Skyrim

The Armoury in Clockwork Castle gradually fills up with interesting objects as the player completes quests in Skyrim. I usually refer to this as the "museum system". People occasionally ask me for a list of these items and the events that trigger them, so I thought I'd write an article on it.

These may be considered spoilers, so be sure you're okay with that before reading any further.

Most of the items that appear as part of the museum system are presented as replicas of the typically unique, only-one-of-its-kind items they represent, as this made more sense to me. And to address a related frequently asked question; unique items (e.g. Daedric artefacts) that are also weapons or armour are not represented in the museum system because they can be displayed on the normal mounts/mannequins in the Armoury, like any other weapon/piece of armour.

All objects (barring certain things like faction banners) have accompanying plaques that explain the objects and what events prompted them. I won't reproduce all that text - just list the objects and which quests/events triggered them.

Objects in the museum system appear in two main areas; the Armoury Hall (with the staircase) and the "Museum Area" around behind the staircase on the ground floor. Additionally there's a small secret vault adjoining the museum area. (It's behind the "fake" wardrobe.)

For some reason the Haafingar and Pale thane shields aren’t being displayed even though I’m thane in those regions? Is completing the Cival War necessary for this because I know for Eastmarch that is the case but I don’t plan to do the Cival war for a loooong time.

It just checks if certain quest stages have been completed when you enter the Armoury. I've noted down what you said so that I can have a look to see if I need to tweak which stages these shields check for, once I get a chance to do an update.

Now that I've finally released WARS and PEACE, I'm hoping to get to that in the next few months sometime. (It's most likely only going to be the SSE version of Clockwork that gets updated, though.)

What actually causes the items to appear? I have a character who, using the Live Another Life mod, started on Solstheim, and now that I've gone back after starting Dragonborn, the lantern hasn't shown up. I have another character who I've done most of the game with, and several items that should have been in the museum were missing when I got around to playing Clockwork. Any ideas as to why?

Each item or set of items has an xmarker as an enable parent, and the xmarker has a script attached that runs when you enter the Armoury cell, checking to see if a particular stage of a particular quest has been done. If so, the xmarker is enabled (along with its child item/s).

I did my best with selecting appropriate quests and quest stages to check, but some of the quests can be pretty complex and I certainly don't know all their inner workings inside and out. Maybe some can be completed in a way that wouldn't set the stage I'm checking? Maybe other mods could change which stages are set, too.

And maybe I just straight-up checked the wrong stage in some cases, and no-one's noticed/reported it? That's less likely considering how long the mod's been out and how many people have played it, but it's still possible.

If you'd like to make a bug report about it - listing the items that haven't shown up when you believe they should - I can have a look at them when I eventually get time to do an update. As much information as possible would be great; including how you completed the related quests and any mods you're running that may affect those quests.

Ah, that explains at least a few of them. For some reason, my game crashes when I enter one of the main hold cities (which one changes with each character, but it's consistent within said character)
On the one with multiple items missing, Riften was the bugged city, so I had to use setstage to skip through a lot of Thieves Guild quests. If the museum checks if a quest stage has been done, I might have accidentally skipped over the required stages.
I'll check exactly what's missing when I next get a chance.

Try Unofficial Skyrim City Patch Reawakened.  It fixes a lot of problems in both Riften and Whiterun (the two crashiest cities due to the amount of resources they load all at once, and various glitches in them).

Does anyone have a picture of a fully completed treasure room. I use a positioner mod to put down artifacts from other mods and i want to know what spaces are safe depending on the quests i know i’ll do at that given playthrough. Thanks in advance!

Oh, I probably only have it checking for the relevant quest stage in the main quest, rather than that OR the stage in the Dawnguard quest-line. I've made a note of it in my big list of things to have a look at when I eventually get time to do an update.

No quick fix for it in the meantime though, sorry.

This is a great system idea; since most display ideas need you to "sacrifice" your items to decorate your house, you can't use them, which is kinda redundant in game. I salute your ingenious idea.
