There's not really a single "rule" to explain how I changed (or didn't change) bachelorette lines to acknowledge that they're in a gay relationship. Generally, I just tried to capture the characters' voices as accurately as I could. That might sound like I made some significant changes, but in most cases, these were the things I considered just to change... one or two lines of dialogue:
- Clorica's notably the only bachelorette who unflinchingly returns an "I love you too!" if Frey confesses to her in vanilla. You could argue about what she means by "love", in that context, but like... this is the lesbian mod. If you read that exchange (and Clorica's other "high relationship" dialogue) in a gay way, it's really passive and casual, like she isn't concerned with her sexuality at all. That being the case, she'll never really bring explicit attention to the fact that she's dating another girl. It's chill.
- Dolce won't really address it, either. It strikes me as the type of thing she'd deal with on her own, if she had any reservations about it. Plus, she has Pico, whose "rivalry" with the player is turned up a notch. I felt like Dolce "leaving her" to be with another girl was almost more brutal than just having to deal with Lest.
- Forte's... Forte, so her vanilla dialogue towards Frey is already a little less romantic than most characters. On top of that, she's also the only girl (I think?) to explicitly say she prefers men, if confessed to as a girl. Not a lot to work with, though I did throw in a new line that leans into the "princess and her knight" angle, because it's cute and calls back to one of Kiel's dialogues.
- Margaret has some pretty brazenly gay dialogue in the vanilla game. She doesn't shy away from saying, in no uncertain terms, that she finds Forte attractive. She can also be a wildly self-conscious person. Following those threads of logic, with this mod she's the most likely to explicitly acknowledge the homosexual situation she's found herself in.
- Xiao Pai mentions in vanilla (after having his child!) that Lest is too girly to be her usual type, and since it provides a unique perspective from the other bachelorettes, I've leaned into that a little bit. She's not really into women, generally speaking. The player is the exception to the rule.
RF4S changed Illuminata's nickname from "Ellie" to "Lumie". I think it's a good change, but it was made pretty hastily. Newlywed Mode dialogue still says Ellie, and there's one instance where Amber says "I spy an Lumie!" because nothing was changed aside from the name itself. I've fixed all that.
Speaking of Amber, I dialed back her Beach Day dialogue because I found it pretty uncomfortable, even by... Amber standards. The rest of her dialogue is unchanged (outside of the normal gender corrections), I only rewrote that one exchange because I got tired of reading it.
Leon's kinda infamous homophobia towards Lest is, obviously, completely rewritten for Frey. The new exchanges can definitely still be interpreted as him being
gently homophobic, because frankly, I don't really think it's out of character for him to be working through some shitty ideas. That guy's old as hell. He won't threaten a hate crime anymore, though.
