   Does this also replace the npc John hat through chapters 2-6 or only the playable John hat?

      you can only get the gambler hat during a couple of missions during the epilogue 1 by getting it to fall off Johns head when he wears it, however if you did not do this you can just get a trainer, wear the hat, and drop it.
