me entertained.  Thanks for bothering to make two versions as well. I know a lot of people have moved on to SE, but it doesn't support "Nock to Tip" so I refuse. Graphics don't matter half as much as gameplay to me, and NtT adds too much fun with fletching for me to drop it. Not as much fun as this mod, but it's certainly the icing on the cake at higher levels.

NEW UPDATE - VERSION 2.0 Beta

Do not update from a version below 2.0, use only a clean save.

A new version of the mod is now available, with a brand new intro. The Hunters Guild is no longer located in Whiterun, but in the north-west of Falkreath Hold. Kill stats, skinning and trapping are all available from the start of the game. Just cast the Path of the Woodsman power using the shout key.

Another notable change is the removal of the carcass skinning system. Now only the visual skinning system is included.

All perks have been converted to abilities for my custom skills. This means there doesn't need to be a separate version of the mod to be compatible with mods that change perks/skills.

All Skyrim DLC is now a requirement.

Several of my standalone mods have been built into Hunting in Skyrim with extra features:

The Hunting in Skyrim website is largely out of date due to the new updates, so use the information from this mod description page.

    Happy hunting!

    Current Version: 2.0 Beta 1.8

    Last changelog (7th June 2018):

    • New guild location - Amberleaf Den, located near Riften (map marker automatically added).
    • New Ability/Feature: Arrow Crafting (Fletching) - A new Wildlander skill ability to craft arrows using a Portable Arrow Crafting Kit or at a Forge. Portable Arrow Crafting Kits deplete after so many uses.
    • New Ability/Feature: Field Alchemy - A new Wildlander skill ability for using Mortar & Pestles. Potions brewed in the wild are weaker by default, this ability improves them. Mortar & Pestles come in 4 qualities, each lasting longer.
    • New Ability/Feature: Bait Mixing - A new Trapping skill ability for creating animal baits using a Mortar & Pestle. Mixed baits give a higher chance the trap will be successful. 3 bait qualities.
    • New Feature: Fishing - Use the new Fishing Rod item crafted at a Forge or found in the wild to do some fishing. Video link.
    • 5 new named NPC Guild Members found at Amberleaf Den. Trainers and merchants.
    • New animal: Pheasant. Now available through trapping.
    • It's not required but I recommend using a new clean save. Lots of old obsolete content removed. You may notice Papyrus script errors referencing objects not found if you continue with a save. These can be safely ignored as everything is working normally and remains 100% functional.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How do you start?
Using the "shout" key, cast your Path of the Woodsman power (look in your Powers magic menu) to enable this mod's features. Once enabled you can cast the power again to view your stats, skills, and change the mod options.

    Are there any quests?
No quests yet. You can start the first set of hunting challenges though. When the mod's features are enabled, when you kill a fox the challenges will begin.

    How does animal skinning work?
    See this tutorial video.

    How does trapping work?
    See this tutorial video.

    Does this work with Hunterborn?
Yes. When Hunting in Skyrim's features are enabled you can select the mod option to turn off my skinning system. As an added bonus, in the MCM menu for Hunterborn you can enable my skinned animal textures when you skin an animal with Hunterborn.

    Is this mod compatible with...
Try it out and see. Should be compatible with mods like Frostfall, RnD, any perk/skill changing mods.

mods like this that add to the immersion of hunting are a equal mix of the "good/ the bad and the frankly ugly"

lets go over "the good" first: the different "skills" from skinning/ trapping and overall hunting aspect of the mod, the inclusion of Hunterborn not conflicting with the mod

now for "the bad": the lack of hunting challenges/ the crampt hunting "settlements" and the thing all hunting mods sadly suffer from the low amount of gold each merchant has meaning selling the meat/ hides/ bones isnt worth it as you ultimately end up "buying back" the gold you spent when you first bought from the merchant

and finally "the ugly": and this is something i personally cant forgive; its the fact that while this mod is a good concept its a blatant rip-off of Red dead redemption but half assed and lacking

for immersion its "fine" but frankly the only reason to use this mod is to add the skinning visuals to Hunterborn and ignore everything else this mod adds

I really just wish it didn't add new locations. Especially in falkreath, I really just want that whole area to be a nice open forrest.

hunting in skyrim mod is a good mod but there is a problem with the mod it reads on vortex that it meant for Oblivion. HUH???? on the Skyrim AE version it leaves some what of some clear like holes in the game when you have the Skyrim AE farm loaded in the game and still has it those holes which look clear and odd when it doesn't have the Creation Club farming mod. either or it seems to be pretty holy and very much of A Oblivion like it's in the afterlife game doesn't run or work right like it use too. from Guntherwood, also know as the The Dagda (pronouce the Doy-da) on steam

There is something making this mod incompatible with Requiem, and because of the way you rebuilt it I don't mean the perk trees. Requiem has no health regeneration, and I can provide a screenshot showing in TES5edit how this is setup. However, your mod seems to break the no health regeneration magic effect. I'm digging around in Tes5edit now to see if the filter can help determine the cause, but you have something that breaks some of Requiem's spell effects for race.

I found the culprit. A magic effect is causing the health regeneration when a mod like Requien should be stopping it, because you have it being applied to the player via a script instead of via race settings in the CK. I removed the portable alchemy magic effect in TES5edit and no longer have the issue. I forget the exact name of it, but it's near the bottom in the Tes5edit magic effect panel, about the 6th one up from the bottom of the list or so.

Thank you very much! I spent 3 hours trying to disable health regen with every possible solution. Mods, console, tesedit - nothing! I started to turn off mods by half, then remaining half by another half and so on, until I have only one mod - Hunting in Skyrim. I come here and see your post - worked like a charm. Thanks again! No more stupid regen.

      Just here to thank you.
I'm not using Requiem but was trying to make a mod to drastically lower Health Regen and it wasn't working.
I confirmed that my mod worked then tracked the problem to Hunting in Skyrim. I came here, saw your post and fixed the problem.

If not for you I might've had hours of work to fix it, or had to uninstall HiS. So Thankyou.
