This mod has now been extensively tested
Cathedral Snow edits the values in snow shaders.

    Edit-----
Plugin should work with any version of Cathedral Snow
There should be no extreme value changes
Removed Requirements - all that should be required is Skyrim, DLCs not needed, Enjoy :)

Seems to be working fine, but simplicity of Snow must load after it, or CTD will occur. Best to use the no plugin version with SOS, just to be sure.

NM, it didn't install right, not an issue.  :)

Both "brighter" and "darker" versions look terrible in my game. The dynamic decals are far too bright, they stand out like a sore thumb, even on the map. In the darker version, the regular snow textures are much too dark, they are a very dark grey in overcast weather. Using Vividian ENB and NLA 2.0 weathers.
This mod is so far removed from being usable for me that I'm not even going to track it.

The original was created for SE, so two things needed to be accounted for: SE volumetric lighting, which is more advanced than LE, and the new snow system. From what i understand, you create a set of textures, and then control brightness from another texture. In LE, we don't have the means to control brightness, so we are left with the snow tones as they are.

Yes indeed, thanks, that was also my educated guess as to the reason. But it was only a guess, because I don't know the first thing about the Special Edition (by choice).

I've been trying to get the basics on how it works, at least to have an idea of what should i expect when porting something from there.
