As soon as I read the line:
"I couldn't resist the chance to come back for another poke at your old lady." !!!!!!

My jaw dropped, I literally-no-kidding slapped my forehead, and said "Oh sh*t!" out loud!
He did NOT just suicidally blurt that out to Arnbjorn, of ALL people!! What in Oblivion is he THINKING?!

Maybe Rathe has no idea WHAT Arnbjorn really is, maybe he simply doesn't give a rat's *ss either way....and then he said the second line....

    Oh, Gods!!
Then I started laughing literally to a sore stomach, knowing damned-well what's gonna happen next....

    IT! IS! ON!

    Arnie's got at least a 75-pound (I guess) weight advantage on Rathe...well...to start, that is...^^ Imperial VS Nord/Werewolf. > DING! < ^^
Good thing Rathe has good natural agility, or his face would have been smashed strait to the back of his skull with Arnie's first MOAB! (Mother Of All Blows^^ )

Thank you so much, Jess. I just loved that totally insane provocation...still can't stop laughing as I type this!
I know, I got a pretty sick sense of humour....^^
Try typing while you laugh...I dare ya!
My typing sucks bad enough to begin with, and now this on top of it?? You can just imagine, Lol!

Wow! what a legendary and ferocious brawl of the ages indeed!
This "Major Sanctuary Event" WILL be recorded in the most recent Annals of the Dark Brotherhood by the Dark Scribes for ALL time!

I guess Rathe was so massively down, and his totally polarized and almost seppuku-like instinct to fight was so strong that he deliberately, almost nonchalantly chose those MORTALLY insulting words that would MOST definitely "pick a fight", Braveheart-style^^, with the biggest, baddest, and meanest member of the whole freaking Family!

Just one "wee little" thing: Rathe had his throat bitten and torn open by a WEREWOLF and would have died, but instead was saved and lives still.
You know damned-well what that might mean!
    Uh-oh!!^^
Rathe might want to keep very accurate track of the phases of the Moons, from now on....^^

    What a breathtaking pretzel-plot-twist!
Apparently Fleur may not be so cold towards Rathe after all....^^
I may perhaps have to eat some of my previous negative comments regarding Fleur^^, along with some humble pie, and an UNhealthy helping of crow....

Young Darius is apparently a strong and capable healer, and displayed a most rare honour by saving Rathe, even though it might cost him Fleur....
I'd still bow respectfully to the boy for that noble act, despite his personal misgivings.

Fleur's heart-breaking countenance upon seeing Rathe near-death was most saddening, but maybe that grief is just what she needed to remind her of her heart....^^

That last line about the "....seriously pissed-off werewolf" just set me off 'howling' ^^ again! Lol!

Oh boy, does flustered and thoroughly BOLLOXED^^ Astrid EVER have some serious 'splainin' to do to "Angry Arnie" now, and I'd just LOVE to be a proverbial "fly on the wall" to witness that massive load of broiling-hot, delicious domestic drama! LMAO!

I guess that's just Rathe's payback to Astrid for being a total, manipulative, lying b*tch to him for far too long....^^
    What a marriage-NUKER! LMAO!
    >wipes copious tears of mirth<

    Swiftly endorsed!
Many warm and very kind thanks for this rollicking, raucous, rip-roaring, ribald, heart (and throat) - rending chapter, Jess, and hearty cheers, dear, I totally loved this one!
    Ouch my stomach hurts!

Hahaha, now you've got ME howling with laughter!

The BEST feedback I've ever had hon! Cracked me up. Glad I could give you a laugh and yep, you're 100% right; some of this was about a death wish of Rathe's part, but most of it was payback in the most horrendous way to ASTRID!!

I would NOT want to be in her shoes when Arnie turns back into man again "marriage-NUKER"!!

And yep, I'm well aware of the curse of Hircine and what a werewolf bite will do. Just not sure whether a healing spell can cure the taint...

So glad this gave you a laugh and I will admit to having a chuckle when I wrote that famous like about poking old ladies!!

      Thanks sweetie!

The only third line he could have delivered after the first two:
"I just hope she's not pregnant..." ^^ right before Arnie's MOAB....
      Cheers, dear!

Ummm....are you sure that's wise? I mean isn't the poor, pissed-off cuckhold already supercritical enough as it is?^^
Do you really want to make him go thermonuclear??^^
It's probably a good thing Rathe didn't say it in the first place.... LMAO!
OK I'll STFU before I bust a gut...
      Cheers, dear!

Did Rathe have a death wish? I mean WHO SAYS *THAT* TO A WEREWOLF? Thankfully he's alive! And Darius... Hmm.. I have a feeling about him and it isn't good.
I like Fleur's new look, though the old hair colour suited her better, I think. But I understand why she wanted to change it. On another note, I love Rathe's new hair. ^^
Wonderful work, Jess! I am looking forward to the next chapter.

Aaaand... he snapped. Nicely done, Rathe, to speak poorly of the werewolf's wife... you've got some brains, even when in grief!
But at least that brought that old Fleur back again - the good and kind, and gentle one. And it was so romantic to see that she cares!
And that poor, poor Darius... oh dear, he's so head over heels with Fleur! Wonder how it will all turn out...

Admirable scrolling adventure (as I like to call it) in word and image! Must be a lot of work too - but that only ads up to the satisfaction of creating it I reckon. With kind regards from the Low Country.

Well, murky it is lol, not sure if Rathe did not just decide to kill himself the easy way and have it over with by attacking Arnbjorn, but seems not to be, maybe there is hope for Fleur and Rathe, maybe not, I wonder if she will ever get over that blaming him for not saving her when she felt he should have. As for the boy Darius, think he still may be a problem, he only saved Rathe to look good in front of Fleur, he may wait but sure he will be doing his best to make Rathe look like the bad guy while he does lol...Great story and shots hon, enjoy your break

You're spot on in your reflections. I think there was a bit of a death wish driving Rathe to anger Arnbjorn so much. But maybe that act might be the first step to him and Fleur reconciling. Even I'm not sure yet.

And as for Darius... well. I won't say anymore about him.

Okay this was one of my favorites. I tend to have a low emotional tolerance for soap opera emotions - they get under my skin to much. Perhaps because I wish people would just admit they love each other and stop playing all the games :p

So I liked this one as it had some good ole combat and fighting and I always like a good fight scene, especially with a werewolf. It was also nice to see Fleur isn't all bad and that maybe she still has a heart, no matter how burned and shriveled, inside of her. It was good to see some real emotion from her for a change.

Although part of me was wondering if maybe it would have been better to end the tale and let Rathe die, he has been through so much - way more than Fleur IMO - that death would be a relief to him. I was almost expecting it and was surprised I was almost hoping for it.

Course that would mean no more great stories so that would totally suck :p

As for Darius ... mixed feelings still. He did save Rathe ... but hard to say if it was a totally selfish act like he told his father or if that was an act to appease his father and he cares enough about Fleur to have done it for her sake (i.e. if you truly love someone let them go. If they don't come back to you then you hunt them down and kill them ... wait that doesn't sound right ... oh year if they love you then they will stay with you).

Oh wolf, so funny "if you truly love someone let them go. If they don't come back to you then you hunt them down and kill them" I too think that is the saying , one I know anyway lol

'Fleur still has a heart, no matter how burned and shrivelled' - cracked me up!!

And how could you hope for Rathe's death? Shame on you!! I've got so much more torment in store for him! (Joke, I've decided to ease up on the poor bloke for a while). Besides, he can't go and die while Regan's still running around out there.

I have mixed feelings about Darius too and that's all I'll say on the matter.

Seriously, WGD, thanks so much for all of your passionate comments. Makes me grin like a loon when I read them in the morning over coffee. Really appreciate that someone gets so 'into' this little tale of mine!

Darius did learn quite clearly not to surprise Rathe especially in the state he was in, spinning around with his blades gleaming, his eyes fierce, that voice a low growl. Seems all that did happen around him did suddenly lash out as he mentioned his time with Astrid to Abjorn, fighting through the mans strikes enough to wake his savage side, fury robbing him of all control of that form, luckily fleur was there with fiery spell to push him away though not before leaving Rathe with great wounds. Was a surprising to see Darius been the one to fight for his life with that spell though knowing he cared about Fleur I know why he did it, seems he has a better heart than his father who seems to think it is weakness. Funny that it took Rathe nearly dying to show Fleur that she truly did not want him to be gone, a nice touch of hope after all that anger and mixed emotions, beautifully done, Jess ^^

Thanks dear; I knew your poet soul would love the irony that it was nearly losing Rathe forever that made Fleur realise how much she needs him.
